BOYS

Evanston Tournament

McHenry Sweeps the Field To Win Evanston Tournament

McHenry won the Evanston Tournament after winning all four of their games between Friday and Saturday. Dylan Clohessy and Tim Briscoe each totaled 9 goals, Lucas Matthys put in 8 goals, and Drew Schmitt added 7 scores in the five game competition, which saw the Warriors earn wins over Bremen, Evanston, GBS, GBN, and St Viator.

 

GBS finished in second place with a 4-1 mark, with their only loss coming to McHenry on Friday night. Igor Gryniv led the Titans with 32 goals and Tom Meyer made a total of 53 saves in the four games.


Fenwick Tournament

Fenwick Finishes Dan Lynch Classic With Perfect Record

Fenwick beat Naperville Central 11-6 in a de facto title game to claim their own tournament title over the weekend in Oak Park. The Friars beat St Patrick on Thursday, Curie on Friday, and H-F on Saturday morning to setup a showdown with last year's state title game challenger. Fenwick 11 Naperville Central 6

 

Fenwick 16 H-F 5

Matt Farmer scored 6 goals and Connor Brown added 4 scores in Fenwick's 16-5 win over H-F on Saturday morning. DJ Gallo added 3 scores and both Ted Herbstritt and Viken Huening put in 2 scores for the victorious Friars. Shay Banton tallied 2 goals for the Vikings.

 

Curie 9 St Patrick 5

Erik Hernandez, Eduardo Chavez, and Ramiro Almarez each scored 3 goals to lift Curie past St Patrick 9-5 in the final game of the preliminary round. John Gutierrez and Peter Blume each scored 2 goals in the losing effort for the Shamrocks.

 

Neuqua 14 Stevenson 3

AJ Quebbman and Kevin Patterson both recorded 3 scores and Alex Bollinger, David Lesniak, and Robert Vechiola each added 2 goals as Neuqua proved tough to stop for Stevenson in a 14-3 win. Daniel Budoloak, Remy Dalloul, and Zach Blumenfeld each tallied one goal apiece in the Patriots' loss.

 

St Patrick 11 LWE 6

Andrew Morun and John Gutierrez both scored 3 goals to help the Shamrocks claim their first win of the Fenwick Tournament, an 11-6 decision over LWE. Peter Blume also put in 2 goals for St Patrick. Ryan Stuart and Tim Zoellick each scored 2 times in the loss for the Griffins.

 

Brother Rice 15 Naperville North 10

Kyle Pikula recorded 7 goals and Mike Mulcrone added 5 scores to lead Brother Rice past Naperville North 15-10. Jack Henderson scored 3 times and Eric Curia and Jacob Thompson both scored 2 goals in the Huskies' loss.

 

Lyons 15 Oak Park 9

David Sekula totaled 6 goals and Michael Brown added 3 scores to help lift Lyons past Oak Park 15-9. LT outscored Oak Park 9-2 in the second half after trailing by a goal at halftime to earn their second win of the season over the Huskies on Saturday. Danny McGuinness and Ryan Schafer each tallied 2 scores in the win for the Lions, while Armando Lee led OPRF with 6 scores.

 

Naperville Central 10 St Ignatius 6

Jay Howenstine, Kristian Altuve, and Kyle Rickert each scored 3 times as Naperville Central defeated St Ignatius 10-6 to earn a matchup with Fenwick in their final game. Mark Alvarado and Paul Bouschlicher each scored 2 goals for the Wolfpack.

 

Lincoln-Way East 12 Neuqua 10

Tim Zoellick scored 6 goals and Ryan Stuart added 3 scores as Lincoln-Way East held off Neuqua 12-10 on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Patterson recorded 4 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Curie 14 Stevenson 3

Eduardo Chavez and Sam Lopez each tallied 6 goals to lead Curie to a 14-3 victory over Stevenson. Alex Shkiler notched 2 scores in the loss for the Patriots.

