MONDAY'S NOTES

MONDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Brother Rice 13 Fenwick 10

Sean Davis recorded 4 goals and both Matt Stelnicki and Steve McGinnis scored 3 times to lead the Crusaders to a 13-10 victory over Fenwick. The win puts Brother Rice in control of their own destiny in the race for the Catholic League's regular season title.

 

St Viator 16 DeLaSalle 9

Robert Bansfield scored 4 goals and Eric Primdahl and John Koehler each added 3 scores in the Lions' 16-9 win over DeLaSalle on Monday. Ed Soler also scored 2 times in the victory for St Viator, who earned its' first Catholic League win of 2010.

 

York 12 Morton 8

Marc Krolikiewicz scored 4 times and both Ben Kostecki and Mike Rosati added 2 scores apiece in the Dukes' 12-8 win over Morton in the West Suburban Conference contest. The win was the first of the season for the Dukes, who improved to 1-3.

 

Morgan Park 14 Juarez 11

Zach Wenner tallied 5 scores and Kenneth Dillard added 4 scores to lead Morgan Park past Juarez 14-11. Josue Hernandez scored 8 times in the loss for the Eagles.

 

Bremen 13 St Rita 8

Peter Dryan recorded 7 goals in Bremen's 13-8 nonconference victory over St Rita.

 

Loyola 10 St Patrick 9

Steve Freedman connected on a lob shot from four-meters out to put Loyola ahead of St Patrick with 4:32 remaining, and the Ramblers defense held the Shamrocks scoreless for the rest of the game to hold on for a 10-9 win in Catholic League play on Monday evening. TJ Considine scored 4 goals to lead the Loyola offense, while Freedman, Conor Murphy, and Connery Brennan each scored 2 times in the victory. Peter Blume led the Shamrocks with 3 goals, including the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter for head coach Marty Gibson's squad.


GIRLS

Mundelein 9 Stevenson 7

Evelyn Kurzac totaled 4 goals and Alexis Jones scored 3 times as Mundelein defeated Stevenson 9-7 on Monday night. Amy Klink and Sarah Honda each scored once in the win, while goalie Emily Tylka recorded 9 saves for the Mustangs. Karen Lowry scored 3 goals and Jessica Rozemberg added 2 scores in the loss for the Patriots. Patriots' goalie Lisa Michalowski also made 8 saves in the loss.

 

Naperville Central 15 Hinsdale Central 1

Tori Davis scored 4 goals, Abbey Kerth added 3 scores, and Claire Fleming and Robyn Stanley both scored 2 times as the Redhawks defeated Hinsdale Central 15-1. Central backup goalie Julia Campbell recorded 11 saves in the win.

 

Loyola 14 Resurrection 7

Maeve O'Connor scored 6 goals as the Ramblers improved to 6-2 after knocking off Resurrection 14-7.

 

Morgan Park 9 Juarez 4

Jelena Bates scored 5 times and Janelle Wenner totaled 3 goals and 6 steals in the Lady Mustangs' 9-4 win over Juarez.

 

 

MONDAY'S GAME PREVIEWS

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#3 Fenwick at #4 Brother Rice

The regular season title in the Catholic League could be on the line tonight as #3 Fenwick travels to Chicago to take on #4 Brother Rice on Monday evening. The Crusaders remain undefeated after winning three games at the Dan Lynch Tournament and earning a hard-fought draw with Lyons. Meanwhile, the Friars will look to bounce back after falling to #1 Oak Park 16-10 on Saturday. Both teams enter the contest with undefeated records in the MCAC.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#17 St Patrick at #12 Loyola - Both teams have their sights set on a trip to state in 2010; who will get the key Catholic League win?

 

#20 Naperville North at Fremd - The Huskies travel to Fremd in an always-interesting nonconference affair.

 

#7 Latin at Hinsdale Central - The Red Devils look to build off the momentum of winning their own tournament on Saturday, while the Romans have gotten off to a solid 5-1 start this season.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#14 Mundelein at #9 Stevenson

One of the state's oldest rivalries continues on Monday night in Lincolnshire when Mundelein and Stevenson square off in North Suburban Conference action. Both teams enter the game with 3-1 records and will look to strike the first blow in what could be a preview of the sectional finals later this year.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Hinsdale Central at #2 Naperville Central - The Redhawks look to remain undefeated against the Red Devils in nonconference play.

 

Marian at #1 St Ignatius - Marian nearly won the Bremen Tournament on Saturday, while the top-ranked Wolfpack are on a roll after winning the Lockport Tournament over the weekend.
