GAME PREVIEWS (Saturday, April 26)

 

 

 

FEATURED EVENT

GLENBROOK SOUTH TOURNAMENT

The GBS Tournament is a nine-team, eighteen-game event that gets underway on Friday. #1 Naperville North will look to defend their title against the Titans, Evanston, Hersey, Lake Forest, Libertyville, New Trier, Palatine, and Prospect in an event that should feature several close contests based on last year's results. The top-ranked Huskies beat GBS and New Trier in the first-place bracket last season to win the event, while the Trevians beat the hosts for second place.

 

OTHER KEY EVENTS

BROTHER RICE TOURNAMENT

The annual Brother Tournament is always a highly competitive event; this year should be no exception as teams like Curie, DLS, Hinsdale Central, Latin, Lockport, Sandburg and Waubonsie join the hosts for a major sixteen-game event that follows a championship format. The Porters will be looking to defend their title, as they edged Hinsdale Central by a goal to win last year's event.

 

NEUQUA VALLEY TOURNAMENT

The Wildcats' Co-Ed Tourney is an all-day event that features Bradley, Maine South, and Metea playing six games beginning at 8:35am and alternating between boys' and girls' contests.

 

MUNDELEIN TOURNAMENT

The Mustangs host their second tournament of the year with Conant, H-F, and Naperville Central coming in for a six-game tourney that kicks off on Saturday morning.

 

NILES WEST TOURNAMENT

The Wolves play host to Oak Park, St Patrick, and Wheeling in a six-game event that gets underway on Saturday morning.

FEATURED EVENT

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

The battle between Illinois and Michigan gets underway on Friday as #1 Fenwick, the third-ranked hosts,  #7 Mother McAuley and #8 Mundelein square off with #1 Okemos, #8 Rockford and EGR. Expectations are high for the home-state teams, as they finished with a 15-1 record against the Michigan teams at last year's event. The event culminates with games between Fenwick-Mundelein and Stevenson-McAuley.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

The Redhawks' four team event begins on Friday night, alternating between Varsity and JV-level contests. The hosts are joined by Evanston, Jenison, and Sandburg for two Varsity games on Friday and four more beginning on Saturday morning.

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

The Huskies host a six-team, nine-game event beginning on Saturday morning; the hosts will be joined by Hinsdale Central, Lockport, Meadows, Oak Park, and Whitney Young. OPRF downed the hosts 7-6 to win the event last season with a 3-1 record.

 

NEUQUA VALLEY TOURNAMENT

The Wildcats' Co-Ed Tourney is an all-day event that features Bradley, Maine South, and Metea Valley as they play six games beginning at 7:45am.

BROTHER RICE TOURNAMENT

Lockport 21 Latin 5

Jake Speechley scored 4 goals while Jake Jogodzinski and Matt Olinski tallied 3 scores as Lockport topped Latin 21-5 on Saturday morning. Kris Ackerman, Tommy Boland, Steve Howell, and Mike Hayes each put in 2 goals and Pat Melaniphy and Tyler Trench combined to make 8 saves for the Porters. Eric Johnson, Logan Nootbar, and Zach Elias also scored one goal each in the winning effort.

 

Sandburg 10 Brother Rice 5

Zach Roper notched 5 scores and Mitch Zieler put in 4 goals in the Eagles' 10-5 win over Brother Rice. Ben Crnich added one goal and Sean McNicholas blocked 15 shots in the winning effort.

 

Sandburg 17 Hinsdale Central 2

Zach Roper recorded 8 goals and both Ben Crnich and Mitch Zieler scored 3 times as the Eagles got past Hinsdale Central 17-2 to advance to the title game of the Brother Rice Tournament.

 

Waubonsie Valley 9 DLS 6

Cameron Steele, Kay Anderssen and Nathan Morris each scored 2 goals and Taurus Buzelis stopped 12 shots as the Warriors beat DLS 9-6 to claim third place at the Brother Rice Tournament. Bradin Krug, Jared Schreier and Mitch Kroenig all scored once in the win for WV.

 

Lockport 9 Sandburg 8

Matt Cavanaugh scored 4 goals and Eric Johnson netted 3 goals as the Porters beat Sandburg 9-8 to win the Brother Rice Tournament. Pat Melaniphy blocked 12 shots and both Joey Tomczuk and Zach Elias put in one score in the win.

 

 

GLENBROOK SOUTH TOURNAMENT

Libertyville 10 Prospect 8

Adam King recorded 7 goals to aid Libertyville in their 10-8 win over Prospect. Nathanael Ginnodo scored 3 goals in the loss for the Knights.

Hersey 16 Palatine 11

George Vladimirov put in 6 goals and Jack Carroll tallied 5 scores to help the Huskies top Palatine 16-11. Connor Reynolds also scored 2 times in the win for Hersey. Kristian Kalev scored 5 goals in the loss for the Pirates.

