2014 SECTIONALS


More than 150 boys and girls teams will begin their quest for a chance to advance to the state tournament, starting with the sectional play-in games on May 12 & 13.

 

The boys' quarterfinal action starts on May 14, followed by the girls' quarterfinal games on May 15. The sectional semifinals are played on May 16, with the sectional final games all taking place on Saturday, May 17.

Links to every sectional site are provided below. These will be updated continuously with schedules, game times, and scores/recaps throughout the week of sectionals. At the end of the week, we will have Sectional Ballers and the All-Sectional Teams (as soon as they are submitted to us from each sectional site).

GBS SECTIONAL

Loyola 17 Glenbrook South 4

Marta Considine totaled 7 goals and Claire Voss netted 6 scores in the Ramblers' 17-4 victory over GBS. Alana Dean, Emi Croghan, and Hannah Rapp each scored once and Colleen Ahern made 6 stops in the Loyola win. Carolyn Levi, Dana Grad, Rachel Spector, and Rema Abu-Hashim each tallied one score in the loss for the hosts.

 

Maine East 4 Glenbrook North 3

Medina Husejnovic recorded 3 goals and the Maine East defense put the clamps down on GBN to avenge last year's sectional loss with a 4-3 victory over the Spartans. Lindsay Fraser, Melaney Van Spankeren, and Patricia Doolan each scored once in the loss for North.

 

New Trier 10 Prospect 1

Lauren Barrett registered 4 scores to help the Trevians beat Prospect 10-1. Danielle McCallister scored the lone goal in the second half for the Knights.

 

Maine South 8 Hersey 5

Giles Molloy and Jenna Zitkus each scored 4 goals to help the Hawks fend off Hersey to advance to the sectional semifinals with an 8-5 win over Hersey. Katie Lindholm led the Huskies with 3 scores in the loss.

 

 

LWC SECTIONAL

Lincoln-Way East 17 Bradley 3

Aimee Schaaf recorded 6 goals in the first half and Jill Connolly blocked 15 shots as the Griffins knocked off Bradley 17-3 on Thursday. Lauren VanderVelde also scored 4 times in the win for East.

 

Lincoln-Way North 11 Lincoln-Way West 6

Missy Wortel and Niki Beringer each scored 4 goals as LWN outscored LWW 6-2 in the second half in order to secure an 11-6 victory over the Warriors. Gena Tanquilut recorded 5 goals in the loss for West.

 

Andrew 16 Marian 5

Megan Hofer registered 7 scores and 5 assists to lead the T-Bolts past Marian 6-5. Caily Friel and Genny McCarty each tallied 3 scores and Anna Tamulonis blocked 15 shots in the win. Alison Sifuentes, Courtney Carter, and Jessica Gomez each scored once as well for Andrew. Mae Van Beest totaled 4 scores and Sophie Sesto scored one goal in the loss for the Spartans.

 

Lincoln-Way Central 10 Homewood-Flossmoor 3

Liz Klock recorded 4 goals, both Cailey Davern and Kim Bernhard put in 2 scores, and Sabrina Miglorini stopped 9 shots in the Knights' 10-3 win over H-F. Kristi Howe and Michelle Dundek each added one goal as Central outscored the Vikings 7-2 in the second half to secure the win. Rebecca Tanner rejected 15 shots in the loss for H-F.

LYONS SECTIONAL

Fenwick 16 Resurrection 2

Clare Durkin recorded 4 goals and Bridget Carey scored 2 times as Fenwick defeated Resurrection 16-2. Celeste Castillo and Trisha Duarte each netted one goal apiece in the final period for the Bandits.

 

York 15 Morton 7

Grace Achepohl and Perri Brinkmeier both registered 4 goals and Lauren Tamm notched 3 scores as the Dukes downed Morton 15-7. Carly York, Grace Feilen, Kathleen O'Brien, and Kirsten Rasnic each added one goal in the win for York. Steph Torres scored 3 times and Natalie Pantaleon added 2 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Oak Park 14 Taft 0

Katie Appell and Mia Andreoli each scored 3 goals and Jordin Hale made 6 saves and earned a shutout as OPRF defeated Taft 14-0. Anna Vogel, Jilly Cronin, and Kevan Casson each tallied 2 scores and both Hannah Smith and Maura Dahl tacked on one score apiece in the win for the Huskies.

 

Lyons 16 R-B 3

Emma Hirt scored 5 times, Allie Kurth tallied 3 scores, and Jessie Wittenberg and Maddie Janik combined to make 9 saves in the Lions' 16-3 triumph over R-B. Frankie Delleman and Julia Cohen each recorded 2 goals and Erin Yang chipped in with 4 assists in the win. Almasa Duheric, Annika Moore, Haley Hughes, and Sara McTigue rounded out the scoring for the Lions with one goal each.

