Top-seeded St Ignatius awaits Payton-Jones after the Grizzlies earned their
tenth win of the season after beating fellow CPS foe Ogden 21-6 in the
preliminary round of the UIC Sectional on Tuesday.
Thursday, May 9
Quarterfinals
(1) St Ignatius 14 (8) Payton-Jones 10
Nine different players recorded goals for the Wolfpack as they earned a
14-10 win over Payton-Jones to advance to the semifinal round of their own
sectional on Thursday.
(5) Lane 11 (4) Northside 8
Jake Boettcher scored 4 goals and both Ricardo Quezada and Steven Rummelhoff
notched 2 scores as Lane pulled away from Northside in the second half to
earn an 11-8 win over the Mustangs. Michal Rajski led NSP with 4 scores in
the losing effort.
(2) DeLaSalle 15 (7) Latin 5
Angelo Espinoza and Robert Rodriguez
each recorded 4 goals to lead the Meteors to a 15-5 victory over Latin.
(3) Whitney Young 16 (6) Von Steuben 11 (OT)
The Dolphins outscored Von Steuben 5-0
in overtime to claim a 16-11 win in the sectional quarterfinals at UIC on
Thursday. Seth Hughes poured in 9 goals in the win for the Dolphins.
Friday, May 10
Semifinals
(1) St Ignatius 11 (5) Lane 7
Billy Barth, John
Reyes, and Tom Dowling each scored 3 goals and Tym Zymon totaled 10 saves
and 4 steals as the Wolfpack advanced to the sectional finals with an 11-7
victory over Lane.
(2) DeLaSalle 13 (3) Whitney Young 10
The Meteors outscored the Dolphins 4-1 in the final period to break a 9-9
tie to advance to their first ever sectional final with a 13-10 triumph
over Whitney Young. Seth Hughes recorded 5 goals and Matt Gonzales blocked
17 shots in the loss for the Dolphins. Juan Reyes also chipped in with 2
scores in the losing effort.
