TOURNAMENT RECAP (March 9)

 

Barrington Stays Perfect After Winning Stevenson Tournament
The Fillies snuck past the host Patriots 7-6 in the day's opening match and went on to earn victories over both Wheeling and Whitney Young to win the Stevenson Tournament on Saturday morning. The Patriots responded by earning convincing wins over the Dolphins and Wildcats to finish 2-1 and in second place. In the battle for third place, Whitney Young goalie Nya Wilkins scored the game-winning goal from her own net in the second overtime period to give the Dolphins a 6-5 win. Wheeling finished lost their first two games by margins of one and three before succumbing to Stevenson 14-2 to end the day winless.


Saturday's Game Recaps

Barrington 7 Stevenson 6

Sam Gavars scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation as Barrington upended the hosts 7-6 in the tournament opener. Gavars and Catherine Byron each scored 2 times in the Fillies' win, while Grace Buenrostro, Kelly Meckert, and Lisa Danhauer each chipped in with one goal apiece.

 

Whitney Young 6 Wheeling 5 (OT)

Nya Wilkins' scored from her own end in the closing seconds of overtime after making a save to lift the Dolphins to a 6-5 win over Wheeling on Saturday. Audrey Anderson sent the game to overtime with a goal late in the fourth quarter before Wilkins (2 goals, 13 saves, 6 assists) provided the heroics. Anderson and Jessie Cronin each added 2 goals in the win for Whitney Young. Theresa Godlewski tallied 3 scores and Kat Dobrowski and Rachel Ropski each netted one goal in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Stevenson 16 Whitney Young 4

The Patriots bounced back from their earlier loss to Barrington by knocking off Whitney Young 16-4. In the loss, Jessie Cronin recorded all 4 goals for the Dolphins.

 

Barrington 13 Wheeling 10

Kelly Meckert poured in 5 goals and Catherine Byron netted 4 scores as the Fillies beat Wheeling 13-10. Grace Buenrostro and Sam Gavars also scored 2 times in the winning effort for Barrington. In the loss, Kat Dobrowski registered 5 goals, Rachel Ropski notched 3 scores, and goalie Keara Myatt made 9 saves.

 

Barrington 14 Whitney Young 5

Catherine Byron recorded 3 goals and Kelly Meckert, Lisa Danhauer, Reagan Dassati, and Sam Gavars each punched in 2 scores as the Fillies ended the day with a 14-5 decision over Whitney Young. Jessica Beal netted 2 goals and Jessie Cronin, Melanie Balanon, and Nora Murphy each added one score in the losing effort for the Dolphins.

 

Stevenson 14 Wheeling 2

The hosts earned their second straight win of the event, toppling Wheeling 14-2 on Saturday afternoon. Kat Dobrowski and Theresa Godlewski each scored once in the loss for the Wildcats.
