LINCOLN-WAY TOURNAMENT

The annual Lincoln-Way Tournament gets underway on Thursday night in two locations (LWE & LWN) with eight teams playing one opening round game each followed by separate consolation and semifinal round games. Thursday night's results will setup Saturday's championship round which will be played exclusively at Lincoln-Way East. Lincoln-Way Central beat the hosts 7-5 in last year's title game, but the wide-open field that also includes Andrew, Lockport, LWE, LWN, LWW, R-B and Richards will all have their sights set on winning the 2016 edition of the event.

Nathan Bawolek scored 5 goals, Sam Lilly notched 3 scores and Garrett Allamian made 6 saves as the North Stars defeated rivals STC East 12-7 on Thursday night. John Quinn added 2 goals while Zach Smith and Jack Williams each scored once in the win. Andrew Roberge led the Saints' offense with 4 scores.

Brother Rice 8 Stagg 6

The Crusaders went on the road to earn an 8-6 victory over Stagg. Stats for the victors were unavailable. Lucas Smiarowski led the Chargers with 4 goals and Tommy Witek dished out 3 assists in the loss.

 

Curie 13 Morgan Park 10

Oscar Hernandez tallied 7 scores to lead the Condors past Morgan Park 13-10 on Thursday. Christian Cooper netted 7 scores in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Oak Park 17 Waubonsie Valley 5

Thomas Wolfe registered 4 scores and Dan Franklin scored 3 times as the Huskies earned a 17-5 victory over Waubonsie Valley. Aidan Cosby, Aidan Wade, Lawrence Cozzi and Zach Kayser each scored 2 times in the winning effort.

Cailey Davern and Kim Bernhard each scored 4 goals while Erin Kay made 8 saves in the Knights' 14-4 win over Richards. Erin Muellerschoen netted 2 goals and Sam Schletz scored once for the victors.

 

Lincoln-Way North 18 Riverside-Brookfield 1

Cassidy Degraff totaled 6 goals and 4 assists while the trio of Caitlin Nelson, Jess Larson and Julia Porco each netted 2 scores as the Phoenix beat the Bulldogs 18-1 on Thursday. Degraff also led the defensive effort with 8 steals as North advanced to the event's semifinal round.

 

Lincoln-Way East 9 Andrew 1

Claire Connors did not allow a goal in three periods of play as the Griffins advanced to the semifinal round of their own event after beating Andrew 9-1.

 

Andrew 11 Lockport 10

Cailey Pietrzyk notched 4 scores, both Alexys Knight and Lauren Herald scored 2 times and Olivia Kasper  made 5 saves as the T-Bolts edged Lockport 11-10 on Thursday. Bailey Murphy, Jessica Gomez and Sarah Rodgers each added one goal in the win for Andrew.

 

Lincoln-Way North 16 Lincoln-Way Central 9

Cassidy Degraff scored 6 goals, Julia Porco scored 4 times and Jess Larson netted 3 goals to help the Phoenix earn a 16-9 win over LWC. Paige Ruffner, Reis Parkinson and Sarah Jackson each added one goal in the win for North. Cailey Davern scored 3 goals, both Erin Muellerschoen and Maddie Clark put in 2 scores and Kimmie Bernhard and Nikki Howe each tallied one goal in the loss for the Knights.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

STC North 6 STC East 4

Sarah Gibson scored 3 goals and Brittany Veto led the defense with 9 steals as STC North got past STC East 6-4 on Thursday. Emmy Feddor, Hannah Springer and Monica Guyett each scored once and Claire Rich made 5 saves in the win.

 

York 8 Waubonsie Valley 5

Carli York and Grace Achepohl both registered 3 scores while both Ailie Orzak and Mary Phelps scored once in the Dukes' 8-5 triumph over Waubonsie Valley.
