THURSDAY'S SECTIONAL QUARTERFINAL RECAPS

BOYS

Barrington Sectional

Schaumburg 17 Prospect 5

Mike Gergen scored 7 times, Randy Carr added 3 scores, and Alex Koehl put in 2 goals as Schaumburg flexed their muscles in a 17-5 quarterfinal round win over Prospect on Thursday. Matt Forssander and Will Schiavone both scored 2 goals in the loss for the Knights.

 

Fremd 12 Hoffman 6

Andre Degla recorded 4 goals and Phil Schroeder totaled 3 scores as the fourth-seeded Vikings outscored the Hawks 7-1 in the second half to pull away and earn a 12-6 victory on Thursday. Adam Pasnicki scored 2 goals and Logan Gizel made 18 saves and blocked three penalty shots in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Fenwick Sectional

Fenwick 23 Payton 1

Ted Herbstritt scored 2 goals and was one of twenty-one Fenwick players to tally goals in a 23-1 win over Payton in the first round of the Fenwick Sectional.

 

York 8 Morton 7

Tyler Stone totaled 7 goals as York held off Morton 8-7 in a WSC clash at the Fenwick Sectional on Thursday. Peter Holanda scored 2 times to lead the Mustangs in the losing effort.

 

Oak Park 15 Foreman 3

Nathan Pimentel registered 3 scores and both Clayton Witt and Mark Hallman each added 2 scores as Oak Park defeated Foreman 15-3 on Thursday night. John Adams totaled 2 scores in the loss for the Hornets.

 

St Patrick 13 R-B 4

John Gutierrez and Peter Blume both scored 4 goals and Jack Smollen added 2 scores as St Patrick downed R-B 13-4. Kyle Miller scored 3 times in the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

GBN Sectional

New Trier 15 Niles West 4

Top-seeded New Trier outscored the Niles West 10-2 in the second half to earn a 15-4 quarterfinal win over the Wolves. David Rynerson and Konrad Von Moltke each scored 3 times to lead the Trevians. Elliot Kerbel scored 2 times and Max Romanelli made 17 saves in the loss for Niles.

 

Evanston 11 Maine East 10

Kameron Simmons-Gil scored 5 goals as Evanston held off a late Maine East rally to advance to the next round with an 11-10 win over Maine East. Matt Wiegel scored 3 times in the loss for the Blue Demons.

 

GBS 21 GBN 7

Igor Gryniv scored 7 goals and Kevin Roenitz tallied 4 scores as GBS topped rivals GBN 21-7 in the quarterfinal round of the GBN Sectional. Tom Meyer made 16 saves in the win for the Titans. Brandon Schilling recorded 2 goals in the season-ending loss for the Spartans.

 

Loyola 15 Maine South 3

Brendan Hulseman and Charlie Dowdle each scored 3 goals, Tim Netzel scored 2 times, and goalie Robbie O'Connor blocked 10 shots and notched a goal in Loyola's 15-3 win over Maine South.

 

LWN Sectional

H-F 21 Lincoln-Way North 11

Caleb Peterson recorded 7 goals, Luke Dobben totaled 4 goals and 5 assists, and Henry Weeks and Shay Banton both scored 3 times as H-F outlasted LWN 21-11. Jake Bodnar also made 21 saves in the win for the Vikings. Trevor Kubik led the Phoenix with 3 scores in the losing effort.

 

Lincoln-Way East 7 Bradley 5

Tom Vander Velde made 17 saves and limited Bradley to just five goals to help Lincoln-Way East emerge from the quarterfinal round with a 7-5 win on Thursday. Ryan Stuart also scored 4 goals  to help the Griffins move on to the semifinal round. Brad Richert and Tyler Villareal each scored 2 times as the Boilers nearly pulled off the upset against the third-seeded Griffins.

 

Sandburg 16 Lincoln-Way Central 6

Cody Corridino recorded 7 goals to lead Sandburg to a 16-6 win over Lincoln-Way Central. Tony Rogina also made 9 saves in the win for the Eagles.

 

Lockport 10 Andrew 9

David Hir scored 9 goals and connected on the game-winner with ten seconds remaining in regulation as Lockport earned a come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Andrew on Thursday. The Porters trailed 9-7 early in the final period, but put together a 3-0 run to stun the T-Bolts. Hir scored all three goals in the Lockport rally, which started with less than two minutes left to play. Charles Boutros, John Fitzgerald, and Shane Garren each scored 3 times in the loss.

