GAME PREVIEWS (Saturday, May 2)

 

 

  

 

CONANT TOURNAMENT

Conant hosts a ten-team, twenty-game event with an eccentric mix of teams that start play on Friday and continue throughout the day on Saturday. The Cougars are joined by BG, Lane, Libertyville, LWN, Maine West, Niles West, Neuqua, Northside and Sandburg for the festivities.

 

 

LINDBERGH TOURNAMENT

St Patrick heads to to Missouri for a late-season tournament at Lindbergh and will lock horns with several of the Show Me State's best teams. The Shamrocks face the hosts on Friday night and battle DeSmet on Saturday morning before heading to the championship round.

 

 

STC NORTH TOURNAMENT

The North Stars welcome Hersey, Metea Valley, St Rita, Wheeling and Vernon Hills for a six-team, nine game event that kicks off at 8:30am on Saturday morning.

 

 

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

The Patriots host a crucial late-season tournament that often serves as a preview of the state tournament. This year is no exception, as several of the top teams in the state are in attendance. The top four teams in the state (Fenwick, Naperville Central, Stevenson, Lyons) are joined by Brother Rice, Loyola, Palatine, New Trier and Oak Park for an eighteen-game event that features a championship round on Saturday.

 

 

YORK TOURNAMENT

The Dukes' Co-Ed Tourney is an all-day event that features Latin, Maine East and Whitney Young in a six-game event beginning at 8:50am and alternating between boys' and girls' contests.

Fenwick travels across state lines to participate in the Rockford Tournament, an event featuring several of the top teams in Michigan. Can the Friars continue their success against their Michigan counterparts after they won the event last year and went 4-0 last weekend at Stevenson against Michigan teams?

 

 

YORK TOURNAMENT

The Dukes' Co-Ed Tourney is an all-day event that features Latin, Maine East and Whitney Young in a six-game event beginning at 8:00am and alternating between boys' and girls' contests.

CONANT TOURNAMENT

Neuqua Valley 10 Sandburg 5

Simon Shatinsky scored 4 goals and drew 4 ejections while Joey Dalesandro totaled 3 goals and 5 steals in the Wildcats' 10-5 win over Sandburg. Scott DePuy also scored 2 goals, Brandon Gorski tallied one goal and Austin Mollway made 16 saves in the victory.

 

Neuqua Valley 18 Buffalo Grove 6

Simon Shatinsky recorded 4 goals, Scott DePuy notched 3 scores and Joey Dalesandro scored 2 times and made 5 steals in the Wildcats' 18-6 victory over Buffalo Grove.

 

Neuqua Valley 12 Niles West 8

Joey Dalesandro totaled 5 goals and 4 assists and Scott DePuy scored 4 times as the Widcats emerged with a 12-8 win over Niles West. Simon Shatinsky added 2 goals, Jack Angus scored once and Austin Mollway made 6 saves in the winning effort.

 

Neuqua Valley 10 Conant 9

Joey Dalesandro delivered the game-winning goal with :02 left in regulation to send the Wildcats past the hosts 10-9 as Neuqua Valley won the Conant Tournament on Saturday night. Scott DePuy and Simon Shatinsky both netted 3 scores, Dalesandro totaled 2 goals and 13 steals and Austin Mollway stopped 8 shots for the winners. Carter Edwards and Brett Whaley each added one goal in the victory. Jim Estep led the Cougars with 4 goals, Braden LaMore scored 3 times and both Cody Yeiser and Tyler Goehrke tallied one score in the losing effort.

 

 

STC NORTH TOURNAMENT

STC North 13 Wheeling 6

Chris Stanek totaled 5 goals, Nathan Bawolek scored 4 times and John Pretet put in 3 goals as the North Stars beat Wheeling 13-6. Ryan Helfers added a goal and Garrett Allamian made 13 saves in the win for the hosts.

 

Hersey 9 Metea Valley 7

Jake Hall poured in 8 goals to lead the Huskies past Metea Valley 9-7. Keegan Reilly tallied 4 scores in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

STC North 15 Vernon Hills 5

Nathan Bawolek and Ryan Helfers each scored 4 goals while Jack Williams and John Pretet each notched 2 scores in the North Stars' 15-5 win over Vernon Hills. Chris Stanek and Chris Lilly each added one goal and Garrett Allamian stopped 6 shots for the victors.