 

H-F 11 Brother Rice 11

The Vikings and Crusaders finished in an 11-11 tie in their final game of the Fenwick Tournament. Kyle Pikula scored the game-tying goal in the final minute, while both defenses came up with a stop after an H-F timeout to end the proceedings on level terms. Pikula led the Crusaders with 6 goals and Mike Mulcrone added 2 scores. Kevin Kuchta and Shay Banton both scored 4 goals in the tie for the Vikings.

 

Naperville North 8 Oak Park 8

The Huskies (both of them) finished the Fenwick Tournament in an 8-8 draw in an evenly-played from the opening whistle. Bradley Helder, Jacob Thompson, and Ryan Schickerling each scored 3 times for Naperville North, while Luke O'Connell scored 4 times and Troy Williams added 3 goals for OPRF.

 

Fenwick 11 Naperville Central 6

Complete play-by-play breakdown

The Friars put together a 5-1 run between the second and third periods to pull away from Naperville Central and earn an 11-6 win in the title game of their own tournament. Dennis Herron gave the Redhawks a brief 4-3 lead late in the opening period, but three straight Fenwick goals from Matt Farmer, Ted Herbstritt, and DJ Gallo gave the Friars a 6-4 halftime lead that they would never relinquish. Farmer and Connor Brown both scored 3 times in the win, while Herbstritt added 2 scores and Gallo, Matt Bresnahan, and Viken Huening each scored once for the Friars. Pat May tallied 3 goals, Herron notched 2 scores, and Kristian Altuve added a goal in the loss for the Redhawks.

 

St Ignatius 8 Lyons 4

In the final game of the night, St Ignatius used a balanced offensive attack to edge Lyons 8-4. In a low scoring first half, the Wolfpack broke a 1-1 tie with two goals in the second quarter and led the rest of the way behind 2 goals apiece from Mark Alvarado and Tom Maloney. Michael Brown recorded 2 scores for the Lions in their first loss of the season.


Hinsdale Central Tournament

Lockport 21 Lincoln-Way Central 7

Chris Bowman and Brian Cavanaugh both tallied 5 goals in Lockport's 21-7 victory over LWC. Petar Jackovich scored 3 times in the loss for the Knights.

 

STC North 23 R-B 6

Joey Chokran scored 5 goals and Eli Broxham made 9 saves in STC North's 23-6 win over R-B. Ken Miller and Kyle Castle each scored 3 times in the loss.

 

STC East 11 Hinsdale South 5

Shaun Seuscheck scored 4 goals to lead the Saints to an 11-5 victory over Hinsdale South. Ryan O'Toole scored all 5 goals for the Hornets in a losing cause.

 

Andrew 17 R-B 10

David Kiel, Jimmy Fischer, and Kyle Heneghan each scored 3 times as Andrew topped R-B 17-10 on Saturday.

 

Lockport 15 STC East 4

Chris Bowman and Brian Cavanaugh combined to score 10 goals in Lockport's 15-4 win over STC East.

 

Hinsdale Central 12 STC North 11

Nicko Krompilas and Strati Koulouris each scored 3 goals as Hinsdale Central edged STC North 12-11 to advance to the title game of their own tournament. Joey Chokran scored 4 times and Kyle Passini added 3 goals in the narrow loss for the North Stars.

 

Lincoln-Way Central 13 Hinsdale South 9

Petar Jackovich totaled 6 goals and Jacob Bernard added 4 scores as LWC topped Hinsdale South 13-9. Peter O'Toole scored 5 times in the loss for the Hornets.

 

Hinsdale South 14 R-B 6

Anthony Arito and Matt Dejewski combined to score 7 goals in Hinsdale South's 14-6 victory over R-B in the seventh place game of the HC Tournament. Kyle Miller scored 4 times in the loss for R-B.

 

Andrew 11 Lincoln-Way Central 5

John Fitzgerald scored 5 times to pave the way for Andrew to beat Lincoln-Way Central 11-5 in the fifth place game of the Hinsdale Central Tournament. Jacob Bernard tallied 3 goals in the loss for the Knights.