 

Lyons Sectional

Stagg 21 St Rita 13

Drew Stoffel and Pat McHale each scored 4 goals and Brandon Hadhazy and Zach Golob both tallied 3 scores as Stagg defeated St Rita 21-13 on Thursday.

 

Neuqua Sectional

Naperville Central 20 Metea Valley 2

Kristian Altuve and Kyle Rickert both scored 3 goals to help lift Naperville Central to a 20-2 win over Metea Valley. Christian Moreco and Zach McClernon each scored once in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Hinsdale Central 12 Waubonsie Valley 10

David Graveline recorded 4 goals and Nick Korompilas and Strati Koulouris scored 3 goals each as Hinsdale Central knocked off Waubonsie Valley 12-10. John Gibson also made 22 saves in the victory for the Red Devils. Tyler Hunt scored 6 times and Mike McWhirter added 3 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Neuqua Valley 24 St Charles East 6

Kevin Patterson scored 5 goals and AJ Quebbeman, Austin Torrey, and David Lesniak each added 4 scores as Neuqua earned a 24-6 win over STC East. Shaun Suescheck tallied 3 goals in the loss for the Saints.

 

Naperville North 17 St Charles North 11

Aaron Katz totaled 6 goals to lead Naperville North past STC North 17-11 on Thursday. Joey Chokran and Justin Jacobson each put in 5 goals in the loss for the North Stars.

 

UIC Sectional

St Ignatius 18 Lane 7

Bradley Mueller and Brayden Amendola both scored 4 times to help lead St Ignatius past Lane 18-7. Ricardo Quezada and Samuel Gonzalez each tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Indians.

 

Von Steuben 15 Juarez 8

Alvaro Ajredini tallied 7 goals to lead Von Steuben to a 15-8 victory over fellow CPS team Juarez in Thursday's second quarterfinal game at UIC. Josue Hernandez scored 5 times in the loss for the Eagles.

 

Young 12 Northside 6

David Mora recorded 4 goals to lead Young to a 12-6 victory over Northside on Thursday. Conner Gillespie registered 2 scores in the loss to lead the Mustangs.

 

Vernon Hills Sectional

Palatine 21 Lake Forest 4

Kamil Mulawa scored 7 goals, Justin Behrens scored 5 times, and John Giuliano put in 4 scores as Palatine cruised to a 21-4 win over Lake Forest. Dan Sommerfeld also made 13 saves and allowed just 2 goals in the Pirates' victory.

 

Libertyville 8 Wheeling 7 (5 OT)

Libertyville and Wheeling went to halftime tied at 5-5, with Ian Kinsella (Libertyville) and Daniel Kubeck (Wheeling) each putting in 3 goals in the first half. Kinsella broke the deadlock in the third period to put Libertyville ahead 6-5, but Wheeling put together a 2-0 run to take a late one-goal lead. Libertyville's Tommy Keefe (3 goals) scored a late goal to send the game into overtime, where neither team was able to score in the first two extra sessions. Both teams were unable to score in the next two overtime periods, with the latest one ending with a disallowed goal by Wheeling goalie Shane McDade (23 saves). Finally, Libertyville won with a goal at the 1:27 mark of the fifth overtime period, as Ian Kinsella connected on the game-winner, as the senior's fifth goal of the game proved to be the biggest score of the season thus far for the Wildcats.

 

McHenry 18 Buffalo Grove 4

The Warriors used a balanced offensive attack to pull away from Buffalo Grove and advance to the semifinals with an 18-4 win. Drew Schmitt and Andrew Hertel each scored 4 times to lead the Warriors, while Lucas Matthys and Phil Lesniak each added 3 scores in the victory. Ian Rodriguez led the Bison with 3 goals.

 

Mundelein 16 Stevenson 5

Will Davidson scored 3 goals in the first half and finished with 4 scores to help Mundelein beat rivals Stevenson 16-5 on Thursday night. Connor Black and Frank Lukacs each added 3 goals in the win for the Mustangs. Alex Shkiler led the Patriots with 3 goals in the losing effort.
