Gabi Cabrera tallied 8 goals and both Sydney Burdin and Yadi Casimiro scored 2 times to help Young advance to the second round of the UIC Sectional with a 17-3 decision over Von Steuben.
Friday, May 14
Semifinals
(1) St Ignatius 13 (4) Lane 7
Kate Stelnicki scored 5 times as the Wolpack battled back from an early 3-2 deficit to defeat Lane 13-7 on Friday night.
(2) Latin 7 (3) Young 5
The low-scoring affair between Young and Latin also went back and forth and the Dolphins eventually pulled away from the Romans to secure a 7-5 win in the second semifinal at the UIC Sectional. Young started out strong, building a 2-0 lead, but Latin ran off four straight goals to claim a 4-2 lead by the middle of the second quarter. The Dolphins had a quick response, as Gabi Cabrera, Yadi Casimiro, and Susana Zizumbo each tallied goals during a 3-0 run that put Young on top 5-4 at halftime. The Dolphins' defense was the key in the second half, as they held Latin without a goal until the final minute of the fourth period, in which Young had already bulit a 7-4 lead. Cabrera and Zizumbo both scored 3 times and Casimiro scored the other goal in the win for the Dolphins.

Celeste Almarez scored 5 goals to lead St Ignatius to a 13-5 victory over Young in the final game of the UIC Sectional on Saturday afternoon.
