THURSDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Conant 9 Buffalo Grove 8

Eight players tallied goals for Conant as they held off Buffalo Grove 9-8 on Thursday.

 

Foreman 17 Morgan Park 13

John Adams totaled 10 goals to lead Foreman to a 17-13 victory over Morgan Park in a CPS contest on Thursday evening.

 

Hoffman 9 Hersey 8

Mike Christen recorded 4 goals and Sang M. Han added 2 scores to lead Hoffman to a 9-8 win over Hersey on Thursday. Logan Gizel also made 12 blocks in the win for the Hawks.

 

Glenbrook South 17 Maine West 1

Igor Gryniv totaled 7 goals and drew four ejections and goalie Tom Meyer stopped 12 shots and made 7 steals as Glenbrook South defeated Maine West 17-1.

 

Lincoln-Way West 18 Shepard 10

Ray Zulanas scored 6 goals and Lukas Grekavicius added 4 scores to help Lincoln-Way West earn their first win in program history, an 18-10 decision over Shepard. Alex Bromley, Parker Niemann, and Zach Shoppen each added 2 scores in the win for the Warriors. Mark Kelly scored 4 times in the loss for Shepard.

 

New Trier 16 Glenbrook North 9

Jordan Palmer and Konrad VonMoltke each scored 3 goals, Jake Eaton drew 10 ejections, and 10 other players recorded one goal apiece as New Trier defeated GBN 16-9 in CSL action on Thursday night.

 

Palatine 18 Prospect 4

Kamil Mulawa totaled 8 goals and 3 assists, Dylan Weissman added 3 scores, and Dan Sommerfield made 8 saves and added 5 assists as Palatine beat Prospect 18-4. Christian Kalfas, John Giuliano, and Justin Behrens also scored 2 goals apiece in the win for the Pirates. Will Schiavone scored 3 times in the loss for the Knights.

 

Stevenson 14 Vernon Hills 7

Hasan Khan recorded 7 goals and Alex Shkiler added 2 scores as Stevenson ran out to a 13-0 lead en route to a 14-7 victory over Vernon Hills. Robbie O'Brien stopped 12 shots and also scored a goal from his own crease in the first half.


GIRLS

Barrington 7 Wheeling 6

Catherine Byron scored 5 goals and goalie Brooke Fanslow made 13 saves as Barrington held off Wheeling 13-12. Fanslow and Chloe Padula also added one score apiece in the Fillies' win. Leah Malsom scored 2 goals and Haylie Moeller stopped 16 shots in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Buffalo Grove 7 Conant 6

Sara Fasching scored 3 goals and the Buffalo Grove defense held Conant on their final scoring chance with one second remaining to eke out a 7-6 victory over the Cougars on Thursday night. Andie Cobb scored 3 times and Jackie Southern scored 2 goalsfor the Cougars, while goalie Lucie Banahan also made 12 saves in the loss.

 

Fremd 15 Elk Grove 2

12 players recorded goals for Fremd in a 15-2 win over Elk Grove on Thursday evening. Emily McCarthy, Sam Matuszewski, and Taylor Spoonholtz each scored 2 times for the Vikings, while the rest of the Fremd scorers included: Amy Ruiz, Carly Gessert , Emily Orlowski, Emma Nielson, Jessica Xenakis, Lauren Zambelli, Megan Kennedy, Sam del Prado, and Sam Kirby. The Grenadiers' Jordan Crocker scored 2 times in the loss.

 

H-F 12 Bremen 6

Rebecca Mathews scored 5 goals and Michelle Mayer added 3 scores as H-F earned a decisive 12-6 victory over Bremen. Mathews scored 4 straight goals in the second quarter to break the game open and give H-F an 8-2 halftime lead that they would never relinquish. Anna Tenny and Hannah Ongman each added one score apiece, while goalie Sophie Schloen made 8 saves for the Vikings. Emma Martinus scored 4 goals and Lauren Stryzek added 2 scores in the loss for the Red Jaguars.

 

Hersey 10 Hoffman 8

Christine Rovani tallied 5 goals to lead Hersey to a narrow 10-8 victory over Hoffman on Thursday. Rachael Gallo totaled 5 goals and 8 steals for Hoffman, while Sharon Sturnfield also scored 3 goals in the loss.

 

Hinsdale Central 13 Stagg 6

Olivia Garrett recorded 5 goals to help lift Hinsdale Central past Stagg 13-6.

 

Lincoln-Way North 12 STC East 3

Megan Wortel, Missy Wortel, and Morgan Parkinson each scored 3 goals to lead Lincoln-Way North to a 12-3 victory over STC East.

 

Lyons 20 Hinsdale South 7

Blair Hopwood recorded 5 goals and Lizzy Kosin added 4 scores to help lead Lyons to a 20-7 victory over Hinsdale South in West Suburban Conference play. Alecia Lewis scored 4 times in the loss for the Hornets.

 

Mundelein 13 Deer Park 5

Amanda Boothe scored 4 goals and Alexis Jones, Alexis Philbrick, Hannah Kalish, and Sarah Honda each added 2 scores as the Mustangs beat Deer Park 13-5. Phoebe del Greco scored 3 times and Mika Hasak added 2 scores in the loss for Deer Park.

 

New Trier 18 Glenbrook North 6

Anna Horstkotte tallied 7 goals and Isabelle Baneaux scored 3 times as New Trier defeated 18-6 over Glenbrook North. Erika Nothnagel also chipped in with 10 steals and 4 assists, while goalie Zaz Saclarides stopped 6 shots in the win for the Trevians.

 

Stevenson 15 Vernon Hills 6

Cami Haas, Cheyenne Montijo, Erin McCook, and Sam Petti all scored 3 times as Stevenson knocked off Vernon Hills 15-6 in the North Suburban Conference opener for both teams. Karen Lowry added 2 scores and Lisa Michalowski made 10 saves in the win. Dana Andrea tallied 4 goals for the Cougars in the loss.

 

Waubonsie 10 Oak Park 3

Alex White scored 4 goals, Kim Palmer added 3 scores, and EB Keeve totaled 15 saves, 7 steals, and 6 assists as Waubonsie Valley defeated Oak Park 10-3 in a nonconference affair in Aurora on Thursday. Lauren Stercay added 2 goals and Michelle Moynihan scored once in the victory. Alison Coogan scored 2 times for the Huskies and Kimmy Stefanik added a goal and 8 steals in the losing effort.

#12 Waubonsie Valley at #2 Oak Park (6:00pm) - The Huskies look to bounce back from an early season loss to Lyons when they play host to Waubonsie Valley on Thursday.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#15 New Trier at Glenbrook North (6:00pm) - The Trevians and Spartans get their respective seasons underway with a Central Suburban League contest.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#2 H-F at #21 Bremen (5:00pm) - Bremen faces another tough early season test when they play host to second-ranked Homewood-Flossmoor on Thursday.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#18 Waubonsie at Oak Park (6:00pm) - The Warriors get their season started against an Oak Park team looking to recover from a first-game loss to top-ranked Lyons.
