FRIDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Homewood-Flossmoor 20 Lincoln-Way Central 8

Caleb Peterson scored 6 times and Shay Banton added 5 goals as H-F earned a 20-8 win over LWC to wrap up the SWSC regular season for both teams. Kevin Kuchta scored 4 times, Luke Dobben put in 3 goals, and Jacob Bodnar made 9 saves in the Vikings' win. Jacob Bernard scored 3 goals and Matt Duda added 2 scores in the loss for the Knights.

 

Stagg 21 Bradley 6

Zach Golob put in 6 goals and seven other Chargers recorded goals as Stagg beat Bradley 21-6 to end the SWSC Red with an 11-2 record en route to a division title in 2011.

 

CSL Tournament

New Trier 19 Niles West 6

John Bernard, Jordan Palmer, Konrad Von Moltke, and Sam Skinner all scored 4 times in New Trier's 19-6 victory over Niles West in the CSL Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.

 

Glenbrook South 17 Maine East 6

Igor Gryniv tallied 9 goals, Will Porter totaled 5 scores, and Tom Meyer made 14 saves as GBS defeated Maine East 17-6.

 

MCAC Tournament

Top Seeds Advance in Catholic League Playoffs

DeLaSalle earned a 12-5 victory over Mt Carmel in the play-in game of the Catholic League playoffs on Friday afternoon, moving to the quarterfinal round at Fenwick. Their survival was short-lived, as top-seeded Fenwick beat DLS 15-3 two games later to advance to the semifinal round.

 

St Ignatius earned a 19-9 win over St Viator to advance to Saturday's semifinals, where they will take on Fenwick. Meanwhile, Brother Rice and Loyola both earned first round wins, so they will play in the second semifinal on Saturday. Game recaps below:

 

St Ignatius 19 St Viator 9

Kevin Barth and Mark Alvarado both scored 6 goals to lead St Ignatius to a 19-9 win over St Viator. Brayden Amendola added 5 goals in the win for the Wolfpack. Gregg O'Connor recorded 4 scores in the loss for the Lions.

 

Fenwick 15 DeLaSalle 3

Viken Huening scored 4 goals to help lift Fenwick to a 15-3 victory over DeLaSalle.

 

Brother Rice 17 St Rita 7

Kyle Pikula registered 8 goals and Mike Mulcrone scored 5 times as Brother Rice defeated St Rita 17-7 on Friday.

 

Loyola 11 St Patrick 5

Charlie Dowdle tallied 5 scores and Tim Netzel scored 3 times as Loyola pulled away from St Patrick in the second half to earn an 11-5 win over the Shamrocks on Friday night. William LeCompte added 2 scores in the win for the Ramblers. Peter Blume notched 2 scores in the losing effort for Pats.


GIRLS

Andrew 6 Lincoln-Way North 4

The T-Bolts used a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter to wrap up their SWSC Red title-winning season with a 6-4 victory over Lincoln-Way North on Friday. Abigail Wrobel, Allie Fisher, Kelly Baumgartner, Leah McCarthy, Megan Hofer, and Rachel Fus each scored once in the win for Andrew. Sam Klosak totaled 2 scores in the loss for the Phoenix.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor 16 Lincoln-Way Central 7

Rebecca Mathews recorded 7 goals to lead H-F to a 16-7 victory over LWC. Jamie Graf totaled 3 scores in the loss for the Knights.

 

Lincoln-Way East 12 Lockport 4

Mary Reilly and Zoe McCabe each registered 4 scores in LWE's 12-4 victory over Lockport.

 

FRIDAY'S GAME PREVIEWS        

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Loyola vs St Patrick (8:30pm) - The Ramblers eked out a 9-8 win over the Shamrocks back in March, so expect another close game when the two teams meet on Friday night in the opening round of the Catholic League tournament.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

St Ignatius vs St Viator (5:30pm) - The sixth-ranked Wolfpack will look to avoid a first round upset in the MCAC Tournament when they take on #23 St Viator on Friday.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Homewood-Flossmoor at Lincoln-Way Central (5:00pm) - The Vikings will have to get past Lincoln-Way Central in New Lenox in order to finish the 2011 season with a perfect conference mark.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Lincoln-Way North at Andrew (5:00pm) - The T-Bolts look to put the icing on the cake in their SWSC Red title-winning season when they host Lincoln-Way North in the last game of the regular season for both teams.
