QUARTERFINAL #1
LWE 8 New Trier 7 (OT)
Q1: Eli Cohen, Matt Ghiselli &
Nick DiPatri each scored once in the opening period as New Trier
leads LWE 3-2 after Q1. Adam Hudson and Bryce Wyma each scored once
for the Griffins.
Q2: Patrick Rossetto scored the
lone goal of the period after an ejection and a timeout in the final
minute of the half and the teams head to halftime tied at 3-3.
Q3: Ghiselli gave the Trevians a
4-3 lead early in the period, but Rossetto, Wyma and Hudson scored
consecutive goals to give the Griffins a 6-4 advantage heading into
the fourth quarter.
Q4: LWE took a 6-4 lead over New
Trier into the fourth quarter. Matt Ghiselli cut the lead to 6-5
early in the period and that's where things stand with three minutes
left. The Griffins' held the Trevians at bay into the final minute.
New Trier gets the ball with 0:20 left and calls timeout trailing by
a goal. Nick DiPatri scored from set with :07 left in regulation to
tie the score at 6-6 as New Trier & LWE will head to overtime with a
state semifinal spot on the line!
OT: Hudson strikes first for
East at the 2:02 mark of the first overtime period. Neither team can
convert for the rest of the first overtime but the Griffins drew an
ejection that will carry over into the second overtime period. The
Griffins won the swim-off, called timeout, and Noah Schor scored
from the left post at 2m to increase the lead to 8-6. Will Clark
converts a penalty shot on the other end for New Trier to cut the
lead to 8-7. Adam Hudson and Noah Schor gave LWE an 8-6 lead over
New Trier. Will Clark converted a penalty shot to trim the lead to
8-7, but the Griffins' defense held the Trevians the rest of the way
to emerge with an 8-7 victory and a spot in Saturday's semifinal
round.
QUARTERFINAL #2
Lyons 11 St Ignatius 5
Q1: Victor Perez scored 3 goals
and Bobby Bolan scored once as the Lions have built a 4-2 lead over
St Ignatius at the end of the first period. Luke Hunneke and Luke
Siwik each scored once in the frame for the Wolfpack.
Q2: Perez scored early in the
period for LT, but Siwik scored midway through the period to trim
the lead to 5-3. Bolan added his second goal of the contest with one
minute left until halftime.
Q3: Hunneke trimmed the Lions
lead to 6-4 with an early goal, but Perez responded with three
straight goals to increase LT's lead to 9-4 by the end of the
period.
Q4: Moises Lopez opened the
fourth quarter scoring for SICP as the LT lead is cut to 9-5. Bolan
and Perez each added goals to boost the lead to 11-5 and the Lions
advance to Saturday's semifinal round to take on LWE.
QUARTERFINAL #3
Naperville Central 6 Stevenson 5
Q1: Sean Stablein and Mark Laboe
each scored once as the Redhawks took a 2-0 lead early in the
opening period. After a timeout, Drew Wangard and Dima Kobets scored
consecutive goals to even things up at 2-2. Cam Daugherty scored
with :33 left in the period to give the Redhawks a 3-2 edge.
Q2: Luke Klein-Collins converted
a penalty shot midway through the period and Central leads 4-2 at
halftime.
Q3: Alex Mitchell blocked a
penalty shot and made four key saves to keep the Central lead at 4-2
after three quarters.
Q4: Beno Maya drew an ejection
and scored quickly from 2m to cut the lead to 4-3. Stevenson draws
another ejection but cannot convert and Daugherty scores on the
other end to make the score 5-3. Kobets answers quickly for the
hosts after an ejection and the lead is back to one (5-4) with 3:02
left to play. Stevenson ties it up at 5-5 with 1:13 left! Mark
Holzer from 2m! Turnovers for both sides before Central calls
timeout with 0:25 left to setup a play. Luke Klein-Collins delivers
from 5m with :03 left and Central leads Stevenson 6-5. One final
play for the Patriots...lob shot is off the mark and the Redhawks
advance to the semifinal round.
QUARTERFINAL #4
Fenwick 17 Conant 13
Payton Comstock recorded 6 goals
and Nate Fisher scored 4 times as the Friars outlasted Conant 17-13
to advance to the sectional semifinals. Alex Figus and Dan Lynch
both added 2 scores while Dan Bajda, Ramses Flores and Wil Gurski
each tallied one score in the win. Alex Hirjoi registered 5 scores,
Noah Lawson scored 4 times and Spencer Urban notched 3 scores in the
loss for the Cougars.
