NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

The preliminary round is complete at the 'Best of the West' Tournament in Naperville with the hosts (NC), the other hosts (NN) and Mundelein advancing to play for the event's title on Saturday.

 

The Redhawks got past Buffalo Grove and Hinsdale Central by double-digit margins, the Huskies did the same against Lake Forest and Glenbrook North, and Mundelein followed up a 4-4 draw with Glenbrook South by edging LWC in the nightcap to move to the title round.

 

GBN, HC, and LWC will play in the second group for fourth and BG, GBS and Lake Forest will do battle for seventh place on Saturday.

 

UPDATE: The championship round is now complete as Naperville Central earned wins over Mundelein and Naperville North to win the event. Additional updates will be coming soon.

 

 

SANDBURG TOURNAMENT

Conant 7 Sandburg 6

Connor Schmitz totaled 5 goals as the Cougars knocked off Sandburg 7-6 on Saturday morning.

 

STC North 9 Prospect 6

Nathan Bawolek netted 3 goals while Chris Stanek and Jack Williams each scored 2 goals in the North Stars' 9-6 win over Prospect. Garrett Allamian made 7 saves in the win for North.

 

Andrew 11 Lane 4

Brett Hofer scored 4 times, Matt Bobber recorded 3 goals and Dan Cavato totaled 2 goals and 7 steals in the T-Bolts 11-4 win over Lane. Colin Hovorka and Mike Brennan combined to stop 17 shots in the win.

 

STC North 12 Lane 8

John Pretet recorded 4 goals and the trio of Chris Stanek, John Quinn and Jon Gallee each put in 2 goals as the North Stars defeated Lane 12-8. Garrett Allamian also stopped 8 shots in the STCN victory.

 

UPDATE: Andrew and Conant both went 3-0 in the preliminary round and will play for the event's title on Saturday night.

 

UPDATE II: Conant held off Andrew 9-7 in the title game of the event as Cougars' goalie Jacob Lawson was named the tournament MVP for his performance. The hosts also beat STC North 9-6 in the third place game.

 

 

WAUBONSIE VALLEY TOURNAMENT

Waubonsie Valley 14 Hoffman 4

Cameron Steele registered 4 goals and both Ian Reyes and Wyatt Tiscareno scored 3 times as the hosts beat Hoffman 14-4. Cedrick Chan also scored 2 goals while Jon McWhirter and Spencer Weiland each put in one score in the victory. Jacob Pasaye led the Hawks with 3 goals in the loss.

 

STC East 11 Latin 1

Dustin Differding totaled 3 goals to help lead the Saints past Latin 11-1. Charles Young and Jack Sweeney each tallied 2 scores as well for the victors. Max Falb scored the lone goal in the loss for the Romans.

 

Hoffman 9 Highland Park 8

Joey Smiley tallied 4 goals and Dirgham Nubani netted 3 scores as the Hawks beat Highland Park 9-8 on Saturday. Jacob Pasaye also scored 2 goals in the winning effort. Danny Hoffman scored 6 times in the loss for the Giants.

 

Whitney Young 11 STC East 5

Duncan McDonald tallied 6 goals to lead the Dolphins to an 11-5 victory over STC East. Dustin Differding and Sean Sweeney both recorded 2 goals and Max Retkowski scored once in the loss for East.

 

Waubonsie Valley 11 Highland Park 1

Cameron Steele scored 5 times and Jon McWhirter added 2 goals in the Warriors' 11-1 triumph over HP.

 

Whitney Young 15 Latin 1

Duncan McDonald scored 6 times and Julien Encasa scored 4 goals in the Dolphins' 15-1 win over Latin.

 

STC East 13 Hoffman 5

Dustin Differding recorded 5 goals and Jack Sweeney scored 4 times as the Saints beat Hoffman 13-5 in the third-place game on Saturday. Ethan Braham netted 2 goals and Kyle Chapko and Sean Sweeney each put in one score in the win.

 

Whitney Young 11 Waubonsie Valley 10

Duncan McDonald registered 6 goals and Julien Escasa scored 2 times as the Dolphins held off the hosts 11-10 to win the Waubonsie Valley Tournament. Cameron Steele scored 5 goals and Ian Reyes netted 3 scores in the loss for the Warriors.

