Week 5 Ballers

 

BOYS

Alex Lavery/Kevin Obrecht/Thomas Cozzi (Oak Park)

Cozzi and Lavery each registered 11 goals and Obrecht stopped 42 shots to help the Huskies end the week with wins over Young and Hinsdale South and a key win at the Lyons Tournament.

 

Alex Marlott/Nik Miklyukh (York)

Marlott tallied 10 scores and Miklyukh scored 6 times as the Dukes beat Loyola and St Ignatius to finish with a 2-1 record at the Lyons Tournament.

 

Armin Korsos/Cameron Cowan/Victor Perez (Lyons)

Perez scored 11 goals, Korsos scored 10 goals and Cowan went 3-0 and allowed just six goals per game as the Lions won their own event over the weekend. Perez and Korsos also paired up to score 8 goals in a midweek win over Hinsdale Central.

 

Derek Warnstedt/Mitch Thompson (Fremd)

Warnnstedt totaled 9 goals and Thompson stopped 27 shots in the Vikings' wins over Hersey and Schaumburg during Week 5.

 

Henry Yavitt (New Trier)

Yavitt led the Trevians with 14 goals as New Trier won the NN Tournament after beating Sandburg, Stagg and the hosts. The senior also totaled 7 goals in a pair of wins over GBS and Niles West during the week.

 

Jonah Smith/Michael Matusek/Riley Hedberg (McHenry)

Matusek totaled 11 goals while Hedberg and Smith each put in 10 scores as the Warriors won the Lake Forest Tournament with wins over the hosts, Jones-Payton and Lane.

 

John Merucci/Quinn Carr (Loyola)

Merucci scored 12 goals and Carr made 32 saves at the Lyons Tournament as the Ramblers finished the event with a 2-1 mark.

 

Marty Blake/Nick Jackson (Sandburg)

Blake scored 12 goals to help the Eagles claim a second place finish at the Naperville North Tournament while Jackson made 45 saves to help Sandburg finish with a 4-1 record during the week.

 

Mason Schmidt/Scott Spinazola (Hinsdale Central)

Schmidt and Spinazola both helped lead the Red Devils to a 2-1 finish at the GBS Tournament after wins over Warren and the hosts.

 

Nick Oleinik (Mundelein)

OIeinik recorded 14 goals as the Mustangs earned victories over BG, Libertyville and McHenry during Week 5.

 

Noah Groll/Payton Comstock (Fenwick)

Groll drilled the game-winning shot in the Friars' 7-6 win over #1 SLUH (MO) and scored 7 goals at the DeSmet Invitational while Comstock led the Friars' offensive attack with 9 goals to help Fenwick finish in second place at the event.

 

Sam Orlin (Latin)

Orlin totaled 7 goals in a pair of wins over Juarez and Maine West as the Romans improved to 4-1 in 2017.

 

 

GIRLS

Abbie Lukas/Jessica Peterson (Mundelein)

Lukas totaled 9 goals and Peterson netted 5 scores to help the Mustangs beat Libertyville and Niles West during Week 5.

 

Alex Cerra/Anna Scovill/Gabby DuVal (Metea Valley)

Cerra scored 3 goals to help the Mustangs get past Niles West, Scovill and DuVal combined to score 9 times in a 14-4 win over Fremd and all three helped Metea Valley win the Fremd Tourney over the weekend.

 

Annika Moore/Hanna Good/Kaysie Stuba (Lyons)

Stuba scored 16 goals, Good notched 11 scores and Moore totaled 7 goals, 10 steals and 8 assists as the Lions earned wins over HC, Loyola and Naperville North and a draw with Fenwick during Week 4.

 

Becky Schofield/Paulina Correa (Mother McAuley)

Correa notched 20 scores, Schofield scored 12 times and McKendry made 58 saves as the Mighty Macs earned single wins over Bremen, Naperville Central, New Trier and a pair of victories over Naperville North during Week 5. Schofield also scored 5 goals and McKendry made 8 saves in a 10-7 loss to Stevenson in the virtual title game of the Fenwick Tournament on Saturday.

 

Colleen Doyle/Gracie Dix/Mary Clare McAleer (Prospect)

Dix scored 19 goals, Doyle notched 14 scores and McAleer made 56 saves to help the Knights go 5-0 during Week 6 with wins over Bradley, Conant, Elk Grove, Maine East and Palatine.

 

Emily VanGrinsven/Katie Lindgren/Madison Burkhalter (Hersey)

Burkhalter scored 11 goals and Lindgren scored 9 times as the Huskies won their own tournament on Saturday and went 5-0 during Week 5. VanGrinsven, who made 30 saves in pair of wins over Fremd and Wheeling, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Hersey Shindig along with Lindgren.

 

Giselle Figueroa/Lauren Hays/Riley Hughes (Evanston)

Figueroa scored 8 goals and both Hays and Hughes scored 4 times as the Wildkits won the GBS Tournament on Saturday. Figueroa also scored 5 times in a midweek win over Maine South.

 

Hannah Pearson/Sidney Rosenblum (Schaumburg)

Pearson and Rosenblum each scored 7 goals in the Saxons' victories over Fremd and Wheeling during Week 5. Rosenblum also connected on the game-winning goal in the team's 17-16 win over Fremd.

 

Jasmin Guzman/Jenny Ascencion/Samantha Aguirre (Morton)

Aguirre and Guzman both scored 7 goals and Ascencion put in 5 goals as Morton finished in second place at the Hersey Shindig. All three were named to the event's All-Tournament Team while Ascencion was named Tournament MVP. Guzman also scored 9 times in Morton's win over Solorio earlier in the week.

 

Kristen Burger (Maine West)

Burger scored 15 goals in a pair of wins over Maine East and Maine South during the week and was named Tournament MVP on Saturday as the Warriors finished in second place at the Deerfield Tournament.

 

Eileen Hoang/Fiona Gaffney/Lauren Maloney (Stevenson)

Hoang totaled 7 goals, 7 assists and 5 kickouts drawn, Maloney scored 10 goals and chipped in with 9 assists and Gaffney scored 6 times and totaled 11 assists as Stevenson won the Mike Murphy Tournament at Fenwick over the weekend.

 

Emily Kini (Fremd)

Kini recorded 15 goals as the Vikings placed second at their own tournament on Saturday and added 9 goals against Hersey and Schaumburg earlier in the week.

 

Emily Westlove (Naperville Central)

Westlove tallied 15 scores to help the Redhawks finish in third place at the Fenwick Tournament over the weekend.

 

Grace Donahue (Lake Forest)

Donahue poured in 8 goals to lead the Scouts past BG 9-8 in overtime on Thursday night.
