GAME PREVIEWS (Saturday, April 12)

 

 

DESMET TOURNAMENT

Fenwick and DeLaSalle both head to Missouri to take on some of the Show-Me-State's best teams; the Friars placed second at the event last season after losing an overtime thriller to SLUH, while DLS finished in tenth place in the twelve-team field. Both teams get underway on Friday night with two games, then return to action on Saturday morning for two more games that determines their championship round placement. Fenwick begins the action in a group with DeSmet and Mehlville, while the Meteors match up with Chaminade and SLUH in their opening-round group.

 

ELK GROVE TOURNAMENT

The Grenadiers host a six-team tournament on Saturday that features Andrew, Hoffman, Hersey, Maine East, and Maine South. The first six games determine the championship round schedule, with the first place game wrapping things up in the afternoon. Maine South edged Andrew for the title in last year's event.

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

The four team field at the Glenbrook South Tournament includes Conant, Hinsdale Central, and Lincoln-Way West. With the same four teams in attendance last season, the Red Devils edged Conant by one goal to win the event. Who will gain the upper-hand this time around in a six-game event?

 

LYONS TOURNAMENT

Lyons hosts a six team event that includes five teams ranked in the top ten entering Week 5. The event gets underway on Friday night with a four-game slate; the hosts are in a group that consists of Loyola and York, while Oak Park, Stevenson and St Ignatius match up for a three-game set that will determine the championship round lineup on Saturday afternoon.

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

The top-ranked Huskies welcome back the same five teams from last year's tournament; back in the mix for a nine-game event are Fremd, Sandburg, Schaumburg, Stagg, and STC North. The hosts beat Fremd in the title game of last year's proceedings and will be looking to do the same against a field that includes four Top 25 teams.

BARRINGTON TOURNAMENT

The Fillies host an area-based tournament that includes Lake Forest, Libertyville, and Vernon Hills in a six game event that kicks off on Saturday morning. The hosts will be looking to defend their title after ending last two year's with a 3-0 mark.

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

Hinsdale Central looks to defend their title at Glenbrook South on Saturday in a six-game tournament that also includes Conant, Glenbrook South, and Lincoln-Way West.

 

MAINE EAST TOURNAMENT

The Blue Demons welcome three other teams for a six-game event that begins on Saturday morning and includes the likes of Palatine, Prospect, and STC East.

 

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

The Patriots host a six-game event that includes Fremd, New Trier, and Orlando-based Boone beginning at 8:00am on Saturday.

DESMET TOURNAMENT

MICDS 6 DLS 5

Tommy Stupp scored 4 goals to lead MICDS past DLS in the day's first game of the DeSmet Tournament. The Meteors fell to 1-2 at the event with an afternoon game against Kirkwood on deck.

 

Fenwick 12 Lindbergh 3

The Friars are one win away from the championship game of the DeSmet Tournament after they defeated Lindbergh 12-3. Danny Farmer and Omar Calderon both scored 3 goals and Andrew Bertschy and Ryan Masi both tallied 2 scores in the win for Fenwick. DJ Perez and Will Skowron rounded out the scoring for the Friars with one goal each.

 

DLS 11 Kirkwood 10

Robert Rodriguez scored the game-winning goal in the closing stages of the Meteors 11-10 victory over Kirkwood, sending DLS to the fifth-place game at the DeSmet Tournament on Saturday.

 

Fenwick 9 Parkway West 6

The Friars outlasted Parkway West 9-6 to advance to the title game of the DeSmet Tournament; Danny Farmer tallied 4 goals, Omar Calderon scored 2 times, and Mike Hill made 8 saves in the winning effort. Andrew Bertschy, David Durkin, and Ryan Masi all scored once in the win for Fenwick.

 

Fenwick 13 SLUH 7

The Friars finally avenged losses from last season and last week by beating SLUH 13-7 on their own soil to win the DeSmet Tournament on Saturday night. Ryan Masi recorded 5 goals, Danny Farmer scored 3 times, and Mike Hill blocked 8 shots in the Fenwick win. Bailey Wendt, David Durkin, Omar Calderon and Will Skowron all chipped in with one score in the victory for the Friars.

