PALATINE SECTIONAL
Palatine 23 Vernon Hills 10

Christian Kalfas poured in 7 goals, Omar El-Hoffi and Wally Kleinfeldt each registered 4 scores, and Alex Brons put away 3 goals as Palatine rolled to a 23-10 win over Vernon Hills. The Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 14-12 victory over Foreman in the preliminary round; they will take on defending champions Fenwick in the quarterfinals.

GAME PREVIEWS (Monday, May 7)

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

4:30pm Vernon Hills at Palatine

Palatine nearly won the Vernon Hills Sectional last year, but their rebuilding process sees them start their playoff campaign early in a play-in game against Vernon Hills. The Cougars seek their third win of the season, while the Pirates hope their late-season improvement can carry them to the next round for a rematch of last year's sectional final against McHenry.

KEEP AN EYE ON:

5:45pm Mundelein at Highland Park

Like Palatine above, the Mustangs would have never expected to be fighting for a chance to play in the quarterfinal round. If they hope to advance, they'll have to go on the road to take on Highland Park, who makes their first solo playoff appearance this decade after splitting from Deerfield in 2012. Can Garret Lessem and company steal a win from Mundelein, or will Jakub Sierzputowski and the Mustangs' defense get a chance to face rival and top-seeded Stevenson on in the quarterfinals?

GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

5:45pm Bradley at Lincoln-Way West

Two teams with plenty of potential to pull a first-round upset square off in New Lenox for the chance to play top-seeded Lincoln-Way Central in the quarterfinal round. The teams split the season series in 2012; the Warriors won 12-5 in late March and the Boilers returned the favor with an 8-6 victory two weeks ago. Who will win the rubber match in the first game of the 2012 playoffs?
