GAME PREVIEWS (Friday, April 10)

 

 

 

DESMET TOURNAMENT

Stevenson and St Viator join DLS and Fenwick at the DeSmet Tournament in Missouri to take on some of the Show-Me-State's best teams in a weekend extravaganza. Each team will play twice on Friday in order to determine their position in Saturday's championship round. The Friars beat SLUH to win the event last year while DLS placed sixth out of twelve teams in 2014.

 

 

LYONS TOURNAMENT

Lyons hosts a six-team event that gets underway on Friday night with a three-game slate; the results of the first night of action help setup the championship round, which begins on Saturday morning. Loyola got past St Ignatius to win the event last year while Oak Park outlasted the hosts in overtime to claim third place in 2014.

FEATURED EVENT

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

The 11-team, 22-game Fenwick Tournament features several of the state's best teams and could serve as a potential preview of next month's state tournament. Six of the state's top ten squads are in action, with a list that includes #1 Naperville North, #2 Stevenson, #3 St Ignatius, #4 Fenwick, #6 Lyons and #9 NC. #13 New Trier, #14 Loyola, #15 McAuley and #29 H-F also join the fray in an event that begins with four opening-round games on Thursday, followed by five more games on Friday and six contests on Saturday morning before the championship round begins. The hosts won the event in 2014 after beating McAuley and St Ignatius in the first-place group.

George Lundgren recorded 7 goals to lead the Lions past Niles West 18-4.

 

Loyola 13 York 4

John Pasquesi notched 4 scores, Jack Schermerhorn tallied 3 scores and Walter Haracz made 13 saves in the Ramblers' 13-4 triumph over York. Chris Jovanovich also scored 2 times in the winning effort.

 

St Ignatius 20 Oak Park 8

Billy Barth totaled 6 goals, Shane Hughes scored 5 times and Gunnar Glaab put in 3 scores as St Ignatius defeated Oak Park 20-8. Lawrence Cozzi and Zach Kayser each totaled 2 goals in the loss for OPRF.

 

 

DESMET TOURNAMENT

Stevenson 16 Chaminade 7

Cris Tomasetti recorded 5 goals and Collin Kapecki put in 4 scores as the Patriots opened their account at the DeSmet Tournament with a 16-7 win over Chaminade. Andrew Shashin and Alex Kapecki each added 2 goals in the win for Stevenson.

 

Fenwick 11 DeSmet 2

Colin Daly, Jack Mahoney, Mickey McGuire, Noah Groll and Ryan Masi each registered 2 scores and Will Skowron made 10 saves in Fenwick's 11-2 victory over DeSmet.

 

Stevenson 12 MICDS 1

Andrew Shashin notched 4 scores and Cris Tomasetti scored 2 goals in the Patriots' 12-1 win over MICDS.

 

Fenwick 25 Kirkwood 2

Colin Daly, Danny Farmer, Jack Mahoney, Mickey McGuire, Noah Groll and Ryan Masi all scored 3 goals and Chez Daggs put in 2 scores as the Friars rolled to a 25-2 victory over Kirkwood. Will Skowron blocked 7 shots in the win for Fenwick.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Homewood-Flossmoor 10 Lockport 9

Mason Reidel scored the game-winning goal after an ejection in the final minute to send the Vikings past Lockport 10-9 on Friday. Haden Santefort scored 4 goals, Reidel put in 3 scores and Luke Santefort made 20 saves in the winning effort. Joey Tomczuk led the Porters with 3 scores, Zach Elias netted 2 scores and Pat Melaniphy blocked 11 shots in the loss.

 

Maine West 13 Latin 5

Brendan Atwood scored 6 goals and Tony Connor tallied 4 scores in the Warriors' 13-5 win over Latin.

The fourth-ranked Friars claimed a 13-8 victory over Lyons in their tournament-opening game on Friday in Oak Park.

 

Mother McAuley 8 Homewood-Flossmoor 1

The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and added to their advantage early in the second half to beat H-F 8-1 on Friday. Stats for McAuley coming soon. Emily Mathews scored the lone goal in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Naperville North 14 Mundelein 2

The Huskies grabbed a 14-2 victory over Mundelein in the tournament-opening game for both squads. Katie Horn and Taylor Stoner both scored 3 goals, Alli Horn and Elle Matern both recorded 2 goals and Christina McBride made 8 stops in the win for the Huskies. Amber McClure, Meredith Conway and Olivia Eiken each added one score for the victors.

 

Fenwick 13 New Trier 7

The Friars moved on to the first place group of their own event after picking up their second victory of the night, a 13-7 decision over New Trier.

 

Naperville Central 13 Homewood-Flossmoor 3

The Redhawks evened out their tournament record after beating H-F 13-3 on Friday night. Kaela Codo put in 5 scores and Emily Rodgers scored 3 times for a Central team that built a 6-1 halftime lead en route to the victory. Emily Westlove led the defense with 5 steals and Sara Campbell made 9 saves in the win.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Barrington 10 Hersey 7

Mia Latimer totaled 6 goals, Andrea Potgieter put in 2 goals and Elizabeth Connors made 8 saves to help the Fillies knock off Hersey 10-7. Isabella Rosas and Nicole Runtz each added one score in the winning effort. Caleigh O'Neil registered 3 goals and Katie Lutz scored 2 times in the loss.

 

Conant 11 Wheeling 2

The Cougars avenged last season's MSL title game loss to Wheeling as they beat the Wildcats 11-2 on Friday night. Carmen Rosas scored 4 goals and drew 5 ejections while Maddy Demaret stopped 10 shots and made 4 steals in the win. The trio of Emily Weingart, Paulina Chowaniec and Sam Wooley each put in 2 scores while Rosas led the defense with 6 steals. Shannon Richards and Theresa Godlewski each scored once in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Lincoln-Way North 14 Lincoln-Way West 5

Cassidy Degraff recorded 7 goals, Julia Porco scored 3 times and Laura Wolf made 10 saves as Lincoln-Way North defeated Lincoln-Way West 14-5 on Friday night. Ailish Murphy, Ellie Brtis, Emma Henley and Sarah Jackson each scored once while Degraff led the defense with 6 steals in the win.