ELK GROVE TOURNAMENT

Meadows 10 Elk Grove 3

Sara Luedloff scored 5 times and Betsy Zanocco stopped 17 shots in the Mustangs' 10-3 win over the hosts. Erin Pletch and Lizzie Hardt each added 2 goals and Anna Frantom scored once in the victory.

 

Meadows 7 Maine East 7

Anna Frantom and Sara Luedloff each scored 3 goals, Emily Walters netted 2 goals and Betsy Zanocco made 19 saves as the Mustangs finished in a 7-7 tie with Maine East.

 

Meadows 14 Deerfield 3

Sara Luedloff totaled 6 goals and Betsy Zanocco made 7 saves as Meadows topped Deerfield 14-3. Erin Pletch and Jessie Ligenza each tallied 2 scores as well for the winners.

 

Meadows 9 Libertyville 7

Sara Luedloff recorded 3 goals and both Erin Pletch and Emily Walters scored 2 times as the Mustangs upended Libertyville 9-7 to win the Elk Grove Tournament. Betsy Zanocco made 19 saves in the win.

 

 

JENISON TOURNAMENT

Naperville Central 8 Grandville 7

Kaela Codo scored her second consecutive game-winning goal to send the Redhawks past Grandville 8-7 on Saturday morning. Codo, who scored 5 goals in the contest, buried the winning goal late in the fourth quarter and Central goaltender Faith Vandercar blocked two breakaway chances in the final two minutes to secure the victory. Emily Rodgers led the defense with 8 steals and also scored 2 goals and Beth Ryan made a key steal late in the game to ensure the Redhawks would improve to 3-0 so far in Michigan.

 

Naperville Central 15 Hudsonville 14

Kaela Codo recorded 7 goals, Anne Marie Gunn and Emily Rodgers both registered 2 scores and Faith Vandercar made 8 saves as the Redhawks edged Hudsonville 15-14 to win the Jenison Tournament with a 4-0 record.

 

 

PALATINE TOURNAMENT

Palatine 9 Prospect 2

Caroline Wojtas recorded 5 goals and Tess O'Brien made 14 saves as the Pirates opened their own event with a 9-2 victory over Prospect. Mathilde Mogensen added 2 goals while both Caitlin McHugh and Kristen Anderson scored once in the win. Ann Fulk and Gracie Dix each scored once while Lauren Broz blocked 12 shots in the loss for the Knights.

 

STC North 11 Wheeling 8

Katie Difiglio netted 6 goals, Monica Guyett scored 3 times and Katie Quinn tallied 2 scores in the North Stars' 11-8 win over Wheeling. Claire Rich made 5 saves in the winning effort. Theresa Godlewski scored 6 times and Argelia Diaz scored 2 goals in the loss for the Wildcats. Elizabeth Wargo stopped 8 shots in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Lincoln-Way East 9 Prospect 7

Zoe Spada converted a late penalty shot and added an insurance goal in the final minute while Abby Olivieri also scored a key fourth quarter goal to lead the Griffins past Prospect 9-7. Spada, Nicole McCabe and Teresa Digiovanni each scored 2 goals while Brennah Hasty stopped 6 shots in the win. Olivieri, Keara Flaherty and Julia Esparza also scored once in the win. Niki Neumann totaled 4 goals, Gracie Dix scored 3 times and Lauren Broz made 13 saves in the loss for the Knights.

 

Bremen 10 Wheeling 7

Jillian Schultz recored 4 goals, Brittany Lira tallied 3 scores and Gretchen Behrens scored 2 times as the Red Jaguars outlasted Wheeling 10-7. Theresa Godlewski recorded 5 goals and both Julianna Isayeva and Jenna Pink each scored once in the loss. Elizabeth Wargo also made 7 saves in the loss.

 

Palatine 9 Lincoln-Way East 5

Caroline Wojtas poured in 8 goals and Tess O'Brien made 10 saves and allowed one goal as Palatine beat LWE 9-5. Kristen Anderson also scored once in the win. Teresa Digiovanni scored 2 goals, the trio of Abby Olivieri, Nicole McCabe and Zoe Spada each scored once in the losing effort.

 

Bremen 7 STC North 6

Jillian Schultz and Leah Wood each recorded 3 goals to help the Red Jaguars edge STC North 7-6 to move on to the event's title game. Ashley Siedschlag added one score and Adriana Muniz made 5 saves in the win. Katie Difiglio netted 4 goals and Katie Quinn scored 2 times in the loss for the North Stars.

