MATCH OF THE DAY I

5:00pm - #5 Sandburg at #11 H-F

The rivalry between the Eagles and Vikings continues in the first of two games that could help determine the SouthWest Suburban Blue conference title. The Vikings hope to keep their momentum going after last Thursday's win over Lockport, while the Eagles are looking to bounce back from Tuesday's loss to the Porters.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY II

6:00pm - #23 Mundelein at #8 Stevenson

This early-April matchup between rivals Mundelein and Stevenson could prove vital in the North Suburban Conference title race; the teams square off in Lincolnshire at 6:00pm on Thursday.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY III

6:00pm - #7 Naperville Central at #3 Naperville North

The Huskies are the favorites in the Naperville area in 2013, but this test with Naperville Central could be a barometer of how they will fare at sectionals against a Redhawks' team hoping to return to prominence.

TOURNAMENT TO WATCH

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

The 12-team, 24-game Fenwick Tournament features several of the state's best teams. Nine of the state's top ten teams are in action, with a list that includes Fenwick, Loyola, Lyons, Mother McAuley, Mundelein, NC, New Trier, St Ignatius, and Stevenson. Florida's St Thomas Aquinas is also in the mix, while Evanston and H-F round out the impressive field. The event begins on Thursday with six preliminary round games, with six more games to follow on Friday night. Saturday starts with the consolation round, is followed by a pair of semifinal round games, and ends with a championship round that could be considered a preview of next month's state tournament.:

MATCH OF THE DAY I

Sandburg 10 H-F 5

Kevin Tunney and Zach Roper both scored 3 goals and Tomas Serrano added 2 scores in the Eagles' 10-5 triumph over H-F. Sean McNicholas also made 9 saves in the SWSC Blue division win for Sandburg. Kevin Kuchta tallied 3 scores and Jakobi McClellan made 8 saves in the losing effort for the Vikings.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY II

Stevenson 17 Mundelein 9

Mitchell Sokolsky scored 9 times to lead Stevenson past Mundelein 17-9 on Thursday night. Jason Rehor recorded 7 goals as the Mustangs got to within four in the third quarter before the Patriots pulled away to earn the North Suburban Conference victory.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY III

Naperville North 9 Naperville Central 7

Eric Curia scored 4 goals and both Gianmarco Duin and Nolan Roberts notched 2 scores as the Huskies held off Naperville Central 9-7 on Thursday. Luke Landiak also added a key goal in the win for North, as they pulled away from the Redhawks in the second half after the teams went to halftime tied at 4-4.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Barrington 13 Buffalo Grove 8

Chase Lesniak and Sam Miseyka each tallied 3 goals and Theo Papadimitriou blocked 17 shots as the Broncos topped Buffalo Grove 13-8. Evan O'Connor and Nick Cogswell each added 2 scores in the win for Barrington. Anisse Chakar scored 3 times and both KC Lotzer and Zach Augustyn netted 2 goals in the loss for the Bison.

 

Conant 13 Wheeling 7

Jon Burke and Connor Schmitz both scored 5 times and Aly Ahmed made 12 saves as Conant defeated Wheeling 13-7. Kyle Bradberry also notched 2 scores in the winning effort for the Cougars.

 

Fremd 20 Meadows 6

JP French and Matt Emerson both recorded 5 goals and Dylan Assman scored 2 times in Fremd's 20-6 win over Meadows on Thursday.

 

Hoffman 9 Prospect 5

Sang Han registered 3 scores, Luke Iehl netted 2 goals, and Logan Gizel made 14 saves as the Hawks defeated Prospect 9-5. Liam Hansen and Nathanael Ginnodo both scored 2 times in the loss.

 

Lockport 15 R-B 8

Dan Oldendorf tallied 5 goals and Jake Jogodsinski put in 3 goals in Lockport's 15-8 win over R-B.

 

Lincoln-Way West 12 Andrew 11

Kurt Butterfield recorded 8 goals, including the game-winner, and Mark Carroll blocked 9 shots to help the Warriors edge Andrew 12-11. Chuck Walters totaled 3 goals and Andrew Wojdyla, Eric Tamulonis, and Nick Brancato all scored 2 goals in the loss for the T-Bolts.

 

Maine South 12 St Viator 10

Ryan Pattulo tallied 4 scores and both Makai DeNeve-Arnam and Phil Wachowski netted 2 goals as Maine South fended off St Viator 12-10. Tommy Madras recorded 3 goals, Eric Sutton and Keegan Finn each put in 2 goals, and Frank Skorski made 12 saves in the loss for the Lions.

 

Neuqua Valley 14 STC North 7

Will Russell netted 6 goals, Alex Thoele added 4 scores, and John Hedderman made 21 saves in Neuqua's 14-7 victory over STC North. Simon Shatinsky added 2 goals and Brian DePuy's defensive effort helped the Wildcats limit the North Stars offensive attack. Kyle Gannon and Justin Simmonds both scored 2 times and Collin Bawolek made 11 saves in the loss for North.

