BOYS TOURNAMENT REPORTS


 

GAME RECAPS (Saturday, March 24)
 

BOYS

Homewood-Flossmoor 11 Mundelein 2

Zach Peterson notched 4 scores and Kevin Kuchta netted 3 goals to lead the Vikings to an 11-2 win over visiting Mundelein on Saturday. Jakoby McClellan made 11 saves in the victory for H-F. Jason Begrowicz and Jason Rehor both scored once in the losing effort for the Mustangs.

 

Stevenson Tournament

Libertyville 8 Ladue 6

Tommy Keefe recorded 6 goals as the Wildcats led from start to finish in an 8-6 victory over Ladue.

 

Parkway West 12 Oak Park 10

Thomas Lyonfields registered 6 goals as Missouri-based Parkway West outscored OPRF 9-4 in the second half to earn a 12-10 victory on Saturday morning. The Huskies led 6-4 at the break but failed to score in the third period and trailed 9-6 just seven minutes later. Troy Williams scored 7 goals in the loss for Oak Park.

 

MICDS 8 Stevenson 3

The visitors outscored the hosts 5-1 in the second half to pull out an 8-3 victory on Saturday. Sean Gallagher scored 2 times and helped limit the Patriots to just three scores on the other end. Kyle Plotsky scored 2 goals and Robbie O'Brien made 14 saves in the loss for Stevenson.

 

Parkway West 14 Libertyville 7

Thomas Lyonfields scored 4 goals to lead Parkway West to a convincing 14-7 win over Libertyville.

 

Oak Park 15 MICDS 12

Troy Williams registered 6 goals to help OPRF knock off MICDS 15-12 on Saturday.

 

Stevenson 8 Ladue 3

Alex Shkiler recorded 4 goals, Mitchell Sokolsky tallied 2 scores, and Robbie O'Brien stopped 13 shots as Stevenson defeated Ladue 8-3 to conclude the Patriots' own tournament.

 

York Tournament

Lyons 13 York 2

Joe Shannon notched 5 scores in LT's 13-2 win over the hosts to ensure the Lions a spot in the third-place game on Saturday.

 

Loyola 16 Latin 9

Brendan Hulseman scored 5 goals to lead the Ramblers to a 16-9 victory over Latin. Jacob Himmel tallied 5 scores in the loss for the Romans.

 

York 16 Lincoln-Way Central 5

Alex Waldherr recorded 6 goals and Patrick McKenna added 5 scores to lift the Dukes to a 16-5 win over LWC and a fifth-place finish at their own tournament.

 

Lyons 15 Latin 6

Josh Hirt tallied 3 scores to help lift the Lions past the Romans 15-6 in the third-place game of the York Tournament on Saturday.

 

SLUH 11 Loyola 10

Missouri's #1 team won the York Tournament by beating Loyola 11-10 on Saturday to finish the event with a perfect (3-0) record. Brendan Hulseman, Charlie Dowdle, Jordan Hodur, and Tim Netzel each scored 2 times in the loss for the Ramblers.

 

GIRLS

Lyons Captures Own Tournament Title

Lyons Township went 3-0 with wins over Lockport, Mundelein, and Stevenson on Saturday to claim their own tournament title. Lizzy Kosin totaled 14 goals and Kirby Kaptur recorded 12 scores in three games, as the Lions improved to 10-0 on the season. Kaptur led the team on the defensive end with 11 steals, while goalie Tegan Moore allowed an average of just 5 goals per game at the event.

 

Mundelein and rival Stevenson both went 2-1 on the day, with the Mustangs losing the title game to the hosts by an 18-6 margin and Stevenson claiming third place.


 

GAME PREVIEWS (Saturday, March 24)
 

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

York Tournament

The Dukes host an intriguing six-team tournament that begins on Friday evening; Missouri's top-ranked SLUH takes on the hosts in Friday's opener, while #2 Lyons, #4 Loyola, #5 Latin, and LWC all get things started on Friday night.

 

Update: SLUH advanced to the title game with a last-second winner against LT and a blowout victory over York; Loyola and Latin will meet at 9:00am to determine the other title game challenger.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Stevenson Tournament

The Patriots' I-55 Showdown gets underway with three Illinois teams squaring up against three visiting squads from Missouri. Libertyville starts the festivities against MICDS, Oak Park takes on Ladue, and the hosts face Parkway West on the event's opening night. All three MO teams are currently ranked in the top five of their respective state.

 

Update: IL teams went 2-1 on Friday night at the Stevenson Tournament, with the hosts winning in the last minute and Oak Park edging Ladue by a goal. MICDS defeated Libertyville in MO's only victory.

 

GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Lyons Tournament

The Lions play host to Evanston, Lockport, Stevenson, and Waubonsie Valley in a ten-game tournament on Saturday. The early game between the sixth-ranked Patriots and the seventh-ranked hosts should get things started with a bang in La Grange at 9:00am.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Mundelein at York

The Lady Dukes play host to Mundelein immediately following the boys' tournament at the same location. The Mustangs look to get back on track after an early week loss to New Trier, while the Lady Dukes will also seek redemption after a 14-13 overtime loss to Loyola on Thursday.
