2012 Sectional Center

The sectional playoffs have come to a dramatic end! Check the 2012 Sectional Center for scores, game recaps and all updates all throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for the All-Sectional Teams, which will be announced later in the week and posted in each sectional page.


 

GAME RECAPS (Saturday, May 12)

 

 

 

GLENBROOK SOUTH SECTIONAL

(1) Loyola 10 (2) New Trier 9

Charlie Dowdle scored 4 goals and Brendan Hulseman notched 2 scores as Loyola held on to beat New Trier 10-9 to advance to the state tournament. Robbie O'Connor also made 12 saves, including a stop at the end of regulation to deny the Trevians a chance to send the game to overtime. Stauder and Dowdle scored two consecutive goals for the Ramblers in the final period to break an 8-8 tie, and New Trier's rally attempt came up one goal short after O'Connor's last-second save. Jordan Palmer scored 5 times and both Jason Bartha and Nate Urban added 2 scores in the loss for the Trevians.

 

 

LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL SECTIONAL

(1) Lockport 10 (3) Homewood-Flossmoor 9

Dan Oldendorf and Dave Hir both scored 3 goals as the Porters held off H-F 10-9 to advance to the state tournament for the first time in team history. Lockport held a 9-6 advantage at halftime, only needing one second-half goal to keep the Vikings at bay. Zack Peterson totaled 6 goals, Kevin Kuchta netted 3 scores, and Jakobi McClellan saved 12 shots in the losing cause for H-F.

 

 

METEA VALLEY SECTIONAL

(1) Naperville North 13 (2) Naperville Central 8

Eric Curia recorded 8 goals and Michael Shabel totaled 11 saves and 3 assists as the Huskies held off a tough challenge from Naperville Central to earn a 13-8 win and qualify for state for the first time since 2007. Adam Nyland added 2 scores in the win for North. Matt Reasons and TJ Johnson both recorded 3 goals for the Redhawks.

 

 

PALATINE SECTIONAL

(1) Stevenson 16 (2) McHenry 15

Alex Shkiler scored 4 times, Chris Hodges, Kyle Plotsky, and Mitchell Sokolsky each netted 3 scores, and Robbie O'Brien made 12 saves as Stevenson held off McHenry 16-15 to return to the state tournament after a brief hiatus. Remy Dalloul also notched 2 scores in the Patriots' win. Dylan Clohessy recorded 9 goals, including a penalty shot in the final minute that cut the Stevenson lead to one goal, but the victors were able to run out the clock on their final possession. Robbie Schwerdtfeger put in 4 goals and Lucas Matthys scored 3 times in the Warriors' loss. Wyatt Schroeder also totaled 7 saves for McHenry.

 

 

SCHAUMBURG SECTIONAL

(1) Fremd 6 (2) Schaumburg 2

Andre Degla and Ryan Helsdingen each scored 2 times and Max Plichta recorded 14 saves as Fremd beat Schaumburg 6-2 to advance to the state tournament. JP French and Luke Stark notched the other goals for the victorious Vikings. Marty Kwiatkowski and Randy Carr each tallied one score in the loss for the Saxons.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

(1) Sandburg 11 (2) Stagg 10

Sandburg put together a dramatic 4-0 run in the final quarter to grab an 11-10 come-from-behind win over Stagg. Trailing 9-7, Stephen Zieler and Matt Veldman each scored successive goals to tie the game with three minutes left in regulation. Anthony Bonnar put the Eagles ahead 10-7 and Veldman added an insurance goal at the 1:35 mark to put Sandburg ahead 11-9. The Chargers scored a late goal to cut the lead to one, but the Eagles were able to run the clock out and advance to the state tournament for the fourth time in five years. Veldman led Sandburg with 3 goals, while Bonnar, Zieler, Kevin Tunney, and Mike O'Malley each netted 2 scores in the winning effort. Ryan Peterson and Juan Valdez combined to score 7 goals and Jihad Ramadan made 11 saves in the loss for the Chargers.

 

 

UIC SECTIONAL

(1) Latin 14 (2) St Ignatius 10

Jacob Himmel scored 6 goals and Latin used a 4-1 run to start the second half to pull away from Ignatius and qualify for state with a 14-10 victory. The Romans' run helped them increase an 8-7 halftime lead to a more comfortable 12-8 advantage, but the Wolfpack's Brayden Amendola scored 2 straight goals at the start of the final period to narrow the gap to 12-10. Latin responded with 2 quick goals of their own, then held the Wolfpack scoreless for the final five minutes to earn the win. Amendola recorded 5 goals, Tym Zymon made 9 saves, and Angus Tam, Billy Barth, Jaime Juarez and Jesus Juarez each scored once in the losing effort for SICP.