 

 

METEA VALLEY SECTIONAL

STC North 13 Hinsdale Central 12

Katie Difiglio delivered the game-winning goal with six seconds left in regulation to send the North Stars past Hinsdale Central 13-12 in a dramatic finish at Metea Valley on Thursday. Moments earlier, the Red Devils tied the game after a steal to nearly force overtime before Difiglio's heroics. Katie Quinn (who drew the ejection that led to the final goal) and Monica Guyett both recorded 4 goals as STC North used a 5-1 run in the third period to seemingly pull away before a furious rally by Central. Difiglio and Nicole Guyett each added 2 goals and Katie Steele scored once in the win for North.

 

Naperville Central 15 Waubonsie Valley 2

Kristina Altuve recorded 5 goals and 4 assists and Michelle Spaits scored 4 times as the Redhawks rolled to a 15-2 win over Waubonsie Valley. Emily Rodgers and Jennifer Oliver each added 2 goals, Kaela Codo chipped in with 4 assists, and Faith Vandercar made 11 saves in the victory. Emily Westlove, Jessica Fox, and Sarah Giuliani rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece for Central.

 

Neuqua Valley 11 Metea Valley 3

Morgan Miller scored 7 goals and Issi French blocked 13 shots and held Metea Valley scoreless for three periods as Neuqua Valley emerged with an 11-3 victory over the Mustangs. Lauren Backe added 2 goals and both Kaitlyn Gorski and Zoe Salafatinos scored once in the Wildcats' win.

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

Wheeling 12 Vernon Hills 8

Emily Sowa notched 5 scores, Theresa Godlewski added 4 goals, and Shannon Richards tallied 2 scores to help lift Wheeling over Vernon Hills 12-8. Argelia Diaz also netted one score in the win for the Wildcats.

 

Stevenson 23 Highland Park 2

Allison Travetto recorded 6 goals and Melissa Gartenberg netted 5 scores in Stevenson's 23-2 win over Highland Park on Thursday. Annika Hotchkiss, Autumn Hoang, Bridget Wynne, Jordyn Landau, and Sami Weiner each added 2 scores and both Fiona Gaffney and Sara Ploch scored once for the Patriots. Becky Callen and Lauren Burns combined to stop 12 shots in the win. Ari Freeman and Maddie Gelberg both scored once in the loss for the Giants.

 

Mundelein 14 Buffalo Grove 5

Emily Garcia netted 4 goals and both Allie Boothe and Emily Dodd registered 3 goals as Mundelein beat Buffalo Grove 14-5. Anna Ward and Lauren Blake each added one goal in the win for the hosts.

 

 

PALATINE SECTIONAL

Fremd 16 St Viator 3

Nicole Degla, Samantha Barry, and Samantha DiCanio each recorded 3 goals to help send Fremd past St Viator 16-3 in the sectional quarterfinal round. Laura Foss, Megan Drake, and Susie Lambesis each put in one score in the loss for the Lions.

 

Conant 13 Hoffman 2

Carmen Rosas poured in 6 goals and Emily Weingart netted 3 goals as the Cougars earned a 13-2 victory over Hoffman. Maddy Demaret made 7 saves and Rosas totaled 4 steals in Conant's win. Allie Ouimet and Jessica Sullivan both scored once in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Barrington 8 Schaumburg 7

Sam Gavars notched 4 scores and both Maddi Burrell and Mia Latimer scored 2 goals as Barrington held off Schamburg's late rally to earn an 8-7 victory. Delaney Houts and Krystal Vezzetti each scored 2 goals in the loss for the Saxons.

 

Palatine 13 Meadows 2

Rachel Chumbook notched 7 scores and Caroline Wojtas scored 4 times to help Palatine beat Meadows 13-2. Caitlin McHugh and Jackie Kincanon each added one score and Kim Butler made 8 saves in the Pirates' win. Erin Pletch and Maggie Feikes each tallied one goal in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

Richards 12 Stagg 9

Misty Gardner totaled 9 goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 12-9 quarterfinal round win over Stagg. Mallory Schaub tallied 4 scores in the loss for the Chargers.

 

Sandburg 12 Curie 1

Sarah Dolitsky scored 4 times as part of a balanced Eagles' attack that fended off Curie 12-1. Jennifer Villanueva recorded the lone goal in the loss for the Condors.

 

Bremen 23 Argo 4

Hannah Schultz recorded 7 goals as Bremen had no trouble getting past Argo 23-4. Desirey Gonzalez put in 2 goals in the loss for the Argonauts.

 

 

UIC SECTIONAL

Evanston 13 Westinghouse 1

Olivia Everhart made 13 saves while 13 different players scored once for the Wildkits as they knocked off Westinghouse 13-1.