 

 

ELK GROVE TOURNAMENT

Hersey 13 Maine South 9

Jack Carroll recorded 6 goals to help lift the Huskies over Maine South 13-9. Jimmy Gardiner registered 3 goals in the tournament-opening loss for the Hawks.

 

Andrew 19 Elk Grove 6

Andrew Wojdyla scored 4 times and Alex Gacek, Chuck Walters, and Eric Tamulonis each scored 3 goals in Andrew's 19-6 win over Elk Grove. Tim Yara also totaled 8 saves and 6 assists in the winning effort.

 

Hersey 10 Maine East 6

The Huskies advanced to the title game of the event with their second win of the day, a 10-6 victory over Maine East. Jack Carroll led the way with 6 goals for the winners. Krzysztof Maniewski tallied 3 goals in the loss for the Blue Demons.

 

Hoffman 12 Elk Grove 11

Alex Garibay and Jacob Pasaye both registered 3 goals as the Hawks beat Elk Grove 12-11 to claim their first win of the 2014 season.

 

Andrew 20 Hoffman 1

Broderic Garren and Mike Tamulonis each scored 4 times and goalies Tim Yara and Sean Reilly combined to make 6 saves and 6 steals in the T-Bolts 20-1 victory over Hoffman. Alex Batuello, Chuck Walters, Eric Tamulonis, and Jake Villasenor each scored 2 goals in the win an Andrew team heading to the title game of the event.

 

Andrew 9 Hersey 7

Alex Gacek scored 4 goals to help Andrew beat Hersey 9-7 as the T-Bolts walked away with their second tournament title of the 2014 season. Eriic Tamulonis and Dan Cavato each scored 2 times in the win while Tim Yara made 9 saves for the victors. Jack Carroll scored 5 goals in the loss for the Huskies.

 

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

Glenbrook South 11 Conant 8

Brant Boczek totaled 5 goals as the Titans' won their tournament-opener by getting past Conant 11-8. Jim Estep led the Cougars with 3 scores in the losing effort.

 

Hinsdale Central 8 Lincoln-Way West 7

Wade Kinney recorded 4 goals as the Red Devils edged LWW 8-7. Jake Carlson netted 4 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Glenbrook South 11 Hinsdale Central 5

Brant Boczek tallied 4 scores and both Peter Dales and Seamus Heneghan scored 3 times to help lift GBS over Hinsdale Central 11-5. Wade Kinney registered 4 goals in the loss for the Red Devils.

 

Conant 10 Lincoln-Way West 10

Connor Schmitz scored 3 goals for the Cougars while Jake Carlson netted 7 scores as Conant and LWW finished in a 10-10 draw on Saturday.

 

Conant 7 Hinsdale Central 6

Connor Schmitz led a balanced offensive attack with 2 goals in Conant's 7-6 win over Hinsdale Central. Wade Kinney notched 3 scores in the loss for the Red Devils.

 

Glenbrook South 12 Lincoln-Way West 11

Brat Boczek recorded 7 goals as the Titans won their own event after beating LWW 12-11 on Saturday night.  Kyle Karpluk tallied 4 scores in the loss for the Warriors.

 

 

LYONS TOURNAMENT

Loyola 8 Lyons 3

Cameron Shewchuck and George Finn each scored 2 goals and Trevor Prince made 10 saves as Loyola beat Lyons 8-3 to advance to the title game of the LT Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Andrew Hodur, Jack Nickele, Regan Murphy, and Tom Baker all scored once in the win for the Ramblers.

 

St Ignatius 13 Stevenson 7

Billy Barth scored 4 goals and Tym Zymon totaled 8 saves and 5 steals in the Wolfpack's 13-7 win over Stevenson. Gunnar Glaab, John Reyes, Shane Hughes, and Tom Dowling each added 2 scores for the victors, who advanced to the event's title game on Saturday night.

 

Oak Park 10 Lyons 9 (OT)

Mark Hallman scored 3 times and James Kelly, Lee Werner, and Robbie Wickes each added 2 goals as the Huskies outlasted Lyons in an overtime thriller 10-9 in the third-place game of the LT Tournament.

