GAME PREVIEWS (Tuesday, May 7)

FENWICK SECTIONAL

5:45pm R-B vs Westinghouse

Riverside-Brookfield and Westinghouse both seek their sixth win of the 2013 season when they meet in the play-in game of the Fenwick Sectional on Tuesday.

FREMD SECTIONAL

4:30pm St Viator vs Meadows

The Lions (11-13) broke the 10-win barrier this season, so a play-in game win over the Mustangs (1-17) would be a great way to start a potential deep postseason run. Can Meadows pull off the opening round upset on the road in Arlington Heights?

5:45pm Barrington vs Elk Grove

The Broncos earned a 15-5 victory over the Grenadiers last Saturday, so they'll be looking for more of the same when the two teams meet on Tuesday in Barrington. The winner moves on to face top-seeded Conant in Thursday's quarterfinals.

GBN SECTIONAL

4:30pm GBN vs Maine West

The Spartans look to build off last weekend's fourth-place finish at the CSL Tournament when they face fellow conference member Maine West on Tuesday. The Warriors also earned a CSL tourney win over Highland Park last weekend, so they would like nothing more than to knock off a familiar opponent in order to advance to face New Trier in the quarterfinal round.

4:30pm Maine East vs Highland Park

The Blue Demons enter the postseason with confidence after a conference tournament win over Niles West, a near upset of Evanston in the CSL Tournament's fifth-place game, and a late-season win over Highland Park. The Giants, meanwhile, seek their third win of the season as they look to upset a fellow conference member for a chance to take on Loyola in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

LWN SECTIONAL

4:30pm LWC vs LWW

Kurt Butterfield and the Warriors look to pull off an opening-round upset when they do battle with a vastly improved Lincoln-Way Central team on Tuesday night. The first meeting between the two squads was a high-scoring 19-13 shootout, so expect more offense when both teams lay their respective seasons on the line for a chance to face H-F in the sectional quarterfinals.

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

4:30pm McHenry vs Vernon Hills

McHenry defeated Vernon Hills last weekend at the Cougars' own tournament, so the Warriors are hopeful that another similar performance can get them into the sectional quarterfinal round for a rematch of last year's sectional final game with Stevenson. The Cougars, meanwhile, are seeking their third win of the 2013 campaign when they go on the road to face a tough Warriors' defense.

5:45pm Wheeling vs Deerfield

The Wildcats rebuilding process could get a nice boost with an opening-round playoff win after securing 8 wins in the regular season; the Warriors will need a solid performance if they hope to grab their second win of the season on Tuesday against Wheeling. The winner advances to play Lake Forest on Thursday in the sectional quarterfinals.

NEUQUA SECTIONAL

4:30pm STC East vs Metea Valley

You have to look all the way back to March 6 when the Saints beat Metea Valley 19-8 for an indication of how things will go when the two teams when in St Charles on Tuesday. Since then, East has struggled a bit, so they hope to get things back on track with a postseason win that get them to the quarterfinal round to face Naperville Central. Meanwhile, the Mustangs have a handful of quality wins in 2013, so it would be no surprise to see them advance past the play-in round on Tuesday night.

5:45pm STC North vs Hinsdale South

The North Stars have to be one of the best seven seeds in state tournament history after posting 16 wins in 2013. Chris Cloy's well-balanced side shouldn't overlook the Hornets, as the offensive tandem of Matt Dejewski and Ryan O'Toole are more than capable of getting their side to Thursday's quarterfinal round if things aren't clicking for North. In fact, Hinsdale South beat STC North 11-10 back in Week 3, making this the "match of the day" of the 12 games taking place on Tuesday night.

STAGG SECTIONAL

5:45pm Shepard vs Gage Park

Shepard and Gage Park both chase after their second win of the season, respectively, when the teams do battle on Tuesday night in the play-in game of the Stagg Sectional. The winner takes on Sandburg in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.

UIC SECTIONAL

5:45pm Payton-Jones vs Ogden

Joey Walner, Mason Randle, and company will look to continue Payton-Jones' successful 2013 campaign with an opening-round win over fellow CPS school Ogden on Tuesday night.

Central will take on top-seeded H-F in Thursday's quarterfinal round. Kurt Butterfield totaled 6 goals to surpass the 100-goal mark in 2013 as the Warriors' upset bid came up short.

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

McHenry 12 Vernon Hills 6

Garrett Floden recorded 6 goals, including 4 in the opening half, to lead McHenry to a 12-6 victory over Vernon Hills in the first play-in game of the Mundelein Sectional on Tuesday. The Warriors move on to play Stevenson in a rematch of last year's sectional final game on Thursday.

STC North 9 Hinsdale South 2

Ryan Hamilton tallied 3 scores and Justin Simmonds added 2 goals to lead STC North past Hinsdale South 9-2 on Tuesday night. John Pretet, Kyle Gannon, Nick Kowaleski, and Ross Davis each added a goal in the win for the North Stars, who will take on Naperville North in Thursday's quarterfinals.

The Astros earned a forfeit win over Gage Park, as they move to the quarterfinals to take on top-seeded Sandburg on Thursday.

Top-seeded St Ignatius awaits Payton-Jones after the Grizzlies earned their tenth win of the season after beating fellow CPS foe Ogden 21-6 in the preliminary round of the UIC Sectional on Tuesday.
