Sandburg Sectional Preview -
GIRLS
Mother McAuley comes in as
the clear favorite and the #1 seed at the Sandburg Sectional, but they will
face a number of challenges on their potential journey back to the state
tournament. The Mighty Macs will face either #4 seed Lyons Township, a team
that has improved drastically over the course of the season, or #5 seed
Richards, who has a wide array of young talent that can be a dangerous team
to face in a elimination-game situation. On the flipside of the bracket, #2
seed Sandburg took McAuley to overtime in their latest meeting, and the
Eagles also have the benefit of playing at home. They face #7 seed Morgan
Park in
the opening round, with the winner to take on either #3 seed Stagg or #6
seed Bremen.
KEYS
- Wood: Mighty Mac's offensive and defensive playmaker can dominate at times
- Cortez, Gonzalez, Perez, etc: McAuley's lineup is loaded with scorers and talent
- Cody/Mulhall/Ciurej: Sandburg's
top three starters can be a handful
- Kono/Zygas/Cavoto: Lions will have a chance with these three on their game
- Kennedy: Top offensive weapon for the Chargers makes them a contender
- Nelson/Drwal/Rampick: Richards is a major upset candidate with this trio