 

Loyola 10 St Ignatius 7

Cameron Shewchuck registered 7 goals and Trevor Prince blocked 13 shots as the Ramblers recovered from an early 2-0 deficit to beat St Ignatius 10-7. Regan Murphy added 2 goals and Matt Kearney also scored once in the win for Loyola. Shane Hughes tallied 3 scores and both Billy Barth and John Reyes put in 2 goals for the Wolfpack. Tym Zymon also made 12 saves in the loss for SICP.

 

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

Naperville North 15 Fremd 4

BD Chapman scored 3 goals to help the Huskies beat Fremd 15-4 in the tournament-opener on Saturday.

 

STC North 8 Stagg 7

Nick Traxler totaled 3 scores and both John Pretet and Tim Steele recorded 2 goals as the North Stars got past Stagg 8-7. Collin Bawolek made 7 saves and Raphael Jabbar added a goal in the win for STC North.

 

STC North 9 Schaumburg 5

John Pretet registered 5 goals and Collin Bawolek blocked 12 shots in the North Stars' 9-5 victory over Schaumburg. Chris Stanek, Nick Traxler, and Tim Steele each added one goal in the win for STC North.

 

Naperville North 9 Sandburg 4

Nolan Roberts recorded 7 goals to help the Huskies pull away from feisty Sandburg team as North earned a 9-4 win to advance to the title game of their own tournament. Sandburg took an early 2-1 lead, but the Huskies tied the game at 3-3 by halftime. Nolan Roberts scored twice in the third period and the North defense held the Eagles scoreless to take a 5-3 lead into the final period, where Roberts added 3 more goals to his tally. Drake McClure and Gianmarco Duin each added a goal in the win for North. Mitch Zieler scored 3 goals, Zach Roper scored once, and Sean McNicholas made 10 saves in the loss for the Eagles.

 

Sandburg 16 Stagg 12

Zach Roper totaled 8 goals, Ben Crnich tallied 3 scores, and both Constantino Pappas and Majd Ibrahim scored 2 times as the Eagles avenged a loss from earlier in the week by beating Stagg 16-12.

 

Naperville North 12 STC North 6

Nolan Roberts scored 5 times and Gianmarco Duin totaled 3 scores as the Huskies won their own event by beating STC North 12-6. Drake McClure added 2 goals and both Garrett Nash and Joe Tomashek scored once in the win for the hosts. John Pretet, Nick Traxler, and Ryan Helfers each scored once and Collin Bawolek made 10 saves in the loss for the North Stars.

Sam Gavars recorded 5 goals and Mia Latimer added 4 scores in Barrington's 10-8 victory over Vernon Hills. Maddi Burrell also made 9 saves and Andrea Potgieter tallied one score in the Fillies' win. Lauren Wood scored 3 times in the loss for the Cougars.

 

Libertyville 7 Lake Forest 5

Devika Joshi scored 4 goals to lead the Wildcats to a 7-5 win over Lake Forest. Clare Weiland registered 2 goals in the loss for the Scouts.

 

Libertyville 9 Barrington 8

Megan Derrig totaled 3 goals and both Devika Joshi and Sarah Durning notched 2 scores as the Wildcats edged Barrington 9-8 on Saturday afternoon. Sam Gavars scored 4 times, Mia Latimer netted 2 scores, and Maddi Burrell scored once from her own goal and made 7 saves in the narrow loss for the Fillies.

 

Vernon Hills 7 Lake Forest 3

Lisa Cheng registered 3 goals to help the Cougars beat Lake Forest 7-3. Clare Wieland netted 2 scores in the loss for the Scouts.

 

Libertyville 11 Vernon Hills 2

Megan Derrig and Sarah Durning each tallied 3 scores in the Wildcats' 11-2 win over Vernon Hills. Devika Joshi also scored 2 times in the winning effort for Libertyville.

 

Barrington 7 Lake Forest 5

Sam Gavars put in 3 scores as the Fillies held off Lake Forest 7-5 on Saturday afternoon. Zoe Winemaster tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Scouts.

 

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

Conant 9 Glenbrook South 1

Carmen Rosas scored 4 goals, Angie Skittone netted 2 scores, and Maddy Demaret made 8 saves to help Conant earn a 9-1 victory over GBS on Saturday morning. Claire Rosas, Kaitlyn Claffey, and Shannon Maloney each added one goal in the win for the Cougars. Meanwhile, Skittone and Sam Wooley led the defense with 5 steals apiece while Rosas totaled 4 steals. Samantha Wykurz tallied the lone goal for the hosts.