New Trier 11 Prospect 7

Alex Grant notched 3 goals as New Trier downed Prospect 11-7. Cam Mauer scored 2 goals in the loss for the Knights.

Palatine 15 Libertyville 13

Wally Kleinfeldt poured in 7 goals as the Pirates fended off Libertyville 15-13. Kristian Kalev also scored 6 times and Charlie Davis stopped 16 shots in the winning effort. Adam King totaled 4 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.

GBS 9 Hersey 7

Brant Boczek netted 4 goals to lead the Titans to a 9-7 victory over Hersey, Jack Carroll put in 6 goals in the loss for the Huskies.

Libertyville 16 Lake Forest 3

Adam King scored 4 goals as the Wildcats beat Lake Forest 16-3.

Naperville North 16 Hersey 7

Nolan Roberts totaled 6 goals in the Huskies' 16-7 triumph over Hersey. Jack Carroll notched 5 scores in the loss for the other Huskies.

New Trier 8 Evanston 2

Max Kreuger registered 3 goals as the Trevians knocked off Evanston 8-2 on Saturday.

Palatine 17 Lake Forest 5

Kristian Kalev recorded 8 goals and Omar El Hoffi netted 5 scores as the Pirates beat Lake Forest 17-5.

Naperville North 10 GBS 7

Nolan Roberts scored 4 goals and Joe Tomashek netted 3 goals as Naperville North defeated GBS 10-7 on Saturday to win the GBS Tournament. Brant Boczek scored 3 times in the loss for the hosts.

 

 

MUNDELEIN TOURNAMENT

Mundelein 11 Conant 5

Jude Krauss poured in 6 goals and Mike Ward added 2 scores as Mundelein defeated Conant 11-5. Alfonso Ochoa made 7 saves and Andrew Gray, Art Kasemets, and Kyle Siebert each added one goal in the win for the Mustangs.

 

Mundelein 8 Homewood-Flossmoor 5

Mike Ward scored 3 goals, Andrew Gray added 2 scores, and Alfonso Ochoa made 12 saves as Mundelein beat H-F 8-5. Art Kasemets, Jeremy Westgate, and Jude Krauss each added one goal in the win.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor 13 Conant 2

Broc Thompson recorded 5 goals, Haden Santefort netted 4 goals, and Jakobi McClellan made 12 saves in the Vikings' 13-2 victory over Conant. Robbie Schloen also scored 2 times in the win for H-F.

 

 

NEUQUA VALLEY TOURNAMENT

Neuqua Valley 15 Bradley 6

The Wildcats opened their own event with a 15-6 victory over Bradley on Saturday. Zach Zahrobsky and Jon Langfoss each had 2 goals in the loss for the Boilers.

 

Maine South 15 Bradley 7

The Hawks opened their tournament slate with a 15-7 victory over Bradley on Saturday. Grant Langfoss, Mark Hoffman and Nick Dalzell each scored 2 goals in the loss for the Boilers.

 

Bradley 9 Metea Valley 7

Grant Langfoss scored 4 goals and Nick Dalzell added 3 goals as Bradley notched their first win of the event by getting past Metea Valley 9-7. Jacob LaMore also made 12 saves in the winning effort.

 

 

NILES WEST TOURNAMENT

St Patrick 8 Oak Park 6

Joseph Gibson netted 3 goals and Connor O'Rourke scored 2 times in the Shamrocks' 8-6 victory over Oak Park.

 

St Patrick 10 Wheeling 5

Anthony Barsano totaled 5 goals to help the Shamrocks beat Wheeling 10-5.

 

St Patrick 8 Niles West 7

Joseph Gibson netted 3 goals and Anthony Barsano added 2 scores in the Shamrocks' 8-7 win over Niles West.

 

 

R-B TOURNAMENT

Maine East 11 Hoffman 5
Mike Babula and Krystof Maniewski both scored 4 goals and James Caldwell scored 3 goals as Maine East beat Hoffman 11-5.

 

Maine East 12 Morton 9

Mike Babula racked up 6 goals and Krystof Maniewski netted 2 goals in the Blue Demons' 12-9 win over Morton. Sumair Sheik scored 2 times and Ricky Pokorski scored once in the win for Maine East.

 

Maine East 8 R-B 6
Mike Babula totaled 4 goals, Ricky Pokorski scored 2 goals, and both Krystof Maniewski and Julio Montiel scored once in Maine East's 8-6 victory over R-B.

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

Evanston 5 Jenison 3

Aliya Abdelhak scored 3 goals and Honore Collins and Millie Rosen both scored once as the Wildkits used a 3-1 run in the third period to pull away from Jenison and earn a 5-3 win. Bailey Arnold scored 2 times and Rachel Byrnes put in one goal in the loss for the Michigan-based squad.