 

STC North 10 STC East 4

Joey Chokran scored 4 times and Kyle Passini added 2 goals as STC North beat their rivals STC East 10-4 in the third place game of the Hinsdale Central Tournament on Saturday. Eli Broxham totaled 8 saves and 3 steals in the win for the North Stars, who finished with a 3-1 record at the event.

 

Lockport 18 Hinsdale Central 12

Chris Bowman scored 8 goals and Brian Cavanaugh added 7 scores as Lockport beat Hinsdale Central 18-12 in the title game of the Red Devils' tournament on Saturday afternoon. Strati Koulouris notched 5 goals in the loss for HC.


GIRLS

Lincoln-Way Central 21 Maine South 7

Danijela Jackovich totaled 9 goals, 5 assists, and 10 steals (close to a triple-double) and goalie Gabrielle Dokianos made 18 saves as Lincoln-Way Central earned their first win of the season with a 21-7 victory over Maine South on Saturday.

 

Lincoln-Way West 9 Schaumburg 7

Lauren Majewski recorded 4 goals and Michelle Fairbairn tacked on 3 scores in Lincoln-Way West's 9-7 nonconference victory over Schaumburg. Becca Beeson stopped 17 shots in the victory for LWW.

 

Loyola 8 Olympia (FL) 6

The first game of Loyola's Spring Break excursion was a success, as the Ramblers beat Olympia HS 8-6 on Saturday in Florida. Brittany Wallace scored 4 goals and Kristina Alexander and Meredith O'Brien combined to make 10 saves to help lift Loyola to the win. Caitlin Sershon, Ellie Ansani, Kate Ansani, and Rachel Nieman each added one goal in the win for the Ramblers.


Bremen Tournament

Bradley 15 Stagg 10

Beth Zhe totaled 8 goals as Bradley defeated Stagg 15-10.

 

Morton 19 Argo 7

Cynthia Lopez and Samantha Nunez each tallied 7 goals for Morton in their 19-7 victory over Argo on Saturday morning.

 

Stagg 18 Argo 12

Liz Wayteck paved the way for Stagg to claim a seventh place ending to their weekend at the Bremen Tournament as she scored 8 times in the Chargers' 18-12 win over Argo.

 

Bradley 11 Morton 6

Beth Zhe scored 8 goals as Bradley topped Morton to claim a fifth place finish at the Bremen Tournament.

 

Bremen 15 Richards 9

Emma Martinus scored 6 goals to help lift the Red Jaguars to a 15-9 semifinal game win over Richards. Lisa Gorski totaled 7 goals in the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

Marian 14 Hinsdale South 5

Amy Martello registered 5 goals as Marian knocked off Hinsdale South 14-5 in the second semifinal of the Bremen Tournament.

 

Richards 10 Hinsdale South 6

Lisa Gorski poured in 7 goals to lead Richards to a 10-6 victory over Hinsdale South in the third place game of the Bremen Tourney on Saturday afternoon. Alecia Lewis led the Hornets with 2 goals in the losing effort.

 

Bremen 11 Marian 9

Emma Martinus and Sam Martinus each recorded 4 goals to help lead Bremen to an 11-9 win over Marian in the championship game of their own tournament over the weekend. Amy Martello tallied 5 goals in the loss for the Spartans.


Naperville Tournament

Naperville Central 5 Mundelein 4

Abbey Kerth and Emily Sejna each scored 2 goals and Julia Campbell made 2 key saves and a steal late in the final quarter to help Naperville Central hold off Mundelein 5-4 in the tournament opener on Saturday. Alexis Jones got Mundelein to within one goal midway through the fourth quarter, but the Redhawks' defense was able to hold the Mustangs scoreless the rest of the way to earn a key early season win. Jones scored 2 times to lead the Mustangs, while goalie Emily Tylka made several key stops in the second half to keep Mundelein within striking distance late in the game.

 

Naperville North 10 York 3

Megan Nerud scored 5 times and Audrey Chien added 2 scores to help lead Naperville North past York 10-3. Katie Nelson recorded 2 goals in the loss for the Dukes.