 

St Rita 19 Metea Valley 7

Eric Johnson scored 6 times and both Dan Sliazis and Matt Lopez recorded 5 goals in the Mustangs' 19-7 victory over Metea Valley. Keegan Reilly netted 3 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Wheeling 20 Vernon Hills 7

Nate Reiff poured in 8 goals and Jake Noel netted 6 scores in the Wildcats' 20-7 victory over Vernon Hills. Landon Lockwood also scored 3 goals in the win for Wheeling. Patrick Pranica led the Cougars' offense with 3 goals in the losing effort.

 

St Rita 12 Hersey 9

Eric Johnson netted 4 goals and Matt Lopez scored 3 times as the Mustangs beat Hersey 12-9.

 

STC North 8 St Rita 4

Chris Stanek recorded 5 goals and John Pretet scored 2 goals as the North Stars beat St Rita 8-4 to win their own event. Nathan Bawolek also scored once in the title-game win. Eric Johnson scored 3 goals and Matt Lopez notched one score in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Wheeling 14 Hersey 5

Nate Reiff totaled 7 goals and Jake Noel scored 3 times in the Wildcats' 14-5 win over Hersey to finish in third place at the event. Kyle Noel and Landon Lockwood each added 2 scores in the win for Wheeling.

 

Metea Valley 15 Vernon Hills 7

Michael Litinsev scored 3 goals and Keegan Reilly scored 2 times as the Mustangs beat Vernon Hills 15-7 to finish in fifth place at the event. Patrick Pranica notched 2 scores in the loss for the Cougars.

 

 

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT

Loyola 5 Palatine 1

George Harris and Ragen Murphy each notched 2 scores and John Pasquesi scored once as Loyola beat Palatine 5-1. Ryan Schlaiss scored the lone goal in the loss for the Pirates.

 

Oak Park 8 Brother Rice 5

The Huskies bounced back from Friday's loss to Fenwick with a 8-5 victory over Rice. Josh Gronwold put in 3 scores, Kiernan Kelty and Lawrence Cozzi both scored 2 times and Robbie Wickes tallied one score in the win for OPRF. Matt Bachler scored 2 goals in the loss for the Crusaders.

 

Lyons 8 New Trier 7

Sam Szczepaniak scored the game-winning goal with :38 seconds left to help lift the Lions over New Trier 8-7. Tommy Kaptur scored 3 goals and George Lundgren tallied 2 scores in the win for LT. Alex Grant put in 3 goals in the loss for the Trevians.

 

Fenwick 7 Stevenson 6

Andrew Bertschy, Danny Farmer and Jack Mahoney each scored 2 goals and DJ Perez scored once as the Friars outlasted Stevenson 7-6 in the first game of the event's championship round. Kurt Holzer scored 2 goals and Alex Kapecki, Collin Kapecki, Cris Tomasetti and Dan Maleski each scored once in the loss for the hosts.

 

Loyola 8 Oak Park 3

Jack Schermerhorn and Mike Considine each scored 2 goals and Walter Haracz blocked 10 shots as the Ramblers beat Oak Park 8-3. Chris Jovanovic, Kevin Manna, Max Ashurst and Ragen Murphy each added one goal and John Pasquesi led the defense with 4 steals. Josh Gronwold, Kevin Perez and Robbie Wickes each netted one goal in the losing effort.

 

Brother Rice 12 Palatine 8

Brennan Russell scored 4 goals, Matt Bachler tallied 3 scores and Tommy Davey netted 2 goals to help the Crusaders beat Palatine 12-8. Jacob Baran registered 3 scores and Ryan Schlaiss netted 2 goals in the loss for the Pirates.                                                 

 

Fenwick 10 Naperville Central 6

Danny Farmer scored 3 goals while Bailey Wendt, Colin Daly, Jack Mahoney each scored 2 times as the Friars defeated Naperville Central 10-6 to win the event. Andrew Bertschy registered one goal and Will Skowron blocked 4 shots in the win. Nick Walker scored 4 goals and Christian May put in 2 scores in the loss for the Redhawks.

