GAME PREVIEWS (Friday, April 11)

 

 

 

DESMET TOURNAMENT

Fenwick and DeLaSalle both head to Missouri to take on some of the Show-Me-State's best teams; the Friars placed second at the event last season after losing an overtime thriller to SLUH, while DLS finished in tenth place in the twelve-team field. Both teams get underway on Friday night with two games, then return to action on Saturday morning for two more games that determines their championship round placement. Fenwick begins the action in a group with DeSmet and Mehlville, while the Meteors match up with Chaminade and SLUH in their opening-round group.

LYONS TOURNAMENT

Lyons hosts a six team event that includes five teams ranked in the top ten entering Week 5. The event gets underway on Friday night with a four-game slate; the hosts are in a group that consists of Loyola and York, while Oak Park, Stevenson and St Ignatius match up for a three-game set that will determine the championship round lineup on Saturday afternoon.

Mundelein plays host to Florida's Boone High School at 5:00pm in the first of five games for the visitors from the Sunshine State.

7:00pm - Boone (FL) vs #13 Loyola

Loyola travels to Stevenson High School to take on Orlando-based Boone High School on Friday night in a special feature at 7:00pm.

5:30pm - #34 Prospect at #23 Wheeling

Rivals square off with much more than bragging rights on the line on Friday as Prospect and Wheeling get together for an always-fierce MSL East contest that will make a big impact on the conference standings.

5:00pm - #12 Evanston at #2 St Ignatius

A hard-charging Evanston team heads to UIC to take on second-ranked St Ignatius in a battle of teams aiming for the top seed at next month's sectional at the same location.

LYONS TOURNAMENT

Loyola 11 York 1

Cameron Shewchuck tallied 3 scores and Jack Schermerhorn netted 2 goals in Loyola's 11-1 victory over York. Trevor Prince blocked 9 shots and allowed one goal in the winning effort for the Ramblers.

 

St Ignatius 10 Oak Park 8

The Wolfpack returned to action on Friday by beating Oak Park 10-8 at the Lyons Tournament. Billy Barth, Shane Hughes, and Tom Dowling each scored 3 goals and Gunnar Glaab put in one score in the win. Tym Zymon also stopped 10 shots and blocked a penalty shot in the closing seconds to secure the Wolfpack's victory. Mark Hallman scored 5 goals, Alex West scored 2 times, and Lee Werner added a goal in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Oak Park 9 Stevenson 8

Mark Hallman scored 3 goals and six other Huskies scored once (Alex West, James Kelly, Josh Gronwold, Kevin Perez, Lawrence Cozzi, Lee Werner) as Oak Park edged Stevenson 9-8 in the late game on Friday night in LaGrange.

Glenbrook South 9 Maine South 6

Peter Dales notched 4 scores, Brant Boczek added 2 goals, and Davis Hianik made 14 saves as the Titans got past Maine South 9-6 on Friday night. Makai DeNeve-Arnam registered 4 scores for the Hawks in the loss.

 

Lockport 13 Homewood-Flossmoor 6

Eric Johnson recorded 4 goals and the duo of Tyler Trench and Pay Melaniphy combined to block 15 shots in Lockport's 13-6 triumph over H-F. Jake Speechley, Matt Olinski, and Zach Elias each added 2 scores in the win for the Porters.

 

Stagg 18 Lincoln-Way East 8

Zack Amendola totaled 5 goals and Connor Kaufmann scored 3 times in the Chargers' 18-8 victory over LWE. Lane Holin stopped 14 shots and earned the win in his first start in goal for Stagg.

 

St Viator 13 Lake Forest 4

Keegan Finn registered 4 goals, Eric Sutton and Tommy Madaras each tallied 2 scores, and Frank Skorski totaled 8 saves and 3 assists in the Lions' 13-4 victory over Lake Forest.

Mundelein 10 Boone 7

Karrie Kozokar scored 4 goals and Emily Garcia tallied 3 scores as the Mustangs gave a cold welcome to Florida-based Boone by handing the visitors a 10-7 defeat. Anna Ward added 2 goals and Allie Boothe put in one score in the win for the hosts.

Marta Considine recorded 6 goals and Colleen Ahern made 11 saves in Loyola's 11-6 victory over Boone. Alana Dean, Claire Voss, Emily Barr, Ellen Garrity, and Julia Sajnaj each scored once in the win for the Ramblers.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Lake Forest 13 St Viator 10

The Scouts earned a 13-10 nonconference win over St Viator on Friday. In the loss, Bridget Hulsebosch, Chrissy Wimberly, and Laura Foss each totaled 3 scores and Julia Nelson added one goal for the Lions.

 

Lincoln-Way Central 10 Lockport 3

Liz Klock recorded 4 goals, Kristi Howe notched 3 scores, and Sabrina Miglorini made 11 saves as Central defeated Lockport 10-3. Kim Bernhard, Nikki Howe, and Michelle Dundek each tallied one score in the win for the Knights.

 

Lincoln-Way East 21 Stagg 4

Aimee Schaaf tallied 4 scores, Taryn Linke netted 3 goals, and Lauren VanderVelde contributed 2 scores as East knocked off Stagg 21-4. Brennah Hasty and the Griffins' defense held the Chargers scoreless for the entire first half en route to the win.

 

Meadows 18 Deerfield 5

Maggie Feikes and Sara Luedloff both scored 5 goals and Betsy Zanocco stopped 22 shots to help lift the Mustangs over Deerfield 18-5. Raven Holobud added 3 goals and Natalie Delporte scored 2 times in the win for RMHS. Katherine Rogers scored 5 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

St Ignatius 11 Evanston 5

Tammy Stelnicki scored 3 goals and the trio of Diana Fernandez, Maggie Maloney, and Stephania Lopez each scored 2 times as St Ignatius downed Evanston 11-5. Beca Martinez and Liv Evangelides each put in one goal in the win for the Wolfpack.

 

Wheeling 7 Prospect 5

Theresa Godlewski totaled 6 goals and Rachel Ropski led the defense with 6 steals as the Wildcats fended off Prospect 7-5 on Friday in a key MSL East contest. Emily Sowa also scored once in the winning effort.