 

 

YORK SECTIONAL

(2) Lyons 8 (1) Fenwick 7

Joe Shannon scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final period and the LT defense held Fenwick scoreless for the last 3:44 of the contest to earn an 8-7 win on Saturday at the York Sectional.

Shannon and Kovas Zygas both recorded 3 goals as LT outscored Fenwick 6-3 in the second half and 4-1 in the last quarter to earn the comeback win. Dan Kelly and Matt Farmer both scored 3 goals in the loss for the Friars.

 


 

 

GLENBROOK SOUTH SECTIONAL

(1) New Trier 15 (2) Loyola 9

Isabelle Baneaux tallied 6 goals and Erika Nothnagel chipped in with 3 scores as New Trier jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opener quarter and never looked back in beating Loyola 15-9. Hannah Caywood totaled 17 saves in the Trevians victory. Marta Considine scored 4 times and Katie Lynch netted 3 goals in the loss for the Ramblers.

 

 

LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL SECTIONAL

(1) Lincoln-Way Central 5 (3) Homewood-Flossmoor 4

Caroline Foglton made 9 saves and a strong team effort on the defensive end helped LWC emerge with a 5-4 win over H-F. Foglton assisted Danijela Jackovich on the game-winning goal in the final quarter, while the Knights' defense kept H-F off the scoreboard for the final six minutes to secure the narrow win. The victory sent the Knights to the state tournament for the the first time in team history. Jackovich tallied 4 scores and Beth Senese added the other goal for Central.

 

 

METEA VALLEY SECTIONAL

(1) Naperville Central 18 (3) Metea Valley 3

Abbey Kerth scored 5 goals and Emily Sejna added 3 scores in Naperville Central's 18-3 win over Metea Valley on Saturday. Gracie May and Jenny Doyle both added 2 goals and Julia Campbell made 12 saves in the Redhawks' victory. Alex Conti, Leah Hummel, and Katelyn Apple each notched one score apiece in the Mustangs' loss.

 

 

PALATINE SECTIONAL

(1) Stevenson 10 (2) Wheeling 4

Erin McCook totaled 6 goals and Lisa Michalowski made 15 saves in Stevenson's 10-4 win over Wheeling.

Alex Kanaris, Brittany Gartenberg, Cami Haas, and Tori St. John all scored once in win for the Patriots. Leah Malsom scored 2 times and Keara Myatt made 7 saves in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

 

SCHAUMBURG SECTIONAL

(1) Fremd 11 (2) Barrington 3

Lauren Zambelli registered 3 goals and Sam del Prado totaled 2 scores, 4 assists, and drew 4 ejections as Fremd toppled Barrington 11-3 to win the Schaumburg Sectional. Julie Conrath also made 18 saves in the Vikings' win. Lisa Danhauer recorded 2 goals and Brooke Fanslow made 14 saves in the loss for the Fillies.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

(1) Mother McAuley 15 (3) Sandburg 8

Clare Bryar recorded 6 goals and Kristen Kleist tacked on 4 scores as Mother McAuley earned a 15-8 win over Sandburg in the Stagg Sectional final. Amy Kopale and Vicky Arciniega both notched 2 scores and Sarah Abbott blocked 17 shots in the Mighty Macs' state-qualifying victory. Jamie Pappanastos registered 5 scores in the losing effort for the Eagles.

 

 

UIC SECTIONAL

(1) St Ignatius 10 (2) Lane 7

The Wolfpack put together a strong defensive effort and used a balanced scoring attack to get past Lane 10-7 to advance to the state tournament for the eighth time in nine years.

 

 

YORK SECTIONAL

(2) Fenwick 7 (1) Lyons 6 (2 OT)

Cara Borkovec scored 4 goals and assisted Haley Wickham on the game-winning goal as Fenwick edged Lyons 7-6 in sudden-death overtime after a dramatic back-and-forth sectional final at York. Wickham's goal came after the Friars' won the swimoff to begin the period. Colleen and Maureen Barron each added one score apiece in the winning effort for the Friars. Lizzy Kosin scored 3 goals and Kirby Kaptur tallied 2 goals in the loss for the Lions.