 

Lyons 6 Oak Park 5

George Lundgren scored a breakaway goal in sudden-death overtime as Lyons came from behind to beat Oak Park 6-5. The Lions trailed 4-1 late in the second half before closing out regulation with a 4-1 run to send the contest to extra time. Lundgren and Sam Szczepaniak each scored 2 goals while Tommy Kaptur sent the game to overtime with a lob shot with :07 left for the winners. Josh Gronwold and Robbie Wickes  both scored 2 goals and Matt Mitrovich scored once in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Brother Rice 15 New Trier 13

Matt Bachler recorded 7 goals and Peter Gurka notched 3 scores in the Crusaders' 15-13 win over New Trier.

 

Naperville Central 5 Stevenson 3

Nick Walker scored 3 goals and Kyle Jackson scored 2 times in the Redhawks' 5-3 win over Stevenson. Alex Kapecki registered 2 scores in the losing effort for the hosts.

 

Lyons 7 Loyola 5

George Lundgren and Sam Szczepaniak each scored 2 goals as the Lions beat Loyola 7-5. Five  players scored once in the loss for the defending champions.

 

New Trier 11 Palatine 6

Chandler Tempest scored 3 goals and both Henry Yavitt and Mason McQuet put in 2 scores as the Trevs ended the event with an 11-6 win over Palatine. Ivan Turkan recorded 3 goals and Ryan Schlaiss netted 2 goals in the loss.

 

 

YORK TOURNAMENT

York 13 Maine East 3

Danny Stumpf recorded 4 goals and Tim Evely added 3 goals in the Dukes' 13-3 tournament opening win over Maine East. Mateo Kozomora netted 2 goals and Tyler Vonderheide scored once in the loss for East.

 

Maine East 9 Latin 8

Mateo Kozomora recorded 7 goals to help lead the Blue Demons past Latin 9-8. Max Falb tallied 4 scores in the loss for the Romans.

 

York 13 Whitney Young 9

Danny Stumpf notched 5 goals while Alex Marlott, Jordan Jopes, Logan Frendreis and Luke Nowak all put in 2 goals in the Dukes' 13-9 victory over Whitney Young. Daniel Rusca scored 3 times in the loss for the Dolphins.

 

York 10 Latin 1

Logan Frendreis recorded 4 goals and Tim Evely tallied 2 scores in the Dukes 10-1 triumph over Latin. Sam Orlin scored once in the loss for the Romans.

 

Whitney Young 15 Maine East 13

Duncan McDonald recorded 7 goals and Daniel Rusca netted 3 goals to lead the Dolphins past Maine East 15-13. Mateo Kozomora scored 10 goals and Tyler Vonderheide notched 4 scores in the loss for the Blue Demons.

 

Whitney Young 14 Latin 4

Duncan McDonald poured in 8 goals to lead the Dolphins to a 14-4 victory over Latin. Max Falb tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Romans.

Isabelle Gil scored 4 goals, Grace Achepohl netted 3 scores and Carli York scored 2 times as York topped Maine East 13-3. Sarah Hua-Pham notched all 3 goals for the Blue Demons in the loss.

 

Maine East 12 Latin 5

Zainab Naseer registered 6 goals and both Hannah Farley and Sarah Hua-Pham netted 2 goals to help the Blue Demons beat Latin 12-5.

 

York 12 Whitney Young 2

Grace Achepohl recorded 6 goals and Carli York scored 3 times in the Dukes' 12-2 win over the Dolphins. Isabelle Gil also scored 2 times in the win.

 

Whitney Young 10 Maine East 9 (OT)

Jessica Beal scored the game-winning goal in overtime to send the Dolphins past Maine East 10-9. Pamela Medina scored 3 goals and Fairie Hughes added 2 scores in the win for Young. Sarah Hua-Pham notched 4 scores and both Hannah Farley and Zainab Naseer scored 2 times in the loss for the Blue Demons.

 

York 10 Latin 1

Isabelle Gil registered 3 scores and Grace Achepohl scored 2 times as the Dukes knocked off Latin 10-1.

 

Young 14 Latin 4

Fairie Hughes recorded 7 goals to lead the Dolphins past Latin 14-4.
