Week 8 Ballers

 

BOYS

Adam McGovern (Neuqua Valley)

McGovern scored 13 goals to help the Wildcats finish the Conant Tournament with a 3-1 record. He also registered 7 scores in an overtime loss to #8 York earlier in the week.

 

Alec Lawson (Conant)

Lawson led a strong defensive effort as the Cougars limited opponents to just 14 goals as they won their own event with wins over Libertyville, LWC, Maine West and Sandburg.

 

Alex Marlott/Parker Hicks (York)

Marlott recorded 18 goals and Hicks scored 14 times as the Dukes won their own tournament on Saturday and claimed wins over Neuqua Valley and Palatine during the week. Marlott also assisted Hicks on the game-tying goal and both players scored in overtime in a 13-11 win over Neuqua Valley.

 

Alex Smith/Matt Flanders/Tyler Flanders (Metea Valley)

Smith led the Mustangs with 5 goals in a 7-5 win over the hosts and added 3 scores in an 11-4 win over Bradley to help the Mustangs win the STC North Tournament. Matt and Tyler combined to score 5 goals as well in the win over Bradley and also contributed heavily on both ends of the pool in a pair of victories over Hersey and STC North.

 

Andrew Shashin (Stevenson)

Shashin scored 23 goals during Week 8 as the Patriots beat Fenwick, Loyola, Lyons, New Trier, SICP and Palatine.

 

Ben Mars/Josh Grella (Sandburg)

Mars led the Eagles' offense with 5 goals in a 14-6 win over Stagg while Grella tallied 3 scores in a 10-9 victory over Andrew in pair of key SWSC contests.

 

Cole Maizel (New Trier)

Maizel allowed less than 5 goals per game at the Stevenson Tournament as the Trevians finished the event with a 3-1 record and a second place finish.

 

Danilo Scekic (New Trier)

Scekic led the Trevians with 14 goals as they finished in second place at the Stevenson Tournament with wins over Brother Rice, Fenwick and Naperville Central.

 

David Francisco/Payton Comstock (Fenwick)

Comstock totaled 14 goals and Francisco allowed just 5 goals per game as Fenwick went 2-2 at the Stevenson Tournament after a pair of wins over Brother Rice and Loyola and two one-goal losses to #2 New Trier and #3 Naperville Central.

 

Eric Osuch/Justin Ginsberg (Stevenson)

Osuch and Ginsberg both scored 2 key goals in Stevenson's 10-6 win over Fenwick on Wednesday; both players also put in 3 goals as the Patriots defeated #2 New Trier 10-8 to win their own tournament over the weekend.

 

Ethan Hamp (Von Steuben)

Hamp recorded 17 goals in a pair of games against Hinsdale South and Latin during Week 8.

 

Joe Muehlschlegel (STC North)

Muehlschlegel recorded 26 saves to help the North Stars finish 2-1 at their own event on Saturday. He also made 7 saves in a midweek win over Warren.

 

Mason Maze/Matt Klock/Ryan Burke (LWC)

Maze totaled 14 goals, Klock scored 10 times and Burke led the defense with 9 steals as the Knights finished 3-1 at the Conant Tournament on Saturday. Klock also led the Knights with 5 goals in a 7-5 win over Bradley earlier in the week.

 

Sam Orlin/Tucker Jones (Latin)

Jones registered 20 goals and Orlin scored 18 times as the Romans went 4-1 during Week 8. The squad finished second at the York Tournament after a pair of wins over Maine East and Young and also earned wins over Lane and Von Steuben earlier in the week.

 

Tommy Witek (Stagg)

Witek poured in 9 goals to lead the Chargers to a 13-11 win over Lockport during Week 8.

 

Travis Tanner (H-F)

Tanner totaled 6 goals and drew 3 ejections in the Vikings' 10-4 victory over Andrew.

 

 

 

GIRLS

Abbie Lukas/Carolyn Westgate (Mundelein)

Lukas scored 6 goals and Westgate totaled 6 steals as the Mustangs defeated Fremd 11-8.

 

Alli Hansen/Rylee Brower (Naperville Central)

Brower and Hansen combined to score 8 goals to help the Redhawks beat Fremd 18-5 while the duo combined to make 10 steals in an 8-4 victory over #2 Mother McAuley during Week 8. Brower also scored 3 goals in the win over the Mighty Macs.

 

Claire Rich/Hannah Turner/Katie Steele (STC North)

Steele scored 5 times, Turner netted 4 scores and Rich made 12 saves and earned a shutout as the North Stars earned wins over Conant and Palatine during Week 8.

 

Brooke Pair/Eliza Sykes (H-F)

Pair registered 6 scores and Sykes made 11 saves in the Vikings' 13-6 triumph over Andrew.

 

Elizabeth Shumaker/Veronica Hernandez (Young)

Shumaker scored 8 goals and Hernandez tallied 7 scores as the Dolphins finished in second place at the York Tourney.

 

Julia Nicholson (Stevenson)

Nicholson played a key role in the Patriots' 3-1 finish at the Hudsonville Tournament and has played a vital role in the success of the state's top-ranked team in 2017.

 

Maggie Goodwin (Meadows)

Goodwin totaled 6 goals in a 7-4 conference win over Buffalo Grove and also helped the Mustangs claim a second-place finish at the STC East Tournament.

 

Nicole McCabe (LWC)

McCabe registered 4 scores in the Knights' 13-10 win over Bradley.

 

Sophia Brouwer (Loyola)

Brouwer totaled 7 goals to lead the Ramblers to a 9-8 win over Barrington.
