MONDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Brother Rice 14 St Ignatius 12 (OT)

Mike Mulcrone scored 7 goals, Nick Joslyn added 3 scores, and Kevin Mayer scored 2 goals in overtime to help lift Brother Rice past St Ignatius 14-12 on Monday night. The Wolfpack used a 3-0 run in the final quarter to send the game to extra time, but Rice put the game away with two goals in each overtime period to earn the two-goal win. Crusaders' goalie Mike Pufunt also had a big game, as he stopped 16 shots in the win. Brayden Amendola and Mark Alvarado both scored 4 goals in the loss for Ignatius.

 

Curie 17 Juarez 4

Eduardo Chavez scored 6 goals to help lift Curie to a 17-4 win over Juarez in CPD action. Six other players recorded goals in the win for the Condors.

 

Fenwick 25 St Rita 7

Matt Farmer recorded 6 goals and 5 assists while both Connor Brown and DJ Gallo scored 5 goals apiece in Fenwick's 25-7 victory over St Rita in Catholic League play on Monday evening.

 

Loyola 31 Mt Carmel 2

Tyler St Germain scored 4 goals, John Groden added 3 scores, and 11 other players recorded goals for Loyola as they knocked off Mt Carmel 31-2 on Monday.

 

St Viator 9 St Patrick 8

Gregg O'Connor and Peter Cleary each scored 3 goals and Ryan Boyer scores 2 times to lead St Viator to a 9-8 win over St Patrick. Justin Imhoff added a goal for the Lions, while Robert Bansfield stopped 17 shots in the victory. Andrew Morun, Jack Smollen, and Peter Blume each recorded 2 scores for the Shamrocks, while Luke O'Callaghan made 10 saves in the losing effort.

 

Wheeling 8 Glenbrook North 3

Andy Eiter and Chris Prelletz each scored 2 goals as Wheeling jumped out to a 4-0 lead over GBN by halftime and held on for an 8-3 win on Monday. The Spartans cut the lead to 6-3 at the end of the third quarter after Sean Kincaid scored 2 goals and Gleb Medvedev added one score. But the Wildcats tacked on two more scores in the final period and held GBN scoreless the rest of the way to earn the victory. Andry Klyuka, Ben Reiff, Dan Shriber, and Jaron Witt each added one score in the win for Wheeling.


GIRLS

Fenwick 6 Loyola 3

Annie Collins registered 3 goals in Fenwick's 6-3 victory over Loyola in a MCAC contest on Monday night.

 

Libertyville 7 Conant 1

Kaitlin Liss and Meghan Ahlgrim each scored 2 goals and the Libertyville defense did not allow a goal until the third quarter en route to a 7-1 victory over Conant. Katie Varga scored the lone goal in the loss for the Cougars.

 

Prospect 12 Elk Grove 3

Meg Dix scored 5 goals and both Jessica Cavaiani and Lisa Mazur recorded 2 scores in Prospect's 12-3 win over Elk Grove. Carly Corrigan, Kallie Shields, and Kasey Mika also chipped in with one goal apiece for the Knights.

 

Richards 11 Maria 1

Lisa Gorski scored 3 times as Richards defeated Maria 11-1 in nonconference play on Monday.

 

St Ignatius 10 Mother McAuley 6

Stephanie Fernandez scored 3 goals to lead a balanced offensive attack for St Ignatius in a 10-6 victory over Mother McAuley. Kate Stelnicki, Rebecca Insalaco, and Tammy Stelnicki each recorded 2 scores, while Meghan Murphy added one goal in the Wolfpack's third win of the season.

 

St Viator 12 Resurrection 10

Eileen Mallof scored 6 goals and Melanie Battaglia added 4 scores in St Viator's 12-10 win over Resurrection. Maddie Nelson tallied 8 scores in the loss for the Bandits.

 

Vernon Hills 16 Maine South 11

Dana Andrea scored 6 times and Anna Lebiedzinski added 4 scores as Vernon Hills earned their first win of the season over Maine South, outscoring the Hawks 16-11. Ellie Silver and Kristen Schrems each added 2 scores in the victory, while Gena Lopez stopped 9 shots in goal for the Cougars.

MATCH OF THE DAY

St Ignatius at Brother Rice (6:30pm) - The Wolfpack (6-0) face another difficult test when they head to Brother Rice (1-0) to take on the Crusaders in a Catholic League showdown on Monday night.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

St Viator at St Patrick (6:00pm) - The Lions and Shamrocks will get a better sense of where they stand in the Metro Catholic Athletic Conference when they square off in Chicago on Monday.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Loyola at Fenwick (6:30pm) - The Friars get their season underway in difficult fashion, as they host Loyola in Oak Park on Monday.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

McAuley at Ignatius (5:00pm) - The Wolfpack play host to McAuley in another highly anticipated early season matchup in the MCAC.
