TOURNAMENT REPORT

 

Preview
The Wolves will try to repeat as tournament champions of their own event when they host an eight-team event that kicks off on Friday afternoon. Niles West plays in a group that contains Maine West, St Rita, and Waubonsie Valley; the other group pits DLS, Metea Valley, Stagg and Von Steuben against one another. The championship round decides the fate of all eight teams and begins on Saturday afternoon.

Max Yusim scored 6 goals, including four in the opening quarter, as the Wolves jumped out to a 9-1 lead en route to a 13-3 victory over Maine West. Matt Lefler totaled 8 saves and 6 steals while Yusim drew 4 ejections for the hosts.

 

St Rita 11 Waubonsie Valley 10

Matt Lopez netted 5 goals and Eric Johnson recorded 4 scores to lead the Mustangs to an 11-10 comeback win over Waubonsie Valley. Cameron Steele totaled 8 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

DLS 15 Metea Valley 2

Roberto Rodriguez recorded 5 goals to lead the Meteors to a 15-2 victory over Metea Valley.

 

Niles West 17 Waubonsie Valley 7

Max Yusim scored 4 goals and drew 5 ejections and Matt Lefler blocked 11 shots and forced 7 turnovers to lead the Wolves to a 17-7 win over Waubonsie Valley. Miguel Paloma also scored 3 times in the win for the hosts. Cameron Steele led the Warriors with 6 goals in the losing effort.

 

Stagg 15 Metea Valley 7

Nick Amendola totaled 6 goals to lead the Chargers past Metea Valley 15-7.

 

DLS 25 Von Steuben 11

Roberto Rodriguez scored 5 goals to lead the Meteors past Von Steuben 25-11 on Saturday.

 

Waubonsie Valley 13 Maine West 13

Cameron Steele scored 8 times for Waubonsie Valley while Brendan Atwood tallied 6 scores for West as the two squads finished in a 13-13 tie on Saturday morning.

 

Stagg 16 Von Steuben 7

Nick Amendola totaled 3 goals as a balanced Chargers' attack secured a 16-7 victory over Von Steuben.

 

St Rita 6 Niles West 5

Eric Johnson scored 2 goals and four other players added one score as the Mustangs held off Niles West 6-5 to advance to the event's title game.

 

Metea Valley 17 Von Steuben 11

Keegan Reilly registered 9 goals to lead the Mustangs past Von Steuben 17-11.

 

Stagg 12 DLS 8

Nick Amendola scored 8 goals to help Stagg advance to the event's title game after a 12-8 victory over DLS. Roberto Rodriguez notched 3 scores in the loss for the Meteors.

 

Maine West 12 Von Steuben 5

Anthony Alonzi, Brendan Atwood and Richard Sevic each scored 2 goals to help lift the Warriors over Von in the seventh-place game of the Niles West Tournament.

 

Waubonsie Valley 17 Metea Valley 13

Cameron Steele amassed 12 goals for the Warriors as they knocked off Metea Valley 17-13 to win the fifth-place game of the event. Keegan Reilly scored 7 times in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Niles West 11 DLS 10

Adrian Durakovic and Max Yusim each scored fourth-quarter goals after goalie Matt Lefler tied the game at the end of the third quarter as Niles West completed an amazing comeback to beat DLS 11-10 in the third place game of the Wolves' own tournament. The hosts trailed 7-1 after the opening period but battled back to claim the victory. Durakovic tallied 5 goals, Yusim scored 3 times, and Lefler blocked 12 shots, including a penalty shot, in the win. Roberto Rodriguez scored 5 goals in the loss for the Meteors.

 

St Rita 12 Stagg 11 (OT)

Eric Johnson scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime to send St Rita past Stagg 12-11 in the title game of the Niles West Tournament on Saturday. Johnson totaled 5 goals to lead the Mustangs to the win.