 

Lincoln-Way West 5 Hinsdale Central 4

Gena Tanquilut scored 2 goals to help lead the Warriors to a 5-4 victory over Hinsdale Central.

 

Hinsdale Central 8 Glenbrook South 5

Nina Relias scored 3 goals to lead the Red Devils past GBS 8-5. Dana Grad and Rachel Spector each put in 2 goals in the loss for the hosts.

 

Conant 11 Lincoln-Way West 7

Carmen Rosas recorded 5 goals, Angie Skittone notched 4 scores, and Maddy Demaret blocked 13 shots in Conant's 11-7 triumph over LWW. Claire Rosas and Sam Wooley each added a goal in the win for the Cougars. Sarah Suppes scored 4 times in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Conant 7 Hinsdale Central 2

Maddy Demaret made 9 saves, Carmen Rosas scored 4 goals, and Angie Skittone netted 3 scores as the Cougars won the GBS Tournament after beating Hinsdale Central 7-2. Rosas and Kaitlyn Claffey led the defense with 4 steals apiece in the tournament-winning victory.

 

Lincoln-Way West 9 Glenbrook South 5

Gena Tanquilut tallied 4 scores to lead the Warriors past GBS 9-5. Rema Abu Hashin scored 3 times in the loss for the Titans.

 

 

MAINE EAST TOURNAMENT

Palatine 7 Maine East 6

Rachel Chumbook recorded 5 goals and Kim Butler made 20 saves and scored once in Palatine's 7-6 win over Maine East. Caroline Wojtas also scored once in the win for the Pirates. Medina Husejnovic led the hosts with 4 scores while both Maria Protic and Sandra Kielinska scored once in the narrow loss.

 

Palatine 6 Prospect 1

Caroline Wojtas scored 4 times, Rachel Chumbook tallied 2 scores, and Kim Butler denied 13 shots as the Pirates beat Prospect 6-1 on Saturday. Niki Neumann scored the lone goal in the loss for the Knights.

 

Palatine 5 STC East 4

Rachel Chumbook put in 4 goals, Caroline Wojtas scored once, and Tess O'Brien made 14 saves to help Palatine beat STC East 5-4 to win the Maine East Tournament on Saturday. Kaitlyn Johnsen led the Saints with 3 goals in the losing effort.

 

 

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

Stevenson 15 Fremd 6

Allison Travetto poured in 9 goals to lead the Patriots to a 15-6 victory over Fremd. Annika Hotchkiss and Ashley Oliver each added 2 goals and both Joanie Newland and Melissa Gartenberg scored once for the winners. Emma Hoffman tallied 3 scores, Tami Carlson put in 2 goals, and Samantha Barry scored once in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Boone 4 New Trier 2

The visitors from Orlando won their first game in three tries in Illinois as Boone fended off New Trier 4-2 on Saturday morning. Dakota Lewis scored 2 goals to lead the offense for the victors. Lauren Barrett and Shannon Kent each scored once in the loss for the Trevians.

 

Stevenson 9 New Trier 2

Allison Travetto recorded 3 goals and both Ashley Oliver and Melissa Gartenberg scored 2 times as the Patriots beat New Trier 9-2. Annika Hotchkiss and Joanie Newland each added one goal apiece in the win for the hosts. Maria Breen and Stephanie Jodloman both scored once in the loss for the Trevians.

 

Boone 14 Fremd 11

Mackenzie Mock scored 6 goals to lead Boone to a 14-11 win over Fremd. Samantha Barry put in 3 goals and both Emma Hoffman and Tami Carlson scored 2 times in the losing effort.

 

New Trier 13 Fremd 4

Lauren Barrett totaled 5 goals and Jacqueline Glattard, Maria Breen, Natalie Goldman, and Shannon Kent each scored 2 times as the Trevians knocked off Fremd 13-4 on Saturday. Tami Carlson scored 2 goals in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Stevenson 17 Boone 9

Allison Travetto scored 6 goals and the trio of Annika Hotchkiss, Melissa Gartenberg, and Jordan Landau each scored 2 times as Stevenson beat Boone 17-9 to finish their own tournament with a 3-0 record.
