In the second quarter, Witt and Veldman traded goals and the defenses finished out a strong first half as the Phoenix led the Eagles 4-3 at halftime. In the third period, Roberts and Veldman both scored 2 times apiece as North stayed ahead of the Eagles by a goal (6-5) with seven minutes remaining. The Eagles eventually tied the score with four minutes to play as Niemeier and Veldman tallied goals, but VanSwol's goal put the Phoenix ahead 8-7 and Witt added an insurance goal to send LWN to the semifinal round on Friday.

Semifinals

(1) Homewood-Flossmoor 11 (4) Lincoln-Way North 10

Alex Diorio and Russell Maanum both scored in the opening period for H-F, but Cody Van Etten notched a first period goal and Nick Roberts tied the game at 2-2 as the horn sounded to end the first period. Jake Roberts scored on LWN's first chance of the second quarter to give the Phoenix a 3-2 lead, but Shay Banton evened the game at 3-3 and Kevin Kuchta put the Vikings back in front 4-3 late in the first half. LWN grabs a goal before the break to send the game to halftime tied at 4-4.

In the second half, Banton and Nick Roberts traded goals as the score remained tied, then Jake Bodnar made a big stop on a LWN breakaway chance. On the other end, Diorio added his second goal of the game to put the Vikings ahead 6-5, but Kyler VanSwol and Nick Roberts scored consecutive goals to put the Phoenix back in front 7-6. Kuchta tallied his second goal late in the period to get the Vikings even, then Banton scored with one second left in the quarter to put H-F ahead 8-7 with seven minutes remaining.

Luke Dobben gave the Vikings a two-goal cushion with the first goal of the final period, but VanSwol drew an ejection, scored his second goal of the contest, then added another score on the next possession for the Phoenix to bring the game to a 9-9 tie midway through the last quarter.

Alec Wojack scored an early goal for the Vikings in the final period to give them a 10-9 advantage, but Van Etten connected on the game-tying goal in a pressure-filled final period. Banton, who totaled 4 goals to lead the Vikings, scored on an outside side late in the final period and the goal holds up as Homewood-Flossmoor advances to the sectional finals with an 11-10 victory over Lincoln-Way North.

(2) Lincoln-Way Central vs (6) Lincoln-Way East

Kenny Hultquist and Ryan Rys both scored early goals to give LWE a 2-0 lead, but Jacob Bernard cut the Griffins' lead in half with a goal late in the opening period. After an ejection, Brandon Spratt put the Griffins ahead 3-1, but Joe Caffarini found Dave Smith open, and his goal cut the advantage down to 3-2 late in the first half. Before the break, Ryan Stuart added a goal for LWE as they had built a 4-2 lead at halftime.

In the third period, Hultquist added his second goal to put the Griffins' in front 5-2. The Griffins' defense held the Knights without a goal in the quarter, as they remained in front by three goals as the teams entered the final period. Steve Walczak increased the LWE lead to 6-2 with his first goal, but Petar Jackovich tried to keep the Knights within striking distance with his first goal of the contest. It was all for naught, however, as Hultquist recorded his third goal of the fixture and the Griffins' defense did the rest as LWE advanced to the sectional finals with a 7-3 win over LWC.

H-F came out first against LWE, scoring five straight goals to take a 5-0 lead after one period of play. Russell Maanum and Shay Banton each had 2 goals and Kevin Kuchta added one score in the opening frame.

There was no letup from the Vikings in the second quarter, as Kuchta notched his second goal early in the period and then assisted Luke Dobben on a goal midway through the second. Banton connected on a goal and the Vikings started the game on fire, building an 8-0 first half lead.

Banton scored on a rebound goal early in the third period and Maanum scored his third goal on a breakaway to make the score 10-0 midway through the period. Brandon Spratt put the Griffins on the board at the 2:30 mark, then Steve Swiercz added a second goal to cut the Vikings' lead to 10-2. Banton tallied his fifth goal at the end of the third quarter and H-F held onto an 11-2 lead.