 

Naperville Central 11 Oak Park 1

Abbey Kerth scored 3 goals and Allison Susan, Emily Sejna, and Lizzy Giuliani each added 2 scores to help the hosts earn an 11-1 victory over Oak Park. Katie Hunt scored the lone goal for the Huskies.

 

H-F 10 Naperville North 3

Hannah Ongman and Rebecca Mathews both tallied 4 goals in H-F's 10-3 victory over Naperville North on Saturday. Audrey Chien put in 2 scores in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Mundelein 7 Oak Park 3

Alexis Jones scored 4 times and Sarah Honda added 2 scores to lead Mundelein past Oak Park 7-3. Emily Tylka made 11 saves in the win for the Mustangs. Alison Coogan scored 2 goals and Zoe Erickson stopped 10 shots in the loss for the Huskies.

 

H-F 12 York 1

Rebecca Mathews tallied 5 goals and Hannah Ongman and Michelle Mayer both added 3 scores as the Vikings cruised to a 12-1 win over York. Sophie Schloen made 10 saves and allowed only one goal in the victory for H-F. Alexa Saco scored the only goal for York in the loss.

 

Oak Park 9 York 2

The Huskies grabbed a fifth place finish at the NC Tournament as Katie Hunt scored 4 times in a 9-2 win over York.

 

Mundelein 10 Naperville North 3

Alexis Jones poured in 4 goals and Karrie Kozokar added 3 scores as Mundelein knocked off Naperville North 10-3 in the third place game at the NC Tournament. Megan Nerud led the Huskies with 2 goals in the losing cause.

 

Naperville Central 9 H-F 5

Abbey Kerth scored 4 goals, Claire Wirtz added 3 scores, and Julia Campbell stopped 13 shots as Naperville Central won their own tournament with a 9-5 title game win over H-F. Rebecca Mathews scored 3 times in the loss for the Vikings.


STC North Tournament

Hoffman 11 STC North 9

Rachael Gallo scored 5 goals and both Dorota Knaga and Sharon Sturnfield added 2 scores as Hoffman won their tournament opener over the hosts 11-9 on Saturday morning.

 

Conant 10 Buffalo Grove 6

Andie Cobb and Katie Varga each scored 2 times as Conant defeated Buffalo Grove 10-6 at the STC North Tournament.

 

Andrew 9 STC North 2

Abby Wrobel and Leah McCarthy both totaled 3 goals in Andrew's 9-2 win over the hosts on Saturday morning.

 

Conant 9 Lake Forest 8

Katie Varga scored 3 goals and Jessica Southern and Kristi Burke both chipped in with 2 goals each as Conant held off Lake Forest 9-8 on Saturday. The Cougars trailed 5-1 in the first half, but came roaring back with a 8-3 run to earn the victory and advance to the tournament title game. Emily Nowlin led the Scouts with 6 goals in the losing effort.

 

Andrew 7 Hoffman 4

Abby Wrobel and Kelly Baumgartner each scored 2 goals and the T-Bolts defense put the clamps down on Hoffman in the second half to earn a hard-fought 7-4 victory over the Hawks. Rachael Gallo and Sharon Sturnfield scored 2 goals apiece for the Hawks.

 

Lake Forest 6 Buffalo Grove 4

Emily Nowlin totaled 3 goals to help lift Lake Forest past Buffalo Grove 6-4 on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Scouts into the third place game of the tournament.

 

Lake Forest 12 Hoffman 7

Emily Nowlin poured in 6 goals as Lake Forest defeated Hoffman 12-7 in the third place game of the STC North Tournament. The Scouts finished the event with a 2-1 record. Rachael Gallo led the Hawks with 5 goals and 6 assists in the losing effort.

 

Andrew 14 Conant 5

Leah McCarthy scored 5 goals to help lead Andrew to a 14-5 win over Conant in the title game of the STC North Tournament. Allie Fisher, Megan Hoffer, and Rachel Fus each added 2 scores in the win for the T-Bolts.
