Week 8 Tournament Previews:

 

 

FRIDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Hoffman 12 Wheeling 8

Mike Christen recorded 4 goals and Logan Gizel made 9 saves as Hoffman defeated Wheeling 12-8 on Friday night. Adam Pasnicki, Mike Desider, and Nick Jessee each scored 2 times in the win for the Hawks. Andy Eiter registered 3 scores in the losing effort for the Wildcats.

 

Schaumburg 10 York 2

Randy Carr scored 5 times and Mike Gergen added 3 scores in Schaumburg's 10-2 victory over York on Friday.

 

Conant Tournament

The hosts and Neuqua Valley both went 2-0 on Friday to move to the championship bracket of the Conant Tournament on Saturday. Conant started the proceedings with a 16-5 upset win over #20 St Viator and later beat Maine West 13-2, while Neuqua beat both Lane and Libertyville to move to the next round. The two teams will be joined by either Buffalo Grove, Lincoln-Way North, or Northside as the three teams begin group play on Saturday morning.

 

Libertyville beat Lane and St Viator topped Maine West in other action on Friday, so the two teams will play for fourth place along with the second place finisher from tomorrow morning's group play.

 

Stevenson Tournament

#1 Fenwick and #3 Naperville Central both won a pair of games on Friday to advance to the championship round of the Stevenson Tournament on Saturday. The Friars defeated #2 Lyons 8-6 in their first game and closed the evening with a 16-7 win over #19 New Trier. Meanwhile, the Redhawks earned wins over #13 Oak Park and #17 Mundelein to setup a state championship rematch with Fenwick on Saturday at 2:40pm. The two teams will be joined by the winner of tomorrow morning's game between #5 Brother Rice and #7 Palatine. Both teams beat the hosts in their respective tournament openers on Friday.


GIRLS

Barrington 8 Buffalo Grove 7

Catherine Byron and Kate Luedtke both registered 3 scores and Brooke Fanslow stopped 11 shots in Barrington's 8-7 victory over Buffalo Grove. Chloe Padula also scored 2 times in the Fillies' win. Angela Rodriguez scored 3 goals and Kristina Pinakidis scored 2 goals in the loss for BG.

 

Bremen 13 Naperville North 8

Hannah Schultz scored 7 goals to help lead Bremen to a 13-8 victory over Naperville North. Audrey Chien put in 4 scores in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Hoffman 13 Hinsdale South 10

Rachael Gallo totaled 5 goals and Vishwa Shaw notched 4 scores in Hoffman's 13-10 win over Hinsdale South. Stephanie Castro added 2 goals in the victory for the Hawks.

 

Morgan Park 17 Lincoln Park 7

Jelena Bates recorded 6 goals and Gracie Wenner tallied 5 scores as Morgan Park downed Lincoln Park 17-7.

 

Schaumburg 8 Northside 7

Corinne Trujillo scored 3 times and Ashley Johnson added 2 scores as Schaumburg held off Northside 8-7 on Friday afternoon. Kelly Buchanan recorded 3 scores, Meghan Quigley put in 2 goals, and Cecile Franke made 14 saves in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Rockford Tournament

Fenwick earned a 6-3 opening round win over Jenison on Friday night to move one step closer to the championship bracket of the Rockford Tournament in Michigan. The Friars play a morning game against East Grand Rapids, who also beat Jenison 7-5 in the preliminary round. A win in their second game would likely see them take on #1 Okemos and #4 Rockford for a chance to win the event.

 

FRIDAY'S GAME PREVIEWS

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Fenwick vs Lyons (6:10pm) - The top two teams in the state meet in the opening round of the Stevenson Tournament on Friday.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Naperville Central vs Mundelein (7:50pm) - The Redhawks and Mustangs meet in the rubber match of their season series on Friday night after the teams split the first two meetings over the last two weekends.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Fenwick vs Jenison (8:40pm) - The top-ranked Friars begin their quest for a Michigan tournament title when they take on #10 Jenison in the opening round of the Rockford Tournament on Friday night.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Naperville North at Bremen (6:00pm) - #18 Naperville North looks to continue their late season momentum when they travel to #14 Bremen for a nonconference matchup on Friday evening.
