Sectional Champ

MUNDELEIN

Vernon Hills Sectional Preview - BOYS
Mundelein won their first sectional title en route to a fourth place finish at state in 2005, and they will be looking for more of the same against rival Stevenson and the rest of the Vernon Hills Sectional bracket. The #1 seed Mustangs face #8 seed Deerfield in the first round, while #2 seed Stevenson will take on host and #7 seed Highland Park in the opening round. If the Mustangs advance, they will play the winner of the game between #4 Lake Forest and #5 seed Vernon Hills, while the Stevenson-Vernon Hills winner takes on the team advancing out of the #3 Libertyville-#6 McHenry matchup.

KEYS

- Peterson/Schawel: Strong pair provide the bulk of the offense for Mundelein

- MHS role players: Larsen, Schott, Selle, Lukacs make Mustangs tough to defend

- Simonoff: Patriots' goalie has the potential to send Stevenson to state

- Alland: Tough, versatile leader gives Stevenson a lethal scoring threat
- Leboza/Lejeune: Top two Wildcat starters make Libertyville a darkhorse

- Basadien: Cougars' best offensive weapon hopes to give Lake Forest fits

- Weinberg: Giants will need their senior leader to have a big game in round one
