SECTIONAL SCHEDULE/RESULTS

Tuesday, May 7

Play-In Games

(8) McHenry 12 (9) Vernon Hills 6

Garrett Floden recorded 6 goals, including 4 in the opening half, to lead McHenry to a 12-6 victory over Vernon Hills in the first play-in game of the Mundelein Sectional on Tuesday. The Warriors move on to play Stevenson in a rematch of last year's sectional final game on Thursday.

 

(7) Wheeling 10 (10) Deerfield 2

Noah Ihde and the Wildcats' defense limited Deerfield to just 2 goals in Tuesday's 10-2 victory. Wheeling will look to pull off an upset against Lake Forest in Thursday's quarterfinals.

 

Thursday, May 9

Quarterfinals

(1) Stevenson 16 (8) McHenry 4

Mitchell Sokolsky scored 5 goals to help Stevenson top McHenry 16-4 in the first quarterfinal game of the night at Mundelein. Alex Divanyan, Josh Weisberg, Remy Dalloul, and Varun Mummadi each recorded 2 goals in the win for the Patriots.

 

(5) Libertyville 13 (4) Mundelein 8

Jeremy Kucera totaled 4 scores as the Wildcats recovered from an early 3-0 deficit and later outscored the Mustangs 6-1 in the second half to grab a 13-8 win over the hosts on Thursday. Alex Wang added 3 goals and Eric Boynton netted 2 scores for the victors. Connor Black scored 3 times and Jason Rehor put in 2 goals in the loss for Mundelein.

 

(2) Lake Forest 10 (7) Wheeling 6

Jake Gloor led the Scouts with 4 goals in a 10-6 victory over Wheeling on Thursday night in the sectional quarterfinals at Mundelein.

 

(3) Palatine 23 (6) Buffalo Grove 3

Omar El Hoffi and Wally Kleinfeldt each poured in 5 goals and Kristian Kalev scored 4 times as Palatine downed Buffalo Grove 23-3. Alex Brons and Christian Kalfas both tallied 3 scores, Ryan Schlaiss netted 2 goals, and Peter Blackham totaled 11 blocks and 5 steals in the Pirates' blowout victory.

 

Friday, May 10

Semifinals

(1) Stevenson 9 (5) Libertyville 7

Mitchell Sokolsky scored 5 goals, Remy Dalloul drew 5 ejections, and Rob O'Brien made 14 saves as the Patriots inched away from the Wildcats in the second half to earn a 9-7 win on Friday night. Taylor Baretz and Varun Mummadi each added 2 scores in the Stevenson win. Jeremy Kucera notched 3 scores and Alex Wang recorded 2 goals in the loss for Libertyville.

 

(3) Palatine 13 (2) Lake Forest 7

Christian Kalfas totaled 4 goals, Kristian Kalev netted 3 scores, and Alex Brons and Omar El Hoffi each scored 2 times as Palatine pulled away from Lake Forest in the second half with an 8-3 run to earn a 13-7 victory on Friday night. Brons added 8 steals and Peter Blackham made 20 saves in the Pirates win. Colin Rowe and Jason Woodruff both tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Scouts.

SECTIONAL FINALS

 

 

Saturday, May 11

Finals

(1) Stevenson 9 (3) Palatine 7

Remy Dalloul scored the first four goals for Stevenson and Varun Mummadi added 2 key goals in the final period as Stevenson earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Palatine. Josh Weisberg, Mitchell Sokolsky, and Taylor Baretz each added one score in the win for the Patriots. Omar El Hoffi helped keep the Pirates in the game with 3 scores, while Christian Kalfas added two fourth-quarter goals and both Alex Brons and Kristian Kalev scored once in the loss for Palatine.

 

QUARTER 1

Remy Dalloul drew a foul and scored a quick goal to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

 

QUARTER 2

Dalloul converted his second goal of the game to give Stevenson a 2-0 lead. Kristian Kalev responded with a goal after an ejection to cut the lead in half.

 

QUARTER 3

Omar El Hoffi tied the game at 2-2 with a tip-in goal early in the period for Palatine. Dalloul responded with 2 goals for the Patriots, while El Hoffi notched a goal for the Pirates as the score sat at 4-3 late in the period. Mitchell Sokolsky got on the board with his first to give Stevenson a narrow 5-3 advantage. The Pirates then got within a goal on El Hoffi's third score of the game with two minutes left in the third period. Alex Brons tied the game with a goal from two meters with 0:40 left until the final quarter, and neither team could convert in the closing seconds of the period.
 

QUARTER 4

Both defenses hold up on each team's first possession and we are tied with one minute gone in the last quarter. Then, Josh Weisberg and Varun Mummadi scored on consecutive trips to give the Patriots a 7-5 lead. Taylor Baretz scored midway through the period as Stevenson started to take control of the game. Christian Kalfas netted a breakaway goal with two minutes remaining to trim the Patriots' lead to 8-6. Mummadi iced the game with a goal from outside nine meters to give Stevenson a 9-6 advantage with just one minute remaining in regulation. Kalfas scored a consolation goal in the waning seconds, but it's not enough as Stevenson will play in the state tournament after a 9-7 win over Palatine.