 

Naperville Central 11 Sandburg 3

Kaela Codo scored 5 goals and Faith Vandercar made 10 saves as Naperville Central beat Sandburg 11-3 on Saturday. Beth Ryan and Jessica Fox each added 2 goals and both Kristina Altuve and Michelle Spaits scored once in the winning effort. The Redhawks led 5-2 at halftime and went on a 6-1 run in the second half to pull away from the Eagles.

 

Evanston 5 Sandburg 2

Madison Collins recorded 2 goals and Olivia Everhart blocked 10 shots as the Wildkits earned a 5-2 win over Sandburg on Saturday. Aliya Abdelhak, Courtney Gregori, and Karissa McBride each added one goal in the win for Evanston. Sarah Dolitsky scored 2 times and Caitlin Krull stopped 6 shots in the loss.

 

Naperville Central 5 Evanston 3

Michelle Spaits tallied 4 goals, Jessica Fox scored once, and Faith Vandercar made 7 saves as Naperville Central won their own event by beating Evanston 5-3. Courtney Gregori scored 2 goals, Millie Rosen put in one score and Olivia Everhart blocked 5 shots in the loss for the Wildkits.

 

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

Naperville North 12 Meadows 2

Jilian Eiken scored 5 goals and both Amber McClure and Lauren Liberio tallied 2 scores as the hosts beat Meadows 12-2 in the tournament opener. Dani DiMatteo, Katie Horn and Kyra Hartley each added a goal in the win for the Huskies. Erin Pletch and Rachel Renz each scored once in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Oak Park 14 Whitney Young 1

Katie Appell scored 5 goals and Genevieve Curry notched 3 scores in the Huskies' 14-1 win over Whitney Young. Jilly Cronin added 2 goals and Anna Vogel, Grace Martin, Jocelyn Weisman, and Mia Andreoli each scored once in the OPRF victory. Curry also made 4 steals and Jordin Hale blocked 17 shots and dished out 6 assists in the win. Claire Fridkin scored the lone goal in the loss for the Dolphins.

 

Meadows 5 Lockport 4

Rachel Renz scored 2 goals and the trio of Betsy Zanocco, Natalie Delporte, and Sara Luedhoff each put in one goal in the Mustangs' 5-4 win over Lockport. Malea Fischer tallied 2 scores and both Ashley O'Neill and Jennifer Rothgery added one goal in the losing effort.

 

Hinsdale Central 11 Whitney Young 10

Nina Relias poured in 7 goals and Frances Gibson added 2 scores in the Red Devils' 11-10 victory over Whitney Young. Jessie Cronin scored 4 goals and both Audrey Anderson and Melanie Balanon tacked on 2 scores in the Dolphins' loss. 

 

Naperville North 16 Lockport 1

Jilian Eiken netted 5 goals and Elle Mattern, Kyra Hartley, and Taylor Stoner each scored 2 times as the Huskies knocked off Lockport 16-1. Five other players (Alyssa Kolenda, Dani DiMatteo, Katie Anderson, Katie Horn, Kate MacDuff) scored once for the victors. Ashley O'Neill scored the only goal in the loss for the Porters.

 

Oak Park 17 Hinsdale Central 2

Katie Appell recorded 6 goals and both Genevieve Curry and Jilly Cronin scored 4 goals as the Huskies defeated Hinsdale Central 17-2. Claire Rolfes, Hannah Smith, and Helen Thomasen each tallied one goal and Jordin Hale stopped 13 shots in the win for OPRF. Heather DeBoer and Nina Relias each scored once in the loss for the Red Devils.

 

Whitney Young 15 Lockport 5

Jessie Cronin scored 6 times and Fairie Hughes notched 4 scores as the Dolphins defeated Lockport 15-5 to claim fifth place at the Naperville North Tournament. Audrey Anderson added 2 goals in the win for the victors, while Claire Fahey, Gabby Chelette, and Jessica Beal all scored once. Ashley O'Neill, Malea Fisher, Erin Kral, Lauren Gryko and Mikaela Milligan each scored once in the loss for the Porters.

 

Hinsdale Central 7 Meadows 6 (OT)

Nina Relias scored 4 times, Frances Gibson added 2 goals, and Rachel Parks scored once to help the Red Devils outlast Meadows 7-6 in overtime in the third-place game at the Naperville North Tournament. In the loss, Natalie Delporte and Raven Holobud scored 2 goals and both Erin Pletch and Sara Luedhoff put in one score for the Mustangs.

