The Warriors head north to take on Stevenson as both teams look for a solid late-season win to get their respective squads geared up for a solid postseason run.

The Hawks play host to the North Stars in an intriguing nonconference fixture; both teams are nearing the 20-win mark and a late-season win could be just what one of these teams needs to build momentum for the postseason.

5:00pm #5 Lincoln-Way Central at #9 Sandburg

The Knights face their toughest challenge of the 2013 conference season when they head to Orland Park to take on Sandburg; Central is just two wins away from a perfect season in the SWSC, but the Eagles can even things up at the top of the SWSC Blue division with just one game left to play later this week. The Knights won the first meeting in New Lenox 14-9 during Week 5.

 

 

MSL CHAMPIONSHIP

6:00pm #39 Hersey at #13 Barrington

The Huskies hope to pull off an upset in the Mid-Suburban League championship game after winning the East division in 2013. Meanwhile, the Fillies are looking for their first MSL title since 2007. Both squads went 9-1 in their respective divisions, with Hersey's only loss coming to Wheeling and Barrington's lone blemish coming last week against Fremd.

Stevenson 9 Waubonsie Valley 6

Mitchell Sokolsky recorded 5 goals and Taylor Baretz netted 3 scores as Stevenson outlasted Waubonsie Valley 9-6 in a highly-physical encounter. Mike McWhirter scored 2 times in the loss for the visitors.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Andrew 19 Shepard 7

Nick Brancato totaled 4 goals and 6 steals and Tim Yara blocked 14 shots and added 4 assists as Andrew topped Shepard 19-7. Andrew Wojdyla, Eric Tamulonis, and Shaun Emerson each chipped in with 3 goals for the victors.

 

Maine South 17 STC North 16 (OT)

The Hawks outlasted STC North 17-16 in overtime on Wednesday night in a nonconference tilt; the North Stars overcame a four-goal deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to send the game to extra time before coming up short by a goal. Nick Traxler scored 5 times, Justin Simmonds recorded 4 scores, and Collin Bawolek blocked 19 shots in the loss for North.

 

New Trier 16 Latin 5

John Schulz scored goals and both Ben Sussman and Rudy Chiu tallied 2 scores to help the Trevians beat Latin 16-5 on Wednesday.

 

Sandburg 12 Lincoln-Way Central 5

The Eagles improved to 10-2 and pulled even with both H-F and Lockport in the SWSC Red division with just one game remaining for all three teams. Mike Petrizzo made 11 saves in the loss for the Knights.

 

Stagg 15 Lincoln-Way West 13

Ryan Petersen totaled 9 goals and Peter Krivanec made 11 saves as Stagg defeated LWW 15-13.

 


 

GAME RECAPS (Wednesday, May 1)

 

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY

Sandburg 6 Lincoln-Way Central 4

Brittany Kamper scored 4 times and Alona King blocked 14 shots as Sandburg defeated LWC 6-4. The Eagles went on a 3-0 run in the second half to pull away from the Knights in the low-scoring affair. In the loss, Danijela Jackovich and Kristi Howe each scored 2 times for Central. Both teams are tied with 11-1 conference records heading into the final game of the SWSC season.

 

 

MSL CHAMPIONSHIP

Barrington 8 Hersey 6

Kelly Meckert, Lisa Danhauer, and Sam Gavars each scored 2 goals and both Catherine Byron and Rachel Scardino added one goal as Barrington won the MSL with an 8-6 win over Hersey. Katie Lutz registered 2 goals and Natalie Curtis made 9 saves in the loss for the Huskies.

 

CPS TOURNAMENT

Northside 16 Westinghouse 12

Meghan Quigley poured in 6 goals, Diana Roback, Rebecca Chan, and Tammy Saowapak each notched 3 scores, and Megan Davis blocked 11 shots in Northside's 16-12 triumph over Westinghouse.

 

Whitney Young 14 Payton-Jones 3

Jessie Cronin scored 6 goals, Gabby Chelette and Kennedy Baldwin each put in 2 scores, and Nya Wilkins and Nora Murphy combined to block 10 shots in the Dolphins' 14-3 quarterfinal win over Payton-Jones.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Hinsdale Central 11 STC East 9

Sarah Pircon totaled 6 goals as the Red Devils edged STC East 11-9 on Wednesday.

 

Oak Park 6 Marian 5

Katie Appell scored the game-winning goal with 0:30 left in regulation to lift Oak Park past Marian 6-5 on Wednesday night. Appell totaled 3 goals and Samantha Robbins put in 2 goals in the win for the Huskies. Paige Wieser led the Spartans with 2 goals in the loss.

 

Stevenson 17 Waubonsie Valley 2

Alex Kanaris recorded 4 goals, Melissa Gartenberg totaled 3 scores, and Becky Callen blocked 12 shots as the Patriots downed Waubonsie Valley 17-2. Allison Travetto, Ashley Oliver, and Laura Larsen each registered 2 scores in the Stevenson win.
