GAME RECAPS (Saturday, March 31)
 

BOYS

NILES WEST TOURNAMENT

Niles West 11 Stagg 10

Ryan Miller scored 4 goals, Kyle Patt added 2 scores, and Nick Opfer made 10 saves as Niles West beat Stagg 11-10 in a shootout finish to win their own tournament on Saturday. The Wolves also beat St Rita in the final round to finish the weekend with a 4-0 record. The Chargers finished the event in second place, as Spencer Krivanec led the team with 12 goals and Jihad Ramadan made 50 saves over the four-game set.

 

SCHAUMBURG TOURNAMENT

STC East 9 Schaumburg 9

The Saints outscored the Saxons 6-2 in the second half and scored the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter as the two teams finished in a 9-9 draw on Saturday morning. The Saxons led 7-3 at halftime and took a one-goal lead into the final period before settling for the tie. Shaun Seuschek put in 4 goals for the Saints, while Brandon Vasquez, Marty Kwiatkowski, and Matt McMullen each scored 2 times for Schaumburg.

 

Wheeling 10 Libertyville 6

Austin Ihde recorded 4 goals and Mike Boom tallied 2 scores to help the Wildcats top Libertyville 10-6. Adam King and Alex Wang each scored 2 times in the losing effort for Libertyville.

 

Mundelein 9 Lafayette 2

Jason Rehor registered 4 scores as Mundelein knocked off Lafayette 9-2 on Saturday.

 

Lindbergh 10 Libertyville 4

Amer Jasarevic scored 3 times to lead Lindbergh to their fourth win of the event, a 10-4 triumph over Libertyville. Matt King led the Wildcats with 2 goals in the losing effort.

 

STC East 10 Wheeling 8

Mitch Phelps, Shaun Seuschek, and Stephen Mason each registered 3 scores in the Saints' 10-8 victory over Wheeling on Saturday. East used a 4-0 run in the third quarter to pull ahead of the Wildcats after trailing by a goal at halftime. Austin Ihde score 4 goals in the loss for Wheeling.

 

York 8 Lafayette 7

Ziggy Matsas recorded 3 goals and both Alex Waldherr and Wil Hubert connected with 2 scores to help the Dukes beat Lafayette 8-7. Waldherr tallied the game-winner for York with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, while goalie Keith Pierzchala made two key saves in the last two minutes to seal the win for the Dukes.

 

Schaumburg 13 Mundelein 5

Randy Carr tallied 5 scores and LJ Peterson added 3 scores in the Saxons' 13-5 win over Mundelein. Matt Marcotte and Jason Rehor each scored 2 times in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

GIRLS

Loyola 10 Sandburg 8

Marta Considine scored 5 goals and Evan Swenson added 3 scores as the Ramblers earned a 10-8 home victory over Sandburg on Saturday afternoon. Meredith O'Brien made 7 saves in the winning effort for Loyola. Jamie Pappanastos scored 7 of the 8 goals for the Eagles in the loss.

 

Maine East 15 Resurrection 1

Eliza Mazgaj and Maria Protic both scored 4 goals to help the Blue Demons beat Resurrection 15-1 on Saturday in a nonconference fixture. Joanna Gwizdz and Media Husejnovic each scored 3 times for East, while Isabelle Trier made 17 saves and allowed just one goal in the win.

 

LINCOLN-WAY EAST TOURNAMENT

Phoenix Finish 3-0 To Win LWE Tournament

LWN rallied in the second half to beat LWE 10-7 to win the tournament title. In other games, Andrew beat Schaumburg 12-9 for third place, LWW topped LWC 10-8 in the fifth place game, and R-B beat Richards 12-10 for seventh place on Saturday morning. Here are the game recaps:

 

Lincoln-Way West 10 Lincoln-Way Central 8

Emily Gallagher and Gena Tanquilut each scored 3 goals and Michelle Fairbairn added 2 scores to help LWW claim fifth place at the LWE Tournament with a 10-8 victory over LWC. Becca Beeson also made 10 saves in the win for the Warriors.

 

Andrew 12 Schaumburg 9

Rachel Fus scored 3 goals and Abbey Wrobel, AnnaMarie Lettiere, and Eva Fuger each scored 2 times to help Andrew outlast Schaumburg 12-9 in the third place game. The T-Bolts built a 9-2 halftime lead en route to the three-goal win. Ashley Johnson and Kristy Bessler each put in 3 goals in the losing effort for the Saxons.

 

Lincoln-Way North 10 Lincoln-Way East 7

LWN came from behind to beat the hosts 10-7 to claim the LWE Tournament title on Saturday. Sam Klosak recorded 3 goals in the victory for the Phoenix. Tricia Paul made 21 saves and Zoe McCabe tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Griffins.

MATCH OF THE DAY

Schaumburg Tournament

The Saxons' eight-team tournament heats up on Saturday morning with more crossover games, picking up where all eight teams left off last night. The hosts continue to welcome Lafayette and Lindbergh from Missouri while also including Libertyville, Mundelein, STC East, Wheeling, and York from Illinois.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Niles West Tournament

The Niles West Tournament continues on Saturday morning with two preliminary games, followed by the championship round. Niles West and Stagg are the early favorites to win the event, while St Rita and Von Steuben go head-to-head in the day's first game to determine the other final round contender.

 

GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Lincoln-Way East Tournament

The LWE Tournament rolls on with the championship round on Saturday afternoon. Lincoln-Way East will face Lincoln-Way North in the title game at 1:00pm, while Schaumburg faces Andrew in a battle for third place at noon.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Sandburg at Loyola

The Eagles (7-3) head to Wilmette for a tough nonconference fixture against a full-strength Loyola (7-6) squad; both teams are seeking their eighth win of the season on Saturday afternoon.