 

Palatine 17 Hersey 2

Christian Kalfas scored 5 goals and Alex Brons tallied 4 scores in the Pirates' 17-2 victory over Hersey. Kristian Kalev added 3 goals and Peter Blackham made 15 saves in the win for Palatine.

 

Schaumburg 9 Elk Grove 7

James Birriel and LJ Peterson both put in 4 goals to help Schaumburg top Elk Grove 9-7 on Thursday. Kyle Phillips led the Grenadiers with 5 scores in the loss.

St Ignatius 14 St Thomas 4

Tammy Stelnicki scored 4 goals and Rebecca Martinez added 3 scores as St Ignatius rolled to an 14-4 win over St Thomas. Becky Insalaco also netted 2 goals in the tournament-opening win for the Wolfpack.

 

New Trier 7 Lyons 5

Kelsey Willian scored 3 goals to help lead New Trier past Lyons 7-5 on Thursday. The Trevians responded to an early 2-1 deficit with a 5-2 run to emerge with the victory. Blair Hopwood scored 3 times in the loss for the Lions.

 

St Ignatius 24 Stevenson 11

Becky Insalaco poured in 8 goals as the Wolfpack raced out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 24-11 victory over Stevenson. Rebecca Martinez put in 5 goals and Maggie Maloney, Tammy Stelnicki, and Theresa Cariola each added 2 goals in the win for SICP. Ashley Oliver and Melissa Gartenberg both scored 3 times and Allison Travetto and Laura Larsen each tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Patriots.

 

Mundelein 12 Naperville Central 9

Karrie Kozokar recorded 6 goals to lead the Mustangs to a 12-9 victory over Naperville Central. Kristina Altuve, Kaela Codo, and Michelle Spaits each scored 2 times in the loss for the Redhawks.

 

Mundelein 9 Loyola 6

The Mustangs advanced to the semifinal round after beating Loyola 9-6 on Thursday, their second victory of the night. Evan Swenson scored 4 goals, Marta Considine tallied 2 scores, and Colleen Ahern stopped 9 shots in the loss for the Ramblers.

Andrew 13 Lincoln-Way West 2

Courtney Carter and Megan Hofer both registered 3 scores and Anna Tamulonis blocked 15 shots as the T-Bolts defeated LWW 13-2. Alison Sifuentes and Rachel Fus each added 2 scores in the win for Andrew. Emily Gallagher and Tori Tibiero were the two scorers for the Warriors in the loss.

 

Barrington 16 Buffalo Grove 7

Catherine Byron and Lisa Danhauer combined to score 11 goals in Barrington's 16-7 victory over Buffalo Grove. Kelly Meckert also scored 2 times in the Fillies' win. Bridget Whited led the Bison with 3 scores in the loss.

 

Elk Grove 9 Schaumburg 2

Alexa Zajac tallied 4 scores and Kathryn Noonan notched 3 goals in as Elk Grove earned a 9-2 win over Schaumburg. Ashley Johnson and Britney Vasquez each scored once and Jessica Sumsky blocked 9 shots in the Saxons' loss.

 

Oak Park 13 Hinsdale South 2

Katie Appell totaled 9 goals and Elizabeth Williams put in 2 scores in Oak Park's 13-2 win over Hinsdale South in West Suburban Conference action. Zoe Erickson also made 11 saves in the Huskies' win.

 

Palatine 5 Hersey 2

Rachel Chumbook recorded 3 goals and Kim Butler saved 18 shots as Palatine fended off Hersey 5-2 on Thursday. Emily Morgan and Caitlin McHugh each added one score in the Pirates win. Karolina Szymaszek tallied both scores in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Riverside-Brookfield 18 Argo 1

Lucia Adami scored 3 goals to help lift R-B over Argo 18-1 on Thursday afternoon.

 

Sandburg 8 H-F 3

Kaitlyn Randich notched 3 scores and Alona King made 14 saves as Sandburg jumped out to a 5-1 lead en route to an 8-3 win over H-F. Claire Duncan, Maddy Morris, and Megan Dunlavy each tallied one goal in the loss for the Vikings.

 

STC North 12 Neuqua Valley 7

Maddie Jones netted 4 goals and Nicole Guyett and Sarah Stern each tallied 3 scores as the North Stars emerged with a 12-7 win over Neuqua Valley. Hannah Horsfall made 9 saves in the win, while Jones and Laura Gonsalves combined to force 12 turnovers for North.

 

Wheeling 12 Conant 4

Kat Doborowski recorded 6 goals and Theresa Godlewski added 3 scores in Wheeling's 12-4 victory over Conant. Emily Sowa put in 2 scores and Rachel Ropski added one goal in the Wildcats' win. Angie Skittone scored all 4 goals and Jenn Soukup and Maddy Demaret combined to make 10 saves for the Cougars.