 

Naperville North 9 Oak Park 6

Jilian Eiken scored 5 goals and Katie Horn chipped in with 2 scores in the Huskies' 9-6 victory over OPRF. Dani DiMatteo and Taylor Stoner each added a goal for North, who claimed the title at their own event. Genevieve Curry and Mia Andreoli both scored 2 times and both Katie Appell and Maura Dahl chipped in with one goal in the losing effort. Jordin Hale blocked 13 shots on the defensive end for OPRF.

 

 

NEUQUA VALLEY TOURNAMENT

Neuqua Valley 9 Bradley 6

Kaitlyn Gorski and Morgan Miller both registered 3 goals and Issi French made 7 saves to help the hosts earn a 9-6 victory over Bradley. Katherine Carrol, Lauren Kania, and Sami Jaquez each added one goal in the win for the Wildcats.

 

Neuqua Valley 6 Maine South 3

Kaitlyn Gorski scored 3 goals and Issi French blocked 12 shots to help lift Neuqua Valley over Maine South 6-3 on Saturday. Sammi Jaquez scored 2 times, Wyli Erlechman scored once, and Morgan Miller led the defense with 5 steals in the win.

 

Neuqua Valley 16 Metea Valley 2

Morgan Miller totaled 6 goals, Kaitlyn Gorski scored 4 times, and Issi French made 10 saves and scored once in Neuqua Valley's tournament-winning 16-2 win over Metea Valley. Sammi Jaquez scored 2 times and Wyli Erlechman, Nicole Walsh, and Lauren Backe each tallied one score in the victory.

 

 

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

EGR 10 Mundelein 6

Morgan Roberts scored 4 times and both Emily Lundquist and Emma Smith scored 2 goals as EGR topped Mundelein 10-6. Emily Garcia tallied 3 goals, Karrie Kozokar scored 2 times, and Megan Murphy scored once in the losing effort.

 

Fenwick 13 Rockford 4

Catie Wallace recorded 4 goals, Colleen Barron notched 3 scores, and Bridget Carey and Kelly Frumkin both scored 2 goals in Fenwick's 13-4 win over Rockford. Olivia Wendt and Shannon Forst also scored once in the winning effort. Kallen Wolfer put in 2 goals in the loss for the Rams.

 

Okemos 7 Mother McAuley 1

Katie Dudley registered 4 scores and Sarah Williams scored 3 times as Okemos got past Mother McAuley 7-1. Tess Bowens scored once in the loss for the Mighty Macs.

 

Fenwick 7 EGR 2

Janette Angelini tallied 3 scores, Colleen Barron scored 2 goals, and Catie Wallace added one goal to help the Friars beat EGR 7-2. Emily Lundquist scored both goals in the loss for the Michigan squad.

 

Stevenson 8 Rockford 2

Ashley Oliver slammed in 3 scores, Melissa Gartenberg scored 2 times, and the trio of Annika Hotchkiss, Allison Travetto, and Autumn Hoang each scored once in Stevenson's 8-2 triumph over Rockford. Kara Vandawater netted 2 goals in the loss for the Rams.

 

Okemos 15 Mundelein 7

Katie Dudley racked up 7 goals and Sarah Williams scored 3 times as Okemos beat Mundelein 15-7 to finish the event with a perfect record. Karrie Kozokar scored 3 goals, Allie Booth put in 2 scores, and Megan Murphy scored once for the Mustangs.

 

Mother McAuley 6 EGR 2

Fran Williamson scored 4 goals and both Clare Bryar and Tess Bowens scored once as the Mighty Macs beat EGR 6-2. Anna Stephens and Emma Smith each tallied one goal in the losing effort.

 

Fenwick 18 Mundelein 3

Catie Wallace and Colleen Barron both registered 4 goals and Eryn Kulik netted 3 goals as the Friars beat Mundelein 18-3. Allie Booth, Emily Garcia and Tara Lawson each scored once in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Mother McAuley 8 Stevenson 7

Clare Bryar scored 6 goals and Maggie Hennigan added 2 goals as the Mighty Macs topped Stevenson 8-7 on Saturday. Allison Travetto scored 4 goals, Melissa Gartenberg notched 2 scores, and Annika Hotchkiss scored once in the narrow loss for the Patriots.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Lincoln-Way Central 8 Wheeling 7

Cailey Davern and Liz Klock each recorded 3 goals and Sabrina Miglorini stopped 10 shots as the Knights defeated Wheeling 8-7. Kristi Howe added a goal and Kim Bernhard did the same and also made 5 steals to lead the defense. Emily Sowa and Theresa Godlewski scored 3 goals apiece and Argelia Diaz put in one goal in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

STC North 15 Lincoln-Way West 6

Nicole Guyett scored 6 goals and Angelica Villa notched 4 scores as the North Stars defeated LWW 15-6. Katie Difiglio and Katie Quinn each added 2 goals while Monica Guyett scored once and made 12 steals to lead the strong defensive effort for North.
