GAME PREVIEWS (Tuesday, April 23)

MATCH OF THE DAY I

6:00pm #1 Lyons at #2 Naperville North

The Lions and Huskies continue their newfound rivalry on Tuesday night in Naperville; LT knocked North out of last year's postseason with an 8-4 win and also beat the Huskies 6-5 back in Week 2 at the Fenwick Tournament. Can the hosts get one over on the defending champions, or will the Lions continue rolling towards the postseason?

MATCH OF THE DAY II

6:00pm #13 St Ignatius at #8 Stevenson

The Patriots play host to St Ignatius in a battle of top seeds in next month's sectional playoffs; if things pan out, both squads could be playing in the state quarterfinals in this same pool in three weeks time.

OTHER KEY GAMES

5:00pm #35 Andrew at #18 LWN

5:30pm #30 Hoffman at #20 Palatine

5:45pm #11 Conant at #37 Schaumburg

6:30pm #21 Lake Forest at #3 Fenwick

GAME PREVIEWS (Tuesday, April 23)

MATCH OF THE DAY I

4:30pm #3 Mother McAuley at #10 Naperville Central

The Mighty Macs travel to Naperville to take on the Redhawks in a nonconference contest between two teams gearing up for another run at a state tournament berth. Central won last year's event 12-3 and knocked the Macs out of the postseason in the state quarterfinals, but Mother McAuley is coming off an impressive performance at the Stevenson Tournament and would like nothing more than to get a bit of revenge in Central's home pool.

MATCH OF THE DAY II

5:00pm #2 St Ignatius at #6 Stevenson

The Wolfpack head to Lincolnshire to take on the Patriots in a rematch of St Ignatius' 24-11 victory over the hosts in Week 5 at the Fenwick Tournament. Can the Patriots earn a bit of revenge over the second-ranked Wolfpack, or will Becky Insalaco and company earn another win over a Top 10 team?

MATCH OF THE DAY III

5:30pm #17 Fremd at #12 Barrington

The Fillies have already clinched the MSL West title, but they can finish the 2013 campaign with a perfect record in the conference if they can get by the Vikings for the second time this season. The Vikings and Fillies are the top two teams in the Fremd Sectional two weeks from now, so this could serve as a preview of a sectional final as well.

OTHER KEY GAMES

5:00pm #35 H-F at #5 LWC

5:00pm #30 LWE at #23 Lockport

5:00pm #13 LWN at #26 Andrew

6:00pm #11 Naperville North at #14 Lyons

GAME RECAPS (Tuesday, April 23)

MATCH OF THE DAY I

Mother McAuley 9 Naperville Central 3

Clare Bryar recorded 4 goals and Fran Williamson netted 2 scores as Mother McAuley went on the road to beat Naperville Central 9-3. Emily Bowens, Kristen Kleist, and Vicky Arciniega each scored one goal in the Mighty Macs' victory. Kristina Altuve scored 2 goals and Leslie Calabrese added one score in the loss for the Redhawks. Quarterly updates:

QUARTER 1

Clare Bryar scored two times to give the Mighty Macs a one goal lead at the conclusion of the first period. Leslie Calabrese scored the lone goal of the first frame for the Redhawks. Bryar's goal came after Kristen Kleist made a perimeter steal on the hosts' first possession and led Bryar with a lofted pass that she slotted into the right corner. Calabrese tied the game soon after, taking a pass from Madison Nervig and scoring from five meters out. Central goalie Erin Reagan made two key saves in the next two minutes, the second coming on Meg Golon's attempt from close range. McAuley's Sarah Abbott returned the favor with a crucial save on the other end on a seven meter attempt by Michelle Spaits. Late in the period, Fran Williamson found Bryar open at seven meters, and she connected on a shot to the left corner to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

QUARTER 2

The defenses clamped down in the second period, with neither team able to score through the first five minutes of play. The best chance came from Central's Calabrese, who just missed from five meters. In the last minute of the half, Calabrese drew a penalty, but Abbott elevated and tipped the penalty shot attempt away from goal to preserve the one goal advantage. With time winding down in the half, Bryar scored from nine meters at the buzzer, giving McAuley a 3-1 halftime lead.

QUARTER 3

Sarah Abbott made a save early in the period and assisted Fran Williamson on a goal from five meters to give McAuley a 4-1 lead. Midway through the quarter, Abbott made another key save and found Vicky Arciniega wide open on the other end of the pool; she had no problem lobbing over the Central goalie to make the score 5-1. Calabrese had the best chance of the quarter for the Redhawks, but her tip attempt at two meters went just over the crossbar. On the other end, Kleist scored her first goal from five meters after an ejection, then Bryar scored her second straight end-of-the-period goal to increase the McAuley lead to 7-1

QUARTER 4

The Redhawks inched closer to McAuley after Kristina Altuve scored in the first minute of the final period. The Mighty Macs responded when Amy Kopale assisted Emily Bowens after working a 2-on-1 in front of the Central goal. Altuve connected on her second goal of the period with a lob from outside seven meters and near poolside. Reagan then denied two close range chances for McAuley, but Central couldn't score in the final two minutes and Williamson added a last minute goal for the Mighty Macs, who earned the 9-3 road victory.
