TOURNAMENT RECAP (March 23)

 

Balanced Effort Helps Patriots Win Lyons Tournament
Stevenson received major contributions from a large cast of players as they dethroned the hosts to win the Lyons Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Brittany Gartenberg scored 10 goals and Becky Callen made 29 saves to lead the Patriots past Evanston, Neuqua Valley, and Lyons. Allison Treveto (8 goals), Melissa Gartenberg (6 goals), and Alex Kanaris (5 goals) also made significant offensive contributions, while Jenna Oliver played standout defense for a team that finished in third place in last year's event. The Lions held off Mundelein and cruised past Waubonsie Valley to finish in second with a 2-1 mark, while Mundelein got past Neuqua Valley 15-6 to claim third place. Evanston earned their first win by beating Waubonsie Valley in the fifth-place game.

Stevenson 14 Neuqua Valley 1

Alex Kanaris and Allison Treveto both scored 3 goals and Brittany Gartenberg and Laura Larsen each put in 2 scores as Stevenson knocked off Neuqua Valley 14-1. Becky Callen made 9 saves in the win, while Alexa Kotlyar, Jordyn Landau, Melissa Gartenberg, and Sara Ploch each scored once for the Patriots.

 

Stevenson 13 Evanston 6

Brittany Gartenberg registered 5 goals and Becky Callen stopped 10 shots in Stevenson's 13-6 triumph over Evanston. Alex Kanaris, Allison Travetto, and Melissa Gartenberg each scored 2 times and both Bridget Wynn and Laura Larsen scored once for the victors.

 

Stevenson 11 Lyons 4 (1st place)

Allison Travetto, Brittany Gartenberg, and Melissa Gartenberg each scored 3 goals and Jenna Oliver and Laura Larsen both put in one score as the Patriots won the Lyons Tournament by beating the hosts 11-4. Oliver also totaled 7 steals and 4 assists and goalie Becky Callen made 8 saves in the winning effort.
