Jake Roberts scored on LWN's first chance of the second quarter to give the Phoenix a 3-2 lead, but Shay Banton evened the game at 3-3 and Kevin Kuchta put the Vikings back in front 4-3 late in the first half. LWN grabs a goal before the break to send the game to halftime tied at 4-4.

In the second half, Banton and Nick Roberts traded goals as the score remained tied, then Jake Bodnar made a big stop on a LWN breakaway chance. On the other end, Diorio added his second goal of the game to put the Vikings ahead 6-5, but Kyler VanSwol and Nick Roberts scored consecutive goals to put the Phoenix back in front 7-6. Kuchta tallied his second goal late in the period to get the Vikings even, then Banton scored with one second left in the quarter to put H-F ahead 8-7 with seven minutes remaining.

Luke Dobben gave the Vikings a two-goal cushion with the first goal of the final period, but VanSwol drew an ejection, scored his second goal of the contest, then added another score on the next possession for the Phoenix to bring the game to a 9-9 tie midway through the last quarter.

In the third period, Hultquist added his second goal to put the Griffins' in front 5-2. The Griffins' defense held the Knights without a goal in the quarter, as they remained in front by three goals as the teams entered the final period. Steve Walczak increased the LWE lead to 6-2 with his first goal, but Petar Jackovich tried to keep the Knights within striking distance with his first goal of the contest. It was all for naught, however, as Hultquist recorded his third goal of the fixture and the Griffins' defense did the rest as LWE advanced to the sectional finals with a 7-3 win over LWC.

LWC Sectional

Homewood-Flossmoor 5 Lincoln-Way East 4

In a hardcore defensive battle, the Griffins and Vikings ended the first period with no score. Julie Warren opened the scoring for LWE midway through the second period, and the Griffins continued to shutout H-F after fourteen minutes of play. Rebecca Mathews tied the score for the Vikings early in the third period, then she connected on a penalty shot to give H-F their first lead at 2-1. Before the quarter ended, Mary Reilly of LWE evened the score at 2-2 with a goal, and the teams headed into the final period of regulation with the game hanging in the balance.

Mathews put the Vikings ahead once again, scoring on a breakaway goal early in the final period, and H-F clinged to a 3-2 lead for much of the fourth quarter. But Alyssa Toland notched her first goal in the final minute of regulation and the teams were tied again at 3-3 with 0:40 left to play. After a stop, the Griffins drew an ejection and Warren scored her second goal with 0:16 left on the clock and LWE held a 4-3 lead with one possession left in the game.

Hannah Ongman tied the game at 4-4 on what seemed like the Vikings' last possession of regulation. But in the final seconds, East attempted a game-winning shot that sailed over the goal, and the Vikings' called a timeout to setup a final play. H-F goalie Sophie Schloen then found Ongman open at half tank after play resumed, and her last second shot at the buzzer went into the corner of the net to send Homewood-Flossmoor to the sectional finals with a 5-4 win.

Lincoln-Way Central 8 Bremen 5

LWC outscored Bremen 6-1 in the second half after a nervous start to earn an 8-5 win and advance to the sectional finals against Homewood-Flossmoor on Saturday. But Jackovich scored 2 straight goals for the Knights to get the score to 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter,  Miller scored her first goal after an ejection and the Bremen defense did not allow a goal to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.

Jackovich scored her third goal to open the second half, getting the Knights to within a goal. Markie Kulovitz followed that effort with a goal off a pass from goaltender Kelsey Martiniak (15 saves), and the two teams were knotted up at 4-4 early in the third period. Miller helped Bremen bounce back with a goal midway through the period as they reclaimed a 5-4 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Jackovich netted her fourth goal of the contest to tie the score at 5-5 with five minutes remaining. Then, midway through the period, Jess Graf notched her first goal of the game and gave the Knights their first lead. Jamie Graf continued the LWC surge with a goal with under three minutes to play, and the Knights had built  a 7-5 lead over Bremen. Jamie Graf scored her second straight goal of the fourth quarter to give LWC an 8-5 lead as their 4-0 run put them in the driver's seat with two minutes remaining. The Knights were able to shutdown Bremen's offensive attack in the final minutes as they went on to win 8-5 with a dominant second half performance.

The Warriors held off a late surge by Naperville North to earn a 9-7 win over the Huskies to advance to the sectional finals at Neuqua Valley. Naperville North trailed 8-3 entering the final quarter, but the Huskies 4-1 run was not enough to overcome the Warriors' lead.

St Ignatius 13 Lane 7

Young 7 Latin 5

The low-scoring affair between Young and Latin also went back and forth and the Dolphins eventually pulled away from the Romans to secure a 7-5 win in the second semifinal at the UIC Sectional. Young started out strong, building a 2-0 lead, but Latin ran off four straight goals to claim a 4-2 lead by the middle of the second quarter. The Dolphins had a quick response, as Gabi Cabrera, Yadi Casimiro, and Susana Zizumbo each tallied goals during a 3-0 run that put Young on top 5-4 at halftime. The Dolphins' defense was the key in the second half, as they held Latin without a goal until the final minute of the fourth period, in which Young had already bulit a 7-4 lead.