 

Wheeling 5 Prospect 4

Theresa Godlewski recorded 4 goals, Julianna Isayeva netted one goal and Jenna Pink blocked 7 shots in the Wildcats' 5-4 win over Prospect. Lauren Broz made 8 saves while Ann Fulk, Gracie Dix, Niki Neumann and Michelle Vuong each tallied one goal in the losing effort.

 

STC North 11 Lincoln-Way East 8

Katie Quinn tallied 3 scores and both Brittany Veto and Cassy Hauserman scored 2 times to help lead the North Stars past LWE 11-8 for third place at the Palatine Tournament. Keara Flaherty tallied 4 scores and Nicole McCabe and Zoe Spada each netted 2 goals in the loss.

 

Bremen 4 Palatine 3

Brittany Lira, Elizabeth Minnich, Gretchen Behrens and Leah Wood each scored one goal as Bremen beat Palatine 4-3 to win the event. Caroline Wojtas, Kristin Anderson and Mathilde Mogensen each scored one goal while Tess O'Brien made 14 saves in the loss.

 

Lira connected on the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter almost immediately after the Pirates had tied the game on Mogensen's goal in order to secure the win for the Red Jaguars.

 

 

ST IGNATIUS TOURNAMENT

Evanston 10 Loyola 1

Honore Collins recorded 4 goals and Olivia Everhart made 11 saves as Evanston downed Loyola 10-1 on Saturday morning at UIC. Edie Block and Millie Rosen each added 2 goals while Becca Schumm and Lexa Deamont both scored once in the winning effort.

 

Lyons 15 Loyola 7

Caroline Walsh scored 6 goals and Julia Cohen dished out 4 assists and drew 3 ejections as the Lions beat Loyola 15-7. Cohen, Annika Moore and Megan Kotil each scored 2 times as well in the victory.

 

Evanston 5 Lyons 5

The Wildkits and Lions finished in a 5-5 draw at the St Ignatius Tournament on Saturday. Caroline Walsh scored 3 goals and both Emma Hirt and Julia Cohen scored once in the draw. Stats for Evanston coming soon.

 

 

VERNON HILLS TOURNAMENT

Lake Forest 14 Vernon Hills 5

Grace Donahue scored 4 goals and Abby Warren notched 3 scores to lead the Scouts past Vernon Hills 14-5. Catherine Pompe and Madeleine Pompe each added 2 goals in the winning effort. Lauren Wood and Priscilla Yim each tallied 2 scores in the loss for the hosts.

 

Lake Forest 12 Hoffman 4

Abby Warren registered 5 goals and both Allison Majka and Sophia Striedinger scored 2 times to help the Scouts beat Hoffman 12-4.

 

Lake Forest 12 Maine West 11

Abby Warren totaled 7 goals and both Allison Majka and Grace Donahue scored 2 times as the Scouts got past Maine West 21-11 to win the Vernon Hills Tournament. Emily Morrison and Holly Wasicak each tallied 3 goals in the loss.

 

 

YORK TOURNAMENT

Naperville North 15 Lane 1

Jilian Eiken recorded 6 goals and Katie Horn scored 4 times in the Huskies' 15-1 win over Lane. Hannah Wessel and Taylor Stoner each added 2 goals and Danielle Pugh scored once in the winning effort.

 

Naperville North 12 Barrington 0

Jilian Eiken and Katie Horn both scored 4 times and Tina McBride earned a shutout as the Huskies blanked Barrington 12-0. Eley Matern added 2 goals while both Lauren Liberio and Taylor Stoner scored once in the victory.

 

Naperville North 15 York 1

Taylor Stoner poured in 9 goals and Jilian Eiken netted 3 scores as the Huskies topped the hosts 15-1 to claim the York Tournament title. Katie Horn added 2 scores and Danielle Pugh scored once in the win.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Fremd 8 Maine South 5

Becca Rutkowski recorded 3 goals and both Emma Hoffman and Nicole Warnstedt notched 2 scores as the Vikings knocked off Maine South 8-5. Emma Jeronimus also made 12 saves in the win for Fremd. Kalin Bender scored 3 times and Sammy Zaug netted 2 goals in the losing effort.
