Tuesday, May 7

Play-In Games

(8) Shepard 5 (9) Gage Park 0

The Astros earned a forfeit win over Gage Park, as they move to the quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Sandburg on Thursday.

 

Thursday, May 9

Quarterfinals

(1) Sandburg 13 (8) Shepard 6

Kevin Tunney totaled 7 goals, Zach Roper notched 2 scores, and Sean McNicholas stopped 14 shots as the Eagles earned a 13-6 victory over Shepard. Neil Slowinski tallied 2 scores in the loss.

 

(4) St Rita 18 (5) Morgan Park 2

Daniel Sliazas scored 4 times to help St Rita beat Morgan Park 18-2. Jackie Dempsey put in 3 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

(2) Brother Rice 16 (7) Mt Carmel 6

Matt McComb recorded 4 goals to help lift the Crusaders over Mt Carmel 16-6. Dan Birmingham, Dave Jackson, and Luke Healy each netted 2 scores and Cal Kennedy blocked 11 shots in the win for Brother Rice. Louis Vitiritti put in 3 goals in the loss for the Caravan.

 

(3) Stagg 18 (6) Argo 8

Zack Amendola tallied 4 goals to lead Stagg to an 18-8 triumph over Argo in the late game on Thursday. Michael Cieglewicz put in 5 scores in the losing effort for the Argonauts.

 

Friday, May 10

Semifinals

(1) Sandburg 15 (4) St Rita 3

Kevin Tunney and Mike O'Malley both scored 4 goals as Sandburg defeated St Rita 15-3. Mitch Zieler and Paul Fitzpatrick each scored 2 goals in the Eagles' win. Charles Murphy tallied 2 scores and Eric Johnson scored once in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

(2) Brother Rice 9 (3) Stagg 6

Dan Birmingham scored 4 times and Matt Bachler chipped in with 2 scores as Brother Rice rebounded from an early 3-1 deficit to beat Stagg 9-6 in a physical encounter on Friday night. Dan Whalen, Dave Jackson, and Ian Disteldorf each tallied one score and Cal Kennedy blocked 12 shots in the Crusaders' victory. Ryan Petersen led the Chargers with 3 goals in the loss.

Saturday, May 11

Finals

(2) Brother Rice 7 (1) Sandburg 6

Brother Rice survived a thriller with Sandburg to earn a trip to the state tournament with a 7-6 win on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders trailed 3-0 after the opening period, then relinquished the lead to a furious mid-game rally from Brother Rice. The Eagles responded with run of their own, tying the game with three minutes remaining, but the Crusaders' Dave Jackson scored the game-winner with just nine seconds left off a pass from Matt Bachler before Rice made a stop in the final seconds to secure the win. Dan Birmingham and Dan Whalen both scored 2 goals and both Kevin Mayer and Ian Disteldorf notched one score in the win for Rice. Cal Kennedy also blocked 12 shots in the Crusaders' dramatic win. Kevin Tunney and Mike O'Malley each scored 2 times in the loss for the Eagles.
